Akshay Kumar Is Back To Giving Hits
About the SRKajol comparsion...LOL CHILL! 🤣 Whenever a pair is hit they are compared to these 2 because they are right up there but lets not forget that their pairing became HUGE after their 3rd film. It was DDLJ, KKHH and K3G which put them on this pedestal not Karan Arjun and Baazigar :)
So don't take every comparision to them so seriously! Imran and Sonam are fresh. How about we just leave them! :)
Chemistry is Chemistry and I thought Imran and Sonam had lots of it 😃 My point is that every new hit jodi is compared to SRKajol but that tag is just passed on from one couple to another. It doesn't mean anything... :\
SRK and Kajol are my favourite actors but I think its great when other pairs are compared to them because it just goes to show that no-one has been able to touch them. I don't see it as a big deal and even they weren't great when they started off as actors but now they act like legends (which they are).
Anyway, enough of that essay! LOVED the film for what it is, a simple cute love story and a kind of parody of Hindi love stories <3

I Hate Love Storys (IHLS) makes a bad attempt to spoof some great blockbusters of Bollywood like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ), "Dil to Pagal Hai" and "Dil Chahta Hai" and ends up being a copy paste from different movies, a total patchy work. A Dharma Production film, a movie from Karan Johar's banner cannot always be a Kuch Kuch Hota hai but I didn't expect it to be such a dud either. It is all very predictable ' did Punit Malhotra, the director not consider my money worthy of atleast a pleasant journey to the end credits?
IHLS has a Simran, a Raj, great sets and good clothes but the story is missing.
There is Simran Sharma (Sonam Kapoor) who believes in love, loves "loves storys" and engaged to be married to her childhood sweetheart. The character is not new to the audience, we have seen convincing characters of Madhuri Dixit in Dil to Pagal Hai, Kajol in DDLJ and Priety Zinta in Dil Chahta Hai, but this one just does not send the love bytes across to you. Simran's fianc, Raj (Sameer Dattani), is a perfect guy, perfectly boring too and from the very beginning you can make out that he is not going to get to marry our Simran. And of course, we have Jay Dhingra (Imran Khan), the cool dude.
Raj wears "fugly" shirts, insists on gifting one white flower to Simran daily and has a "I-do-not-drink-on-a-weekday" attitude. Life is simply perfect for the love birds, they even coordinate the colour of their clothes till Jay (mind it, it to be pronounced as "J" and not "Jai") enters their life. Jay is the perfect imperfect guy who believes in one-night stands and just does not believe in love or marriage (his parents got separated you see, sic!). Both Simran and Jay work for Veer Kapoor (Samir Soni), a noted director famous for his romantic stories. And as you can guess, it is a "I hate you" to a "I love you" tale.
You might argue that this is just a situation and not a story, but when did I refuse to accept your argument? This is what the first half of the movie is all about ' situations. Do I even need to tell you that Simran eventually falls for Mr Wrong? I mean after all, the bad boys end up getting the good girls!
Sonam Kapoor looks fresh, delivers rehearsed dialogues and her emotions do not reach you. The saving grace is the chemistry between the male actors, be it Imran Khan and Aseem Tiwari (Nikhil, Jay's friend) or Imran and Amir Ali who portrays the character of a superstar in Veer Kapoor's film.
The film has some fresh funny lines. Some of the dialogues are really funny, but there are many that are really clich. The pace of the film is very slow and could have been shortened, infact chopped to half the length.
Music, I did not care about it. Film, even if you are hopelessly in love with love stories, it does not have any repeat value.
My rating: Don't wish to think about it.

So, the actor "J" doesn't believe in love storys; the director doesn't believe in Love storys..no wonder they did such a f-messed up job with it.
For the story- take Amir-Preity bit of the cult flick -Dil Chahta hai (complete with the gal's fiance), put some 7-8 very forgettable songs and BANG- U have a ready-made movie recipe. The only problem is- there is absolutely no chemistry, whatsoever, between the actors. Imran khan couldn't copy even 1/100th of his uncle's happy-go-lucky, slightly cocky attitude of DCH, neither could Sonam Kapoor portray the subtle sensuality and the sense of burden of an unwanted relationship, that Preity played so convincingly. The audience would find it hard to figure out, why did Simran fall in love with "J" in the first place, and again how did "J" realize that he also loved her- and the same thing twice over. In today's fast moving world, love isn't really a complicated affair, surely not worth wasting a song every time one of the lead actors experience a change of emotion. Seriously, there is one song (might be the same one, couldn't figure out the difference anyway) whenever they fall in/out of love.
In the entire movie, "J" avoids talking to his mother, leading the audience to believe the making of some deep drama. But when he finally calls her, she talks to him with no more emotion than while talking to a fellow kitty member. In the end, he just says that he had wronged her by running way, and she responds- "oh, it's quite all right, don't mention it"..and that's that. Remember in DCH, when Amir calls his father from Australia and starts crying- I remember getting goosebumps seeing that.
The movie also aims to spoof all SRK and Karan Johar's styled movies. So much so, that almost all songs are shot with the same costumes, choreography and background. I have a nagging suspicion that it was done for saving some money- cuz it sure wasn't funny.
Imran seriously needs to start thinking about his choice of movies after 3 continuous duds. Why is he considered an icon already, is totally beyond me. Sonam is totally wasted here as well. But I think, to sound fair, I should mention atleast some good points about the movie. Fine- there was one. "J's" fatty friend (Sprite famed), who manages to elicit some laughs once in a while- although here also, 2-3 jokes were straightaway lifted from the hit TV series- HIMYM. Even so, it's better than an otherwise unbearable, unemotional piece of plagiarism.
