Warns parties against damaging movie theatres, says they will be made to pay for damages

The Shiv Sena will have to pay through its nose if it indulges in ransacking or disturbing theatres screening movies of actor Shah Rukh Khan.

Issuing a stern warning to any political party that may plan to protest against the actor's wish to include Pakistani cricketers in the IPL, Home Minister R R Patil said on Saturday that not only the cost of the property damage to the cine houses, but also the monetary loss caused due to cancellation of shows, would be recovered from the concerned political parties.

"We are not here to tolerate extra-constitutional censorship. If a party has any grievances against a particular movie, it should approach the Censor Board. Any move to disrupt movies approved by the Central Board of Film Certification, will not be accepted," he said.

Shiv Sena units in Mumbai and its suburbs warned the makers of the SRK film My Name is Khan against releasing it, threatening to attack the theatres that screened it.

The government has decided to view seriously any threats given to theatres and movie shows, Patil warned. In a bid to show how serious the state government is about this stand, Patil's deputy Ramesh Bagwe on Friday even offered to provide police protection to Khan if he so desired.

Bagwe added that Australian and Pakistani cricketers, coming to the state would also be provided protection.


Khan in trouble

In the last couple of days Sena leaders have agitated against the actor, tearing posters of his film My Name Is Khan - slated for a February 12 release - in Thane, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad.

The party has taken an offence to Khan's willingness to include Pakistani cricketers in his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sena leaders even said that if the actor was really interested in including cricketers from across the border in KKR, he should leave his palatial home at Mannat, Bandra, and shift to Islamabad or Karachi, to play with the Pakistani players.

"He (SRK) must know what will happen if he dares to invite any player from Australia and Pakistan here," Sena MP Sanjay Raut had said on Friday.

After targeting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his remarks supporting the inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the IPL, the Shiv Sena Saturday dragged in Aamir Khan, calling the duo '2 Idiots'.

'In real life, Aamir and Shah Rukh have been proved as '2 Idiots' as both are making stupid statements supporting the cause of Pakistani cricketers,' said a statement in the party's Hindi mouthpiece Dopahar Ka Saamna.

'On the one hand, while SRK is openly displaying his love for Pakistani players, Aamir has even put nationalistic sentiments in his utterances on this issue,' said the statement in the tabloid, which hit the stands this afternoon.

'According to Aamir, if any cricketer is good, he would like to have him in his team, it makes no difference to him which country he belongs to,' said the statement.

The statement is accompanied by a digitally altered picture of the recent record blockbuster '3 Idiots'. It shows the head of Aamir (the star and promoter of the movie) popping out of a drum and SRK sticking his tongue from another drum - signifying the accompanying heading of '2 Idiots'.

Aamir had said Friday that if he were to select IPL players he would do so only on the basis of their performance and not nationality.

The Shiv Sena Friday hit out at Shah Rukh, who is also the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, after he said he would have picked a Pakistani player for IPL matches if his team had a slot.

Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said if the actor was so keen on them, 'he could go play his matches in Lahore, not in India'.

Thane Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde announced that no film of Shah Rukh would be screened in the district.

Both actors have not reacted to the Shiv Sena's tirade.

According to Fardioon on Twitter, SS are sending SRK a ticket to Pakistan. I don't know whether to laugh or be disgusted, really.

Oh and, they wrote "Deshdrohi" on some theater wall next to MNIK poster. This is beyond horrible now.

God, these people are such sickos! Just because SRK said some nice words towards the Pakistani players.. he's a traitor now and they're all burning his posters and threatening him! Goodness!

Had SRK been completely diplomatic like Preity and Shilpa, then the Pakistani people would have turned against him.. I seriously pity him.. whatever he does, he lands in a controversy!

These SS people really need to get a life yaar.. protesting outside his house and all.. I just hope everything turns better for SRK and MNIK does well and these SS people get a bit of brain for themselves!

40 people arrested so far. Mannat is largely peaceful, the area has almost been cordoned off. One of the news channels (News 24) reported that a grenade proof van and combat van are parked outside Mannat.
