Roles of 'substance' or 'masala' roles?

😃😃😃 Ok, what do you prefer? Roles of "substance" or "masala" roles? We all know the "masala" roles are a hit with the audiences. However, actors/actresses get majorly criticized for playing it safe and not experimenting. But, the key is keeping that balance. Which actresses/actors can keep that balance well, doing the "substance" and "masala" roles? Some can do both well, while others can't!

Please share your thoughts on this, it would make way for an interesting topic!

kareena USED to....not anymore...shes just doing masala roles now....

but there seems to be some substance in her agent vinod, reema kagti roles...

same with saif...for every salaam namaste, he did an omkara....for every kal ho na ho, he did a being cyrus, for every love aaj kal, he did a kurbaan...i think he is the only one who consistently strikes that balance...

I agree with saif.. some substance, some masala... arakshan, agent vinod, cocktail, race, etc.

Kareena used to.. nowadays i dunno what shes doing, and PC well she also used to.

We saw fashion/dostana, WYR/Pyaar Impossible, AA/7KM... they all were mostly substance besides maybe PI and dostana.. now shes just doing substance

i guess Amir.. he does a 3 idiots we love it.. he does a Dhobi ghaat we love it.. then he does Dil chahta hai we crave for more.. he then shocks you by rang de basanti.. so i guess he does sorts a things.. there are other actors too not coming in my mind.. yeaaahh man Irrfan Khan.. he rocksssssssss.. he makes u laugh.. he makes u cry.. he sometimes fight.. he's not the pretty face hero but the has alot of substance.. i love him as an actor !!

I know I know all would disagree with me but Salman Khan has done some wonderful substance role.. like HAHK, Tere Naam, HDDCS, Khamoshi, Baaghi, Phir milenge.. and then his masala movies speak at the BO like Judwaa, Biwi no 1, Wanted, Dabangg, Partner etc etc..

aming actresses.. i Guess Kangana has the potential and other than her i really dont like any actress becuz i think they cant act and they are put in masala movies for dance and romantic scenes..

First and foremost, Aamir Khan!! LOVE how he balances out his work 👏 I think Priyanka, Kareena, Saif, balance their roles out. Though I haven't seen a role of substance from Bebo in a long time. Maybe Hrithik..a little. I think Ranbir has the potential too, like with Ajab and WUS. I hope Deepika is able to do this too in her next films! 😊

Aishwarya sucks in masala roles .. her 'are you like checking me out' dialouge still makes me want to claw my eyes out.

I think a mixture of both is important, masala roles are needed to gain popularity and a good box office standing while "roles of substance" help portray an actor's acting skills better.

I think Aamir has done brilliantly with both and Amitji ofcourse through his career has been able to adapt to both that's one of the reasons why he has had such a long standing in the film industry. Hrithik's also done relatively well.

Actresses I would say PC has done well as well as Kareena in the past. Even Rani did the balance of both realtively well.
