Amir might be overconfident, and even overhyped, but whatever it may be he does his job properly. He picks the right films to be in, the right films to produce, and the right films to promote. Sometimes he uses current political issues to his advantage, but isnt that smart?

He doesnt do too much films, and looking at the past decade:

he did Lagaan, Dil Chata Hai, mangal Pandey, Fanaa, Rang De basanti, TZP, Ghajini, made a cameo in luck by chance, 3 idiots and dobhi ghat.

Films he wasn't in but produced: Jaane tu, peepli live, delhi belly

I haven't seen delhi belly yet but in regards to everything else, none of those films even remotely sucked . All of them were above average, some i even consider my favorites of the past 10 years. Aamir experiments, he is smart, resourceful and knows how to be interesting cinematic-ally.

With that said, I think his hype and popularity are well deserved but just as exaggerated as every single other person in bollywood. I don't question his popularity because at least he makes it worth it.

lastly, i was under the impression the caretakers of a house aamir bought had a dog named shah rukh because they were huge fans of SRK. Aamirs dig at shah rukh was not naming the dog but saying something like 'haha heel SRK heel boy'.

Amir does make decent films than the likes of Salman and Akshay. Than I say Thank God for Amir...that we have him in bollywood. I did like TZP and Lagaan and DCH. He was really good in Lagaan, not memorable in TZP..i think the little kid stole the show. I watched DCH long time ago, but I think he was great there too. Gajini is considered a bad film by most ppl on this forum, but I actually liked the film. 3 idiots was average for me, but def 100 times better than the crap that is released in bollywood these days.

Amir films are decent, but not great enough for me. I rather watch DDLJ and KKHH and some of sallu films like Partner than any of Amir films. What Amir films lack is entertainment and repeat value.

He's neither a perfectionist nor over confident.

He just knows how to do business. He has a company and he runs it to maximize his profits while keeping quality and credibility intact. If he wanted he could follow suit and make nonsensical NRI based romantic sagas and still make the same amount of money. But he does not, he introduces new talent and new stories. Are these movies the best I have ever seen? No. But would I chose his movies over the other big shot wannabes? Yes. He tries to attempt different things, sometimes he fails, sometimes not. I loved Dhobi Ghat and the character driven plot. I loved Peepli Live. These were movies that dealt with issues that Indians IN India face. The farmers suicide is a huge issue in India. The upper-lower society divide is also a very huge, unspoken issue. Had Aamir not used his star power and money to fund these movies, would people even be aware of these things? Probably not. I do give him credit for using his star power and money to bring light to lesser known issues.
