There's not much substance in mainstream cinema still I think these days Saif Ali Khan is one actor who is trying something different with no conceit. When he attempts a Being Cyrus (I'm yet to watch it) you don't hear him say, "My film is for class audience and not for masses. You need to understand cinema yada yada."

Ranbir Kapoor is another promising actor who I think will excel in most roles.

I think for an actress to try mixture of roles is always awesome. If one actress just keeps on doing substance roles...it gets boring. And same with if an actress just keeps doing glam roles in her career that also gets boring. Same way that Akki keeps on doing comedy and we are getting bored of him now.

I think in her career, kareena has balanced her roles fairly well. Excelling in both masala and substance roles. That's why I believe she is the most versatile actress in bollywood..she can do it all. IF she did K3G, JWM, and Mujhe Kuch Kehna hai, 3 idiots she also has Dev, Omkara, Chameli, Kurbaan, Yuva, and now she has Agent Vinod and Reema Kagti's Next with Amir...which I think are both substance roles from what I read. And Ra.One and Bodyguard for masala.

From the guys...I think Saif and Amir balance their roles fairly well. Even though am a bigger SRk fan than these two, I dont think SRK tried his had with a substance role like Saif in Omkara for example.

In actors, Saif has done the best job balancing.
In the current actresses, Priyanka tries her best to balance both out even if she doesn't taste that much success. None of the other female A-listers try to right now..

Masala roles can be substantial too.
However, by Bollywood's standards, most of the time they are mutually exclusive.

As for topic, Saif and Aamir, and to some extent, Kareena too.
