one can convert for the sake of doing it but frm mind/heart none can ever convert ...like Salman's mother , she changed her name to Salma after marriage but does she follow Islam ? No , she very much follows Hindu religion and her children follows both religions ... Divya bharti also changed her name ( ppl say converted ) to islam to marry Sajid but her funeral happened with all Hindu rituals , means she remained Hindu always and lots of other examples
so this forcible conversion or * have to do it for this and that reason* doesn't help much ...how can some will star saying Allah when he/she used to say Bhagwan since he/she was born ... religion is the thing comes with a birth ...one can change a name but religion can never be converted unless one person wants it frm heart without any pressure like AR Rehman kind of ppllike above someone mentioned a lady converted back to Sikhism after her husband died , if she ever followed that religion frm heart why she came back to Sikhism ? means she did it for the sake of doing it not frm heart , and as soon her hubby died she again changed her nameso i feel this word " convert " is not apt ...
It's one thing to convert on paper and a whole other to do so in reality. In Saif's parents case for example it's been clear that he grew up in Muslim household only, Sharmila converted in reality not just on paper, they had no Hindu influence while growing up, none at all. If you take Salman's family you will clearly see how his mother was still allowed to practice her own birth faith even after her fake converism.
And I agree with you about people having to feel religion from the bottom of their hearts. When people convert because they choose to do, because they study it, and start believing in whatever teachings the religion has than in my opinion it's a beautiful thing. But if ppl are bound to convert in order to Marry someone as he/she cannot marry outside their faith, then maybe those people should't marry outside their faith.
And when Saif or Salman's parents married those were different times, interreligious marriages weren't legal back then. Nowadays they are, everyone can have an inter religious marriage without having to covert to a certain religion according to the law.
Did you see Hrithik coverting to Islam when he married Sussanne? No, Did you see Sussanne converting to Hinduism? No. Did Fardeen convert to Hinduism when he married Natasha? No, Did Natasha convert to Islam? No.
SRK has married Gauri, did she ever convert for him? Does it make Shah Rukh any less of a muslim because he didn't force his religion on his wife? No I don't think so.
People can get married without converting to any religion if they really want to.
Those who demand from their partner to convert do so because they believe in it, no ifs, when's and but's about it.
In Today's age even fake converisms aren't required anymore so that goes flying out of the window as well.
The reason I consider Nargis and Sunil Dutt the utlimate liberal pair of Bollywood is the fact that even in their time, neither of them forced their religion down each other's throats. When Nargis died, Sunil made Muslim funeral arrangements, she was buried, she wasn't crimated like Hindus are.
