I am going to write a post for a change which will not bash anyone, so it will please others. LOL

Manisha Koirala was my favorite actress before Ash came along. Manisha worked with all the directors Ash worked with as well (Subhash Ghai, Mani Ratnam, Sanjay Bhansali, Raj Kumar Santoshi, Ram Gopal Verma, etc.). Her filmography was simply amazing in the 90's. She gave great performances in films such as Bombay, 1942: A Love Story, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Khamoshi, Dil Se, Mann, Lajaa, Company, etc. When I look at Manisha's body of work, not even Rani or Preity come close. So, how can Ash?

Manisha was Madhuri's closet competitor back in the 90's. She had gorgeous looks, acting ability, and acted with all the top heroes. What went wrong? Because she did not have enough hits, the industry wrote her off. She did B-grade movies and faded away into oblivion. She just got married recently before she hits 40. At least she didn't end up with a bad fate.

Bottom Line, Manisha did not get her due in Bollywood. What went wrong?

From what I have heard, Manisha was an alcoholic. That combined with her fluctuating weight and wrong choice of movies spelled disaster for her career

Manisha acted in over 60 films during a nearly 20 year career. So, she did accomplish a lot. Her filmography is very comparable to Madhuri's! The only thing Manisha lacked - not enough hits! And Subhash Ghai launched her, the good old days. 😒

Hmmm I do think she is a good actress even better than Aish. But I was never her fan though. She should have never done that B grade movie and she should have took care of her body. Lets be honest looks is a big part of cinema

The number of movies does not matter. Do you know the number of movies that Keshto Mukherjee acted in ? Over a 130. Its the quality and not quantity that matters

And she never worked with the Chopra's or Johar's either. She still managed to deliver a portfolio of amazing work. So, working in a Yash Chopra or Karan Johar film is not royalty and Manisha still made an impact with her natural acting. Also, none of her films with the Khans were hits either! I hate the media and they bashed her for being a flop queen! And, Manisha and Madhuri were rivals. They still did Lajaa back together in 2001. 😳

I dunt think anything went wrong. Every actress has a peak time in her career but its silly to think that the peak time would stay forever...so just like Priety, rani, sridvei, maduri....she had her share of good times as far as career goes, and now i presume shes retired and happily married. :)

i think she was good in her time and people will remember her for her fab roles, but now things have been different in bollywood, in recent times, i think she should avoid those B-grade films and do something nice roles

I am going to be the odd one here freely admitting that I don't consider Madhuri to be all that great an actress. I consider her vastly overrated and over-hyped. Granted that she could dance well, and compared with the contemporaries, she was the best dancer of her time - but when you compare her with today's top dancers, namely Ash, you will see that Madhuri wasn't anything exceptional. She looked good and had a charm of her own, she was a decent actress too with giving a few brilliant performances here and there, but overall, I thought she was hyped more than necessary. And that's just my opinion, please don't attack me simply cause of that.

I love Manisha. She was superb in all the films listed. She was a phenomenal actress, and to her credit, she didn't need commercially successful films or directors to garner acclaims and popularirty.

IMHO her best performance is Dil Se. What a complex character, and how greatly she pulled it off!

Manisha was one of my fav actress, such a shame her career ended prematurely. She complete;y mis-managed her career, shot of her mouth critising every actress in interviews, alcohol issues and fluctuating weight.

She was brilliant in so many movies... wish she can still make a come back.
