Jodhaa Akbar nominated for BAFTA awards

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar has been nominated in the Best Foreign Film category for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.

The film stars Hrithik Roshan as the Mughal emperor Akbar, and Aishwarya Rai as his Hindu wife, Jodhaa.

The film has already bagged many awards in the festival circut - including the Audience Award as the Best Foreign Film at the 32nd Sao Paulo International Film Festival. And the Best Film Grand Prix and Best Actor award for Hrithik Roshan at the Film Festival of Muslim Cinema Golden Minbar in Kazan, Russia, this year.

If 'Jodhaa Akbar' wins this award, it will be yet another honour for the magnum opus after the honours it received at the Golden Mibar festival in Kazan, Russia, said Gowariker, who is currently shooting for What's your Rashee? with Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja.

He said noted film critic Mike Goodridge of Screen International has conveyed his appreciation for the movie saying,"I loved it, I could have easily watched another hour!"

The final nominations list for the BAFTA awards will be announced on January 15 with the ceremony itself being staged at the Royal Opera house in London on February 8.

^Like all Ashutosh Gowariker movies, it was too long. But with what we had this year, I think it was one of the better ones.

Oh yea, it was definitely one of the better ones. Its just that I could not relate to Aish's or Hrithik's characters. They did not fit the bill for me. They had too much of the "star" factor, thats why. But Ashustosh's movies always try to be as close to reality/history as possible....ofcourse there's some cinematic liberties taken here and there, but his movies are worth watching overall.
