Rockstar Rocks
This Friday, three films released at the box office – Steven Spielberg's The Advantures Of Tintin, Tarsem Singh's Immortals and Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. Rockstar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri in the lead, was the only Hindi release. And the verdict: the response has been exceptional in most territories.
Mumbai saw a lot of buzz surrounding the film, and, according to Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines, the first day saw an opening of 80-90 per cent. "Ranbir Kapoor's performance has been appreciated." Thadani predicts that weekend collections will be "great".
According to distributor Devendra Shah, the film took an "earth-shattering" opening in the Gujarat territory. "Morning shows were 100 per cent almost everywhere while the 3 pm shows saw 90-per cent occupancy. Though the report is mixed in the film trade, the audience loves the film. I doubt collections will drop on Saturday and Sunday. Rockstar's first weekend will be outstanding."
Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts says that in Delhi, the opening of Rockstar was "superb". Ghai avers, "The film has received a 100-per cent opening in Delhi city, and, overall, it has received a good response."
Rockstar put on a strong box-office performance in Punjab too. Dharam Pal of Paramount Pictures reveals, "In Punjab, the film has had a wonderful opening of more than 80 per cent in multiplexes but shows were cancelled in single-screens for want of audience."
But Assam did not give the film the thumbs-up and the response has been lukewarm. Siddharth Goenka of Goenka Enterprise says, "In Assam, the first day was very disappointing. Overall, the film is popular in A-Class cities and has drawn a good response in multiplexes. But Assam has only five multiplexes and there are only a few screens available. It was therefore tough to accommodate all three new releases."
Ashok Choudhary of Neha Movies says the film received an outstanding opening in CI, including 70-80 per cent in A-class centres. "B-class centres have recorded the least capacity. But the report and reviews of the film are good so eventually it will gain momentum."
In Rajasthan, the audience thronged ticket counters. Says Sunil Bansal of Yash Raj Jai Pictures, "The opening of the film is terrific and in a few cinemas, the movie ran houseful. In other cinemas, occupancy was about 80 per cent. The film has received a colourful start and weekend collections will be quite pleasing."
Ravi Machchar of Sahyog Films avers, "In Hyderabad, the opening has been mind-blowing and shows have been running houseful. But in Aurangabad, the film has received a lukewarm response. In A-Class cities, the reports of the film have been very positive. It will work in A-class cities but in B- and C-class centres, the reports are only average."
