'Bodyguard' enters records book, 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' crosses 50 crore
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, September 26, 2011]

With the release date of 'Mausam' being pushed at the last moment, there was virtually no competition whatsoever for 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' to gain from an additional week being served on a platter. Frankly, wome dent in collections of 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' had it released alongside. However Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif had luck going in thhatever be the eventual outcome of 'Mausam', it would have still have put seir favour which means the field was wide open for the film to make moolah.

This resulted in just over 50% odd fall for the Yash Raj film in its second week with over 16 crore coming in. Standing tall at over 54 crore, 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' is now all set to cross 'Delhi Belly' total of 60 crore. This also makes Imran Khan as the only other actor other than Salman Khan this year who has seen two of his films earning good collections while arriving back to back. As for Katrina, then well she is becoming pretty invincible if one also takes into account her last release 'Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara' that has now touched the 90 crores mark.

An open week proved to be quite beneficial for 'Bodyguard' as well which has now broken 'Dabangg' record of 140 crore for Salman Khan. With close to 9 crore coming in its third week, the film is now the second highest grosser in the history of Bollywood while being second only to 200 crore total of '3 Idiots'.

Meanwhile the films which released over the week, 'Jaana Pehchaana' and 'Rivaaz', have expectedly turned into disasters with near-to-nil collections.

Salman's Bodyguard outruns Dabangg at Box office?

Tuesday, September 27, 2011, 12:37 [IST]

Salman Khan's Dabangg is facing tough competition from Salman's recent blockbuster Bodyguard in the third week of its release. While Bodyguard till now has recorded net collections of more than Rs. 139 crore, Dabangg made a collection of Rs. 145 crore.

Going by the popularity of Salman Khan and the frenzy that he has created at the box office,Bodyguard is most likely to become the second highest grosser, thus pushing Dabangg in the third position at the Box Office.

However, going by the statistics, it is highly unlikely for Salman Khan to outplay good friend Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots did a net profit of Rs. 202 crore. Going by the present records, 3 Idiots seems to have secured the first position for itself at the Box Office.

Other films that have recorded significant collections at the Box Office include Ready with 120 crore,Ghajini with Rs 115 crore, Golmaal 3 with Rs 108 crore, Singham with Rs 100 crore, Rajneeti with Rs 92 crore, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with Rs. 90 crore and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Rs 85 crore.

Rivaaz's loss is MBKD, Bodyguard's gain at Box Office

Monday, September 19, 2011, 16:11 [IST]

Bollywood movie Rivaaz, which features Deepti Naval, Reema Lagoo and Vijay Raaz in the leads, has made a very poor opening at the Box Office. Director Ashok Nanda's film is said to have failed to impress the movie buffs. Its bad beginning has benefited previous releases like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Bodyguard at the Box Office this weekend.

Mausam was postponed to next week and there was no other big release this weekend. So the film Rivaazwas expected to do well at the Box Office, but it took a very poor opening, which benefited the collections of MBKD and Bodyguard to gain momentum. They did well at the collection centres.

However, Rivaaz had a limited release and was not being screened in the states like Punjab, Orrisa and Assam. This was also one reason for its poor collection. Its rival MBKD went down by more than 50% in the second week, but it earned decent money over the weekend and gross collections amounted to around Rs 16 lakh.
