Star-studded bash busted after neighbours complain of loud music

Model Binal Trivedi's birthday party last night did not end quite as she would have liked.

The Cuffe Parade police busted the party at a restaurant, Taxi, in Colaba after neighbours complained of loud music.

The party, which started at 10 pm, was stopped at 1.15 am, when the cops arrived.

A few nights ago, cops had similarly stopped actor Ashish Chawdhary's late-night bash.

Actors John Abraham, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu and models Milind Soman, Pia Trivedi, Fleur Xavier, Nethra Raghuraman and Marc Robinson were also present at the party.

Even though the stars promised the cops they would play soft music, they were not granted permission to continue.

Milind Soman even tried to play the Marathi card, saying, "Hum bhi Marathi, aap bhi Marathi. Phir aise kyun kar rahe ho?" But that too did not work.

One of the cops said, "This place belongs to the Income Tax department. They should not have rented it out to the hotel." He added that mostly retired and aged people stay in the area. The restaurant is located in a entirely residential area. There are homes above the restaurant.

The cops took the manager Sanjay Gauri Singh to the police station and charged a deposit of Rs 5,000 from him.

Shake your body

that's exactly what all the hot bods in town seemed to be doing at the party hosted by choreographer Alison Kanuga and model Binal Trivedi. Seagram's Fling Vodka hosted a party, last night, at the city's hottest venue — Taxi. The who's who of the city were seen grooving away to the music of French DJ M MAT, at this glitzy event.

Oscars dress rehearsal

The 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Centre on Sunday. The awards allow actors to vote for their peers.

There's no foreign press, no random people's choices, no odd panel of unknown judges. This award ceremony, in Hollywood's tinsel town is traditionally considered the most accurate forecast of who will go home with an Oscar.

The SAGs are also the most accurate forecast of celebrity style trends. Everyone wings it at the People's Choice Awards, gets a bit more clued in for the Golden Globes, and then finally gets their act together for the SAGs, which are a literal dress rehearsal for the Oscars.

So here's what to expect at the Academy Awards this year...

Trend no 1: The colour purple

The women of Wisteria Lane — (from left, above) Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Alfre Woodard — reigned in this royal hue (although Nicolette Sheridan didn't get the memo). Serious trend-setting props have to be given to Brokeback Mountain's Michelle Williams, who wore a gorgeous purple gown to the Globes

Ziyi Zhang also looked lovely in lavender, another variation of the colour purple Nicollette kept herself company with Michael Bolton — yes, they really are a couple again The men too opted for the magic colour, purple. Tony Parker — sadly, when he stood next to Eva in her matching dress, they looked like they were going to the prom

It was the colour of choice for Jaime Pressly and Michelle Williams (above, right)
Trend no 3: The ponytail
The tied-up hair look really suited Charlize Theron (left), Sandra Oh and Dakota Fanning (right)

Clooney couldn't sleep over Oscar nods

George Clooney
Triple-Oscar nominated George Clooney set his alarm for 5 am on Tuesday morning, so he could watch the Academy Award nominations unveiled live on TV.

Clooney is up for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Good Night, and Good Luck, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Syriana at the March 5 ceremony.

He says, "I'd love to say that I was sound asleep and didn't notice them, but I woke up for them. Nobody does (admit it), but the truth is, I seriously doubt anyone actually slept through it.

"I'm happy because you can put on the DVD box that Good Night is nominated for six Academy Awards, and that's a pretty big thing for a seven-and-a-half-million-dollar, black-and-white film. It will help get it out there. And it also means that we'll get another crack to do more films like that."
