Mumbai, Jan 20 – Bollywood actor Aamir Khan Thursday said he is disappointed at 'Peepli Live' failing to get selected at the Oscars but is happy that his film represented India.

'I came to know that 'Peepli Live' is out of Oscars. I am of course sad about it. But, I am happy that we represented India and we were one among the world's best 60 films which were sent to Oscars. We are disappointed and sad,' Aamir told reporters at a press conference at the Sun and Sand hotel here.

The actor maintained that he doesn't make films for the Oscars.

'I don't make them for Oscars, neither for any other awards. I make films for the audience. I value whatever response I get from the audience, critics and media. Oscars, Cannes, Berlin Festival – they are like platforms where international audience come to know about our films. If you win there, more people watch them,' said Aamir.

'Peepli Live', the directorial debut of Anusha Rizvi, explores the disparity between rural and urban India.

The film failed to make it in the list of nine movies selected for the next next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards.

Face it Aamir Oscars are just annoying and you shouldn't even try and think you would get a place 🤣

I actually thought films like Taare Zameen par, Peepli Live and Lagaan deserved a place but Oscars have a different taste

i agree with ruky...
why we are hell bent on getting an oscar...lets face it we can't win it...i mean if a movie like mother india cant win it...no other movie can...
and i always knew lagaan will never win it as well as so as dhobi ghaat if it is sent there...
ppl have misconception...tht slumdog millionare won it for india...its plain ridiculous...sure the film was based on india's slums...but it was prodcued by an american company called 'fox searchlight films' other hand of 21st century fox productions....so it was totally an american movie...

I'm pretty sure you were hoping MNIK went through.... but tough luck.

On a eperate note I dont think Peepli Live was Oscar worthy. I have seen far more worth foreign movie in 2010.

Personally I don't see why Lagaan got nominated a few years ago? Peepli Live according to me was infinitely better. Maybe there were just better movies this year compared to then.

I liked how Peepli Live started off but it got quite chaotic later.. The whole thing with the media and how it was shown was pretty annoying. And also the night sequences 😕 What was going on there? 🥱

Yeah even Lagaan wasn't as deserving.
