agree they r repetitive and i think big proof is WAS , in the movie most Hit song was composed by a new comer Amit Trivedi while rest of the songs were by SEL and not those kind of songs which i like personally but Iktara was refreshing and amazing and Amit overshadowed SEL

if magic translates into craptastic songs like Sheila and Munni, i am so glad they lost that touch... 😆

i quite liked Khwabon Ki Parindey from the ZNMD soundtrack. Their other stuff in the past three years havn't been that impressive except for Wake up Sid and Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam. I don't think they've lost their touch or anything. Artists go into slumps and return, their sound also shifts. S-E-L will continue to grow.

SEL are, imo, one of the best currently despite their shortcomings. They always come up with classy and unique tracks - how on earth are lovely songs like Khaabon Ke Parinday and Senorita are a rehash?

Almost all their best works including DCH were not well received by anyone, but we all know how it grew on all of us and now is widely regarded as one of the best hindi OST's of current era. Their music takes time to grow on ya.

Well, that's my 2c on the subject.

Nope, I love Kya karoon etc, which were pretty darn good as well. If you get to compose a melody, it's likely that you'll score over other situational tracks, which was the case with Iktara overshadowing others, while not denying that the song is just lovely.

...i dunno...all their songs just sound the same to me now...i.e all their desi masala albums like Bunty aur babli, JBJ,Housefull, Patiala house etc feel the same and all their "hep" movies like rock on, ZNMD, LBC, don etc sound similar...same with pritam, vishal shekhar and salim suleimaan...

the only composers who maintain a versatile yet individualistic texture to their music are amit trivedi, rahaman and vishal bharadwaj.

Agreed. Amit Trivedi is definitely interesting and of course A.R Rahman, but he's doing less and less filmi music these days. I have to say, these Bollywood music directors have nothing on their southie counterparts. The likes of Pritam, SEL even Vishal-Shekar don't hold a candle to Yuvanshankar Raja, Thaman S,, G.V Prakash Kumar and Devi Sri Prasad. I find Tamil/Telugu filmi music far more versatile and interesting than anything Bollywood has to offer these days.

True though I have to say from the soundtracks there is only 1 or 2 songs that are hit not the whole album as they used to, the last complet album I enjoyed from Shankar Ehsan Loy was My Name Is Khan so it is a little disappointing. I like there oringinality and song experimenting and these songs whether one or two songs from an album is much better then copied remixed songs though (In my opinion).
Enjoying Aarakshana Ache Lagte Ha song and Kaun Se Dor, looking forward to what they have in store for us for rest of year.

MNIK was pretty ordinary by SEL standards. ZNMD is way classy, though MNIK would have better mass appeal as it's mostly sufi music. BTW give West is West a try, excellent album, better than MNIK for me.

YSR is churning out the same techno stuff we've heard from him a lot of times before. I like YSR and Thaman but comparing them with SEL? You gotta be kidding right? SEL's has way better range than ANY of the above composers. DSP is good at making so called "dappan koothu" songs, which may have a limited appeal. Beyond that it's an annoyance.
