yeh udaan was definately a better film for me...but like i said...peepli had tht underdog feel...u know...extreme poverty n stuff...kinda like wht slumdog millionare showed.....this is a really gross stereotype and i apologize if it offends anyone...but in general..ive noticed ppl in the west take a liking towards watching indian movies which showcase the starker underbelly of the country..and peepli fit the bill there acc to me......

and yes....Indian-ness is a word!!! 😆...in my dictionary!

^^salaam bombay is much like slumdog millionare.....i remember watching it a long time ago..it also focused on mumbai slums and underworld n stuff...

i would have thought they would nominate satya to the oscars.....but indian gangster films dunt really ring a pleasant bell in most minds...majority of them seem to ape godfather and tarantino films..

no, i don't quite agree with you... 😛😛 those seem to be aamir's words.... 😉😛😛😛
they also quite like movies which show triumph of human spirit... they like generally uplifting movies, with a good message...! slumdog wasn't just about the 'starker underbelly of the country', it was much more than that... i know of so many people who liked it, and they did not like it because it showed a bad side of India...! 😛😛😛
regarding salam bombay... hmmmmm... i'll have to see it for myself then and decide....! thanks for the info... doesn't sound too interesting but who knows...

These are the ones shortlisted...
BiutifulImage Credit: Jose HaroIt's been a good week for Javier Bardem's Biutiful. Yesterday Bardem scored a Best Actor nomination from the British Academy. And now the film has landed on the list of nine semifinalists for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award. The films that will now vie for an Oscar nomination are:

Hors la Loi (Outside the Law) [Algeria]
Incendies [Canada]
In a Better World [Denmark]
Dogtooth [Greece]
Confessions [Japan]
Biutiful [Mexico]
Life, Above All [South Africa]
Tambien La Lluvia (Even the Rain) [Spain]
Simple Simon [Sweden]

Incendies has been a film-festival hit in the past few months, while In a Better World won the foreign-film Golden Globe this past Sunday. Both films will play at the Sundance Film Festival which starts tomorrow.

it wasn't oscar material in the first place. I don't think any film in 2010 was. I haven't seen udaan so I can't comment on that, but from the ones that I've seen - none had the edge to qualify for an oscar nomination.

told u it was a gross stereotype..😆.but it was just an observation i made...considering my non-indian friends...prefered watching Satya to devdas...😆....oh well...but yeh slumdog was a "feel good" film overall, but it did showcase a gritty portrait of mumbai slums and underworld...it was one of the major themes of the movie....so although i thought the movie was overrated, i wasnt surprised when it won at the oscars...the films which were nominated by the academy, salaam bombay and mother india fall into a similar category...hence the inference...but like i said...its a pretty crude statement to make and i can see many ppl disagreeing with me.

Sorry for being an idiot....but what does LSD stand for? Pragya mentioned it, and I feel clueless.
