To be fair to her, I think it is edgy. And I like that. Retro does come back in style nowadays, but this look is more about I think trying to make a fashion statement. 80s clothes back in Hindi films are not something to laud, but it wasn't quite as interesting as this. It was more like let's wear ill fitted and tailored clothes alot.
It is not a boring safe gown Sonam is wearing. By the way I am sure most people agree with your opinion, but I thought it was a daring and bold move to make. She is able to pull it off I feel. Maybe I am just feeling like being contradictory today though.

I absolutely love Sonam's dressing sense, and I'm really glad she wore this dress. Like everyone else said, only she could pull off something like that. I like the fact that she tires different styles and implements clothing you would normally see on the runway to actually wearing them to events. Most bollywood actress don't know how to dress, and the few that do know how to dress play it to safe. Sonam thinks outside the box when it come to fashion and I love that about her!

^To play devil's advocate, I will present the opposite opinion.
What is up with the weird holes randomly placed? It looks more experimental and while you may like something on a fashion cover, it may not work in real life. This dress is like half a salwar kameez and half of a futuristic space suit. That could be a criticism of it if you want. But of course I still stand by my original opinion that it is edgy, and I love it on her.

Hey, no one is angry I swear. You did not have to send the PM at all. You were voicing your opinion without dissing another star. Alot of people are not able to do that by the way. On a thread on High Heel Confidential about this dress, I think about 60% of commenters agreed with your opinion and I know the Bombaybitch fashion person did not like it either. People are always trying not to offend people and be too politically correct, and your opinion is not unfounded either. To be honest I would have loved her to wear something more like Oscar de la Renta on the red carpet too. But then we are too used to seeing stars in Bollywood come badly dressed that it is not unreasonable to hold Sonam to higher standards. I definitely see what you are getting it. Seriously, you are awesome, and you have no reason to apologize goshdarnit. And personally I like diversity of opinion it makes the world a cool place as long as we are being respectful about it.😊👍🏼

I don't like the dress and i don't think Sonam is making the look work. She appears as if she is trying too hard to portray herself as a fashionista, her style seems contrived to me..sry2say

It's a couture piece from Anamika Khanna's collection, for which she is the muse.
Yes it may not be the normal, pretty little dress that other actresses wear, but this is couture. It's supposed to be unique, different and a one off piece.
The dress is designed in such a way because Anamika's couture collection was based on the traditional dhoti - being given a modern twist.
Couture pieces are made for the red carpet, not for everyones daily wear.
She is a complete fashionista IMHO. She's aware of what suits her, the latest designers and the trends. On top of that she's in much demand with the fashion industry, which at the moment needs abit of help with it's western wear.
Actresses need to stop wearing the same dress worn by 5 others, and find their own style.
