During an interview for Kurbaan, Saif maintained he wouldn't want Kareena to convert, and he said something like 'I don't believe that anymore.' So perhaps Amrita Singh did convert on paper.

As for Kareena, she's maintained that she doesn't see the reason to convert. Saif isn't going to ask her, and thus she won't. There are somethings that Kareena gives up for the guy in her life, true. And she adopts a lot from the guy in her life. But that one thing doesn't strike me as something she'd do. They've no doubt had a discussion about this way earlier. And that was when Kareena was much less Saif-ized. I could see her back then making it clear that a conversion wouldn't happen.

Her going to different places of worship kind of lends to that. I know everyone brings up her "Spiritiual and not religious" -- but having to convert would fly in the face of that. Because it would be a matter of religion, the conversion. Religious dictates, religious rules, etc etc.

Dont know whether amrita converted to islam or not but in one article it was mentioned that saif told her to go through only nikaah ...

In 1991, Saif Ali Khan had nikaah, Islamic wedding, with a 12 years older actress Amrita Singh². For his marriage preference, it has been quoted³, "Saif had clearly told Amrita that she had to fall in line and go through only a nikaah. Very nawabi when it comes to the crux." A nikaah for a Hindu or Sikh means religious conversion to Islam by Shahadah oath and given a Muslim name (Amrita's Muslim name is not known). In 2004 Amrita and Saif decided to separate, and eventually had a talaak. The children with Middle Eastern names, Sara and Ibrahim, are now with their mother, while Saif started courting with an Italian girlfriend Rosa Catalano. It is not clear if religion played any role in disagreements for this couple leading to their divorce.

Kareena is so dependent on the men in her life that she'll do whatever it takes. Wouldn't shock me if she were to convert and make it seem like it's all okay.
Wether you are Muslim, Jew, Christian, "Hindu, Sikh or Bhuddist, even if ur an Atheist or Agnostic, NO ONE should have to convert/accept a random faith for their respective spouse's. NO ONE.
Just be true to your own damn self.
Whatever you are.

I don't get why it's the woman who always convert and changes her ways for the man. Kareena doesn't seem like the independent type to stick to her identity and would probably convert within a sec if it appeased Saif. I get the daddy-complex from her. She had issues with her own father and is very impressionable. She craves acceptance and love from an older man-figure, which she finds in her bf Saif. This dependency usually doesn't work out in the end.

She's not the covert type.

totally agree she's totally dependent pair that with her daddy complex and u have the worst combination there is for any woman imo.

The Indian Special Marriage Act 1954 permits marriages between persons who are not of the same community or who have different religions or nationalities. The scope of the Act includes the entire territory of India and extends to intending spouses who are both Indian nationals living abroad.

The question is more religion based than LEGAL and arises only if they want to have a Nikaah.

So with a Nikaah one has to convert right? I can see both of them having a Nikaah. As a matter of fact, I assumed they'd get married in Nikaah only due to Saif's religious upbringing

Saif. The dude who only realized during his prep work for Kurbaan that 'Allah' is not a name for God, or name of God; but rather is a word meaning God, with its root in old Semitic language. Shows how much he really knew or paid attention.

The Nikaah possibility did come to my mind. But like I said, both Saif and Kareena had said way before that there wouldn't be any conversion. Thus they probably had decided and known well before that there would be no Nikaah. Which is a shame, because it would've been a beautiful ceremony.

They just may have all the other wedding rituals and ceremonies and then have something similar to a court marriage--but some kind of royal, tradition infused court marriage.

Saif clearly said a few years back that his thinking has changed. And he wouldn't want Kareena to convert. He is probably an example of someone who back then put stock in 'religion' while not being particularly knowledgeable about the religion, just religion as a tradition.

Plus, I have a feeling that Kareena's family from the beginning may have definitely made it clear that where wouldn't/shouldn't be a conversion.

Let's not forget - Soha is dating Kunal Khemu.
