What was so special about My Name is Khan?

😕 I know that My Name is Khan was a hit and most critics love it. However, I remember that the film made most of its money in the first week. It crashed in the second week badly though. So, how can this film still be loved if it didn't last that long in theaters to begin with? And actually, I have never seen the film. The most interesting thing is that one of my coworkers saw the film and she is not even Indian! She was raving about the film. But, I have read some things that the film was to overly dramatic and it was one of Karan Johar's worst. Also, I have read that Kajol's acting was over the top and not one of her best. I know SRK attempted something different. But, I don't even know if I will ever watch it. 😆 I have always hated Johar's films! It is not surprising he is going back to his ridiculous romantic ways in his next venture. He surely does not like to experiment that much anyway. So, he did it with one film?! Big deal! 🤢
So, please share your thoughts. What do you think was so special about My Name is Khan? 😆

Well story of MNIK was crap .

It worked because people were like crazy to see SRK KAJOL pair back onscreen after 10 long years.

This is the reason why film worked.

And regarding critics ..The lesser said , the better.

MNIK was a horrible movie. I can't believe it actually won awards. SRK's performance was so average, and Kajol was just that bad. Her over reacting, annoying screechy voice, even her outfits in the movie were cringe worthy. It may have been a good concept, but the dramatisation was just so cheesy, and puke worthy. The story plot had so many loop holes, right from the start. I can't believe i watched it, it was just that bad. I mean, atleast Ghajini was watchable. It was so bad that i started laughing half way through the movie, and i didnt stop untill the end credits started rolling. After that, i had a (W*F - i can't believe i just spent 3 hours on this crap, moment.)
The characters had no depth, they were so two dimensional. I was dissapointed, because i expected more from SRK who is slated as one of the TOP actors of bollywood and has been working in the industry years before i was even born. Mandira's character was so annoying, i could not relate to her at all.
I don't understand why Karan Johar had to blur both concepts up .. if he wanted serious, he should have stuck with it, and if that means a serious story, with serious performances, without his usual random/cheesy songs and ott expressions and dialouges then so be it.
Don't even get be started on SRK's portrayal of an autistic person suffering from asperger's syndrome. *shakes head* Asperger's sydrome isnt even on the extreme side of the autistic spectrum. I don't understand why throughout the movie the audience was compelled to feel 'sympathy' and 'pity' for Rizwaan because he is 'special'. There are so many people in this world who are disadvantaged and are living independent lives. On top of that, Mandira's mood swings where Rizwaan is concerned, almost gave me whiplash. You call that love?
Karan Johar, please stick to your K3G's and KKHH type movies. Serious drama is just not your cup of coffee.

SRK has hardly any dramatic, hard-hitting movies! Does Devdas or even Swades count? 😆 There were critics who actually appreciated him in these movies. However, I think I will not watch My Name is Khan for sure based on your analysis. Thank you for giving me the lowdown on this film! Now, I know for sure that this film is overrated and not worth spending my money on! 😕
