Valid post Roxy partner, though I am not in full agreement with you.
I agree with Sneha, I think she has covered everything that I had wanted to say here. I don't think there is anything wrong with SRK doing a role of a mentally challenged/handicapped person, he is a good actor, yes he can overdo it at times, but then again which actor hasn't? Whether they're from hollywood or bollywood; be it Aamir or Tom Hanks. Every actor has portrayed a role where they've gone just a tad bit over with their acting. Personally I think its far too early to comment on his acting, I think that decision should be made after watching the movie.
Every star is an actor first, and personally I am satisfied with what I saw of SRK in the promo, some parts did look over, but I am willing to wait and see. But then again every individual has different opinion. I thought Aamir was a tad bit over in the first promo of 3 idiots, and I am a massive Aamir fan.. I've watched every single movie of his be it one of his really crapy early ichaadhari naag movie. So I think I am going to wait and see.
Regards to the movie; yes I am skeptical coz its a KJo movie. Of course its going to have its fair share of melodrama and over exaggeration, thats a KJo stamp. Regards to the autism and Asperger's sydrome debate; SRK's character has Asperger's syndrome and its a form of autistic disorder. Its not as severe as autism. People with Aspergers syndrome experience difficulties with communication and social skills. They find it hard to communicate, as its hard for them to understand people's body language, gestures etc and they tend to take peoples comments literally..basically they might not be able to understand a joke for instance. So I think 'the I want to meet the president' might have something to do with that..I am just harbouring a guess here. They might appear insensitive and sometimes continually talk as well. They also sometimes devlop an obsession with objects, interests etc...so may be meeting the president part might be due to this. My guess is as good as yours here.
So basically thats what SRK is shown to have, he is not able to cope well socially....even though they want to communicate and socialise, but its difficult for them to mix with people. So thats the basic gist of Aspergers.. they don't really have a speech problem as such as someone with autism might have.
Sorry I seem to have overdone with explanation..and any way I don't think this movie is as such on the issue of terrorism, its more of a love story interwoven with terrorism. For what I could gather this seems more like a love story. Anyhow I am not expecting a mind blowing movie experience from KJo, but I sure hope its not a total blah. Also I think one should watch any movie with an open mind, without any preconceived notion, and if you're going to have a pre-determined mind about a movie or an actor then its best not to watch it. This is just my personal opinion btw.
And more than anything about the movie, I can't wait to see SRK and Kajol back together after a hiatus. Eeeeeeekkkk..yes thats a total fangirl squeal.
Anyhow nice post Rox.
