Guzaarish is really not a flop, a media conspiracy

🤢 I was reading some articles today about Guzaarish needing approximately 35 crores to break even for UTV from the India and overseas box office grosses. 25 crore was gained from music and satellite rights. The total investment was 60 crore by UTV.
Now, let's do the math:
Box Office India says it has done nearly 28 crore after 2 weeks. The gross from U.S. and UK is nearly 7 crores. So, that is exactly 35 crore.
I know the real story, but the media will always say otherwise and it is a conspiracy. I bet a couple of months from now, they will say it is below average. Who knows? But, the fact is, 35 crore is a lot (nearly $9 million in U.S. dollars) for a film subject like this. If only SLB had made the budget 25 crore, it would have been so much better. But, the fact is that Guzaarish hasn't flopped because UTV looks to have recovered their investment after looking at the numbers I just mentioned.
What do you really believe now after 2 weeks since Guzaarish has released? 😭

When we talk about flops, it is in terms of box office only ..... Because of satellite tv rights, 9 out of 10 movies recover their cost. Movies like saawariya, veer, kites etc etc all recovered their cost but are called flops ..... A movie has to be absolutely dismal for it not to break even .....

Most flop films over the years have broken even. This is no media conspiracy . Flop/ hit - the media is referring to audience acceptance or rejection not accounting profit or loss.

That plus, didn't it take 100 crores to make this movie? And it made a profit of 60 crore... that is not a profit.

agree....even small budget films that break even or do well aren't recognized b/c they don't have a huge opening!!!

when the media says flop, it means general rejection by the audience in terms of enthusiasm about the movie or the effort they put to watch it...like with 3 idiots, ppl were booking for a show 3 weeks in advance and sum were going for seconds and thirds (repeat audience)...now that is a valid hit because ppl are genuinely interested in watching the movie....same with small films like dev d and a wednesday....there was a unanimous interest amongst the audience.

With guzaarish, ppl r so "meh" abt it....therz no buzz, no positiveity, no repeat audience, nothing....so it is a flop technically....not any conspiracy....

rule in bollywood: If the movie is neither path breaking, nor record breaking, ....meaning...if it dosent make any impact whatsoever, then its declared a flop...and thats fair enough...coz why spend our precious money on mediocre entertainment?

"If a movie grosses more than its budget, it is called hit. If it cannot exceed its budget, it is called flop. If it can barely manage to come close or exceed its budget by a small margin, it is called average or semi-hit. So essentially, a movie that flops is not liked by the majority or the masses, or else chances are that it would have crossed its budget. Of course you have to take the budget into consideration too. A low budget film generally has more chance of being a hit than a high budget one (though the opposite hold true as well; a high budget movie can lure more people into watching it by the endless promotions unlike a low budget movie, which has to rely mostly on good Word of Mouth)."
