the box office collections of this film are suspiciously establishing a norm: the more nonsensical a film the more money it makes. How else can one explain the movie Golmaal becoming a franchise and extending the non existent plot line into 3 sequels? How else can a movie like Houseful become a winner at the box office?
Agreed that Hindi films primarily operate on the escapism lever. People want to be entertained and escape the rigours of daily life. But how does one explain the current lot of films that make one want to escape from the theatre with a massive headache? How else can one make sense of the "love story" in Bodyguard? In my opinion there is NO love story, no story even! All the song and dance routines seemed to have been randomly inserted. The supposed "twist" a.k.a "shocker" in the film made no sense. How can a bodyguard, a superhuman specimen that is lovely singh in the film, fall in love with a PRIVATE NUMBER? Was he so lonely and therefore desperate? My teeth were on edge at the repetitiveness of the phone convos.
A little redeeming feature was the man himself, Salman Khan. He looked good and reminded me of his Prem avataars in various Sooraj Barjatya films. He seemed restrained and managed to invest a little vulnerability in an obviously super humanoid species that was lovely singh!
