Sonam: Rani has variety to show unlike Kajol!
Even though the only two films that Sonam has acted in, SAAWARIYA and DELHI 6, proved to be no great shakes at the box-office, Anil's darling daughter has no qualms about accepting that it's the critical appreciation of her roles that matter most. And that, she has received in abundance from all and sundry!
As if justifying her belief that being an actress matters more than a star, Sonam in an interview to a leading film journal was very forthright in coming out in defense of her SAWAARIYA co-star, Rani Mukerjee. When asked to pick her favourite actress, Sonam (very undiplomatically) took Rani's name. Her plea was that Rani has done far more varied roles than her more popular and successful cousin, Kajol. Sonam says that in her long career, Rani has done roles which are in stark contrast to each other. Like in KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, she was sexy, whereas in YUVA and SAATHIYA she was plain and simple. Then she has a BLACK to her credit, a role that is unparalleled even today. Sonam goes on to add that despite the fact that people are writing off Rani, she requires just one hit to get right back to the top.
Right said Sonam, there are few in the industry as forthright as you (just like your ageless father) and here's looking forward to seeing you once again with your favourite actress Rani!
