Actually, Rani was the first choice for Chalte Chalte. SRK wanted to cast her in the film after watching Saathiya. Rani however wasn't keen on doing the film as her role was similar to that of Saathiya, and Aishwariya took the project. Nevertheless, due to Salman's interference, SRK called back Rani to do the film and she took the offer this time.

This is what i thought too in the beginning but when DBH was released and media asked her about her relationships with Adi, she mentioned that she owes a lot to Adi b/c Karan thought she can't look chic in the movie but Adi convinced him. It may be both since all 3 of them were friends.

Without trying to steer the topic into another direction, I do think that Ash was justified in feeling the way she did towards Rani and SRK. Both of them - SRK and Rani - claimed to be her friends, but did not bother informing her before cutting her off the film. She felt left out.

I can't picture Ash doing this role. The only other actress who might have played this role with equal grace and elegance would be Kajol; she was also considered for this role if I'm not wrong.

After the salman debacle in chalte chalte, Kajol said she was at srk's house and she knew he was having trouble getting a heroine, so she offered to do it. But she found out she was pregnant so she couldnt do it.
