On topic - Saif is a good actor and he gets hype & his share of good appreciation by both the audience and the media. It is not because it does not necessarily generate any CRAZE or OVER THE TOP MASSIVE constant e worshipping that means that he's underrated. He is compared to the Khans not compared to other actors.
He's not a superstar, he's a star. Like someone said in the thread, the only thing he lacks is the Blockbuster status/label for some of his movies. Most of is work may be class but still not classic or iconic. He has hits but not superb BO figures like some others like Aamir, SRK or Salman. But in terms of acting, he's very good and has nothing to envy to the Khans.
Aamir has Lagaan, SRK has DDLJ/KKHH (actually it's the same movie as for me), Salman has HDDCS. It's like a brand. Saif doesn't have that "brand" acc to me. Even if his roles in Omkara & Being Cyrus are a challenge to be proud of compared to other characters in some BW movies.
I enjoy watching him on screen. I think he has a particular charm and has a real charisma. I like his smile and his voice. I think he's devoted to the kind of work he does : he tries to give an entertaining & substantial product to teh audience. That's commendable. He's a very spiritual & smart person from what I've heard of him or from his itws.
As for the comparison w/ Salman - I think Dabaang is a lot like OSO for SRK - both of the Khans kinda laughed at their image (SRK & his memyself&I syndrom - Salman and his cliched hero body shaped - the hero was ridiculously funny in his stuck up seriousness).
Aamir what are you wainting for...
Comingback to Saif --- I think he hasn't created his "brand" yet. Maybe it has to do w/ the way he was publicized or his choices of movies.
He's versatile & tries out different genres, that is why I like him and his work does speak for himself.
