Shiv Sainiks protest against My Name... in Pune, Nagpur
Pune: Angry over his remarks regreting non-inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the IPL, a group of Shiv Sainiks today burnt an effigy of actor Shah Rukh Khan and posters of his film My Name Is Khan at Akurdi near here, police said.
The Sena activists gathered at a square and shouted anti-Khan slogans condemning his comments advocating inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in IPL.

Later, police arrived on the scene and rounded up some of the protesters.

Multiplexes here refrained from opening the advance bookings of the movie after Shiv Sena activists handed over letters to theatre owners requesting them not to release it on Friday.

Pune unit of Shiv Sena chief Nana Wadekar told PTI that the party activists would stage protests in front of the cinema houses that did not heed the party's appeal.

Similar protests were witnessed in Nagpur with Sainiks burning posters of the movie at RBI square, and effigy of the actor at Panchshil Square, police said.

Congress slams Sena for targeting Shah Rukh's film
New Delhi: The Congress today lashed out at the Shiv Sena over its protests against the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer My Name Is Khan and said civil society should condemn parties trying to draw political mileage from films.
"Such parties, which openly give a challenge to create instability, should be condemned by civil society," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.

Singhvi was replying to queries about the Sena's renewed threat to prevent the release of the film on Friday unless Khan retracts his statement favouring the inclusion of Pakistani players in the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL-3).

Instead of drawing political mileage from a film, the Sena should raise issues concerning the people, Singhvi told reporters.

Congress MP Rajiv Shukla, who is also the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said in Chandigarh that films should not be used to draw political mileage. He said, "Wisdom should prevail on the Shiv Sena and the Sainiks must withdraw their agitation against the film."

Taking a jibe at the Sena's threat to disrupt the release of the film, Singhvi said, "The hollowness of such claims has come to the fore many times in the last few weeks."

Sena leader Manohar Joshi had yesterday threatened that his party would not allow the film to be released till the actor apologised to party president Bal Thackeray.

as situations has become more dramatic, i m actually trying to figure out now who is actually on fault?

No one is Saint in this Issue, No SRK, No SS

in all this hulla gulla all parties involved , SRK, SS and Congress....it is Everyone's Gain ( well is it SRK's gain will be confirmed on Friday if SS didnt oppose the release)

i agree with the above part now if this issue is so serious, even the release of the movie is questionable in one big city then why SRK is bz promoting this movie instead of being in Mumbai with the ppl related to MNIK

We won't allow screening of My Name Is Khan in J&K: Shiv Sena
Jammu: The Bhartiya Vidharthi Sena (BVS), Shiv Sena's youth wing, today threatened that it will not allow screening of Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name Is Khan (MNIK) in cinema theatres across Jammu and Kashmir.
My Name Is Khan

"Till the last Shiv Sainik is alive, the screening of MNIK is impossible in J&K," BVS state president Vikrant Sharma said in statement here.

BVS warned theatre and multiplex owners in the state not to screen the movie till the actor apologise for his statement favouring inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL.

By his remark, Khan has insulted every Indian, Sharma said, adding, "All this was done intentionally for the promotion of film...We cannot allow anti-national people and anti-national speeches in the country just for someone's personal gains."

So SS threatened Srk's movie and calling him a traitor and what should Srk do? Prove himself that he's a true indian? take his comments back and bow down to SS? I am glad no promotion event has cancelled or else i would be disappointed. This isn't just about Srk movie, there are fans of Srk who is waiting for him and Kajol. HOw would i feel if Srk would had cancelled all his event in NY, London, Dubai and now at Berlin. No one must stop their live for their enemies and ESPEICALLy people like Shiv Sena and his Coward Servants.

They can attack Srk but why not Amitabh?? Why are you letting him go with his Aman ki Asha? Why Atif Aslam still getting work in Indian movies?? Why people listening to his songs? Go attack to the people who buy atif's song or make it to top charts. Why only Srk?

Situation over 'My Name is...' calm, says CM

Ashok Chavan wants all citizens to go and watch the film; controversies be damned
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is in the hot seat, as the state holds its breath over the release of Shah Rukh Khan's My Name is Khan. At stake: the credibility of the government which has made claims to have complete control over the law and order situation.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is in the hot seat, as the state holds its breath over the release of Shah Rukh Khan's My Name is Khan. At stake: the credibility of the government which has made claims to have complete control over the law and order situation.

It has indeed become a prestige issue for the coalition government, which needs to prove all is indeed well between its coalition members and that it has the power to ensure a peaceful, conducive environment for citizens. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, the Chief Minister said, "We are providing all kind of security to the theatres, despite that some incidents of vandalism have taken place.

Police is doing its job and as many as 1,000 agitators have been arrested and they have been produced in court and they have been remanded to police custody also. We will provide the required security for the release of the film. We will not let the situation go out of hand."

Chavan minced no words when it came to his political adversary the Shiv Sena, which has been on a rampage across the city, agitating against the SRK film. "Election to the state assembly were held four months ago and people voted for us, and asked Shiv Sena to sit in opposition. Despite that, they are holding people at ransom. This is not acceptable."

According to the CM, the Sena does not have the support of the masses. "Even people are not supporting their agitation. There are various forums to express your views in a peaceful manner. You can come and meet me, give me a representation, take out a morcha in a peaceful manner. But indulging in violent protests and creating nuisance is not a proper way."

A still from the movie My Name Is Khan, scheduled for release on Friday

Ensuring that the entire police force is geared towards protecting the film from the Sena agitation has put considerable staring on the State's resources, admitted Chavan.

"Already our police force is burdened with maintenance of law and order, keeping constant vigil to prevent any untoward incident and now they have been asked to provide bandobast around the film, putting extra strain on our resrouces. This is highly deplorable," he said.

However, he is also ready to offer an olive branch to the Sena. "Whatever has happened forget it. Come forward for a dialogue and discuss the issue with me so that people at large should not feel inconvenienced or threatened."

Police security outside Sterling Theatre at CST on Wednesday

Chavan did not refute the theory that he is under some sort of pressure from the centre to handle the MNIK issue well. "The centre, especially the Home Ministry is monitoring the situating closely and the Home Minister has expressed his concern about the situation," he said, adding, "But I request all parties to resolve this amicably and not turn this into a prestige issue."

While the Sena reacted angrily to the withdrawal of security cover for some of their key legislators, Chavan defended the move. "Agitators pelting stones and damaging property in the presence of armed policemen does not present a good picture of the state. I cannot allow this."

Reacting to the media reports and the speculation in political circles about NCP's signals to the Shiv Sena post Sharad Pawar's meeting Bal Thackeray, Chavan said, "I am yet to be informed about the purpose and the details of the said meeting. But let me assure you, our idealogy is well defined about people and running the state, our government is under no threat."

Finally, the chief minister sent out a message to all citizens, "Not only MNIK, I want people to come forward and enjoy each and every film in a peaceful, environment. Every one is safe and secure in this state."

From the time Mani Ratnam held a special screening for Bal Thackeray to gain his consent before releasing Bombay in 1995, Bollywood has been living in terror of extra-judicial authority.

Instances of film-makers know-towing-such a clich but at the same time wonderfully evocative, at once conjuring a vivid image of the act— are numerous. Whether it is Ram Gopal Varma screening Sarkar, again for Mr Thackeray or Sushmita Sen, dressed in an aptly demure white salwar kameez, interceding on behalf of her co-star Salman Khan after Sainiks wanted to disrupt their film, Maine Pyar Kyu Kiya.

Encouraged by Mr Thackeray's success several Minimes have sprouted over time. Last year (2009) Karan Johar visited Raj Thackeray's home to apologise for the inadvertent use of the word Bombay in his film Wake Up Sid, never mind that half of the population still oscillates between Mumbai/Bombay (Bombay High Court, anyone?). Most recently even neta-lette Nitesh Rane demanded cuts in the Marathi film Zhenda because a goonda-like character in the film was said to resemble his father Narayan Rane.

If politicians behave thus can individual communities be far behind? So everyone from O…B to C now plays censor.
With big monies at stake -as they did with the underworld in the nineties – most filmmakers choose to compromise. After all what's in a sorry? Or a special screening? Ergo massaging yet another ego? No one understands that game better than a film producer who deals with super-stars at all times.

Which is why Shah Rukh Khan's polite refusal to pay an unsolicited visit to a certain home at Bandra (East) is such a startling and brave move. All it would take is a 15-minute visit for a cup of tea with Mr T to end his troubles over My Name Is Khan. "No apology has been demanded and so none needs to be given," he has said in his interviews. But when there is a Rs 80 crore film at stake, and in which he himself has invested heavily, it takes gumption to stick to that stand.

In the last 48 hours some theatres have been vandalized by Sainiks, and though chief minister Ashok Chavan has assured the film will release, some exhibitors, wary from past history, have refused to screen the film. Shah Rukh Khan, we learn is in Abu Dhabi and from where he and his producer are travelling to Berlin for the Film Festival. He will not be here for the release of his biggest film in two years.

We kinda like that.
