^^ i merely followed your discussion and made my points...
and i know what you said, but you also mentioned you were comparing popularity... in any case... i do think you are giving kareena far too much credit for a character she played... there are several other factors that go into play, that account for the popularity of a character... the story of the movie, and direction to begin with...!and i was under the implications that you suggested that it "COULD" have been considered for the national award... perhaps, i was mistaken in making that interpretation...in any case, just playing a 'manic pixie girl' does not automatically become the criteria for awards... the character could be any, as long as it is played well and displays the nuances of a fine actor... so really, playing a bubbly character (which is pretty much any other character) should technically also be considered in the same league, because as you say 'to make an ordinary, almost boring stereotypical character so popular' should also 'speak volumes for their talent'... 😉😛and i don't think anyone is discrediting kareena in any sense... but merely pointing out that JWM wasn't the breakthrough performance as some are making it out to be...!p.s. thank you for refreshing my memory and providing the definition by the way... though, i still don't see how exactly that relates to the topic at hand...! 😛😛
What i was referring to was the fact that MPDG is a stock character...I never said it deserves the national award...heck i myself said tht Priyamani won the NA for a tamil film called Paruthi veeran that year...which was way more deserving than kareena winning it...so im not arguing tht she has to win the award for tht...
I was just merely stating my argument against that of some ppl who like you, feel that kareena gets "way too much credit" for JWM...I feel its well deserved because not many actors can boast of performances which redefine a stock character...like i mentioned in my previous post..
