Varanasi: Bollywood beauties Kareena Kapoor and Celina Jaitley are all set to sizzle the UP Assembly elections in the temple town of Varanasi.

The two actors have been roped in by Congress candidate Mohammed Sheikh Shamim to "charm voters".

While former Miss India Universe Celina will be in the city on Tuesday, Kareena is likely to reach Varanasi on April 26, sources close to the party candidate told UNI.

Celina along with senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla will embark on a roadshow in the Varanasi (North) Assembly segments, especially the Muslim-dominated localities.

Earlier, Kareena was slated to embark on a roadshow in support of Shamim on April 21 but could not do so due to prior film commitments.

Meanwhile, a National Students Union India (NSUI) executive member from Haryana Sandip Singh said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will also embark on his roadshow for the constituencies going to polls in the sixth-phase on May 3 from Varanasi.

The party star campaigner is likely to start off the crowd-pulling roadshows from Varanasi on April 28 or 29 and will tour various parts of East UP extensively.

To be treated like a Rani, the actresses gotta behave like one!
Omar Qureshi

Sridevi, in recent memory, stays the regal image of female propriety. To date, stories swirl in my head about trembling producers waiting outside her car, van or make-up room; wondering if 'ma'am' was 'ready'. Even Numero Uno heroes were fearful of this powerful actress. In fact, more often than not, she supposedly dictated who should be in her movies – not vice versa. She was the 'hero'. Even Boney Kapoor, rumouredly with signing amounts in bag, had to wait for 'dates', we used to hear. The tender side was only for her family and the closest of her friends. And they swore by her. To the rest she was Queen Bee.

And it made the other girls cringe… 'How does she manage to do it?' Juhi used to wonder in amazement. 'She's incredible' Madhuri vetted the same. And they were only two of many who voiced it. In fact, Juhi used to wonder aloud, 'You know, I'm going to stop being so friendly and accessible. People come and talk to me as casually as if I was their college mate' she giggled. 'Now I'll be distant and aloof, hmmphh!'

But the lovely Juhi could be nothing but her affable self …

Madhuri was a lot closer to Sri in terms of commanding a 'stand-off', but yet she let her guard down with people she considered her close circle. And though not many could mistake la Dixit for their 'buddy', she still warmed people's hearts with that 1000-watt smile. More midway between chirpy Chawla and superpower Sri.

It made me think … several times over. 'Power' was, I guess, what a female star 'commanded'. By force or sheer inherent nature. To be treated like a Rani one had to behave like one. After all, 'attitude' is aspirational. Haughtiness is regal. And aloofness is the hallmark of royalty.

The demeanour has to 'freeze' the proletariat. The junta adores ladies in ivory towers. They have not much respect for the vacuum salesman's wife next door, not even if she looks like Nicole Kidman – I kid man not.

Maybe the 80s were different and the 90s more so. But attitudes stay the same. Like the friendly Juhi, we've had the supercool Raveena, the sexy Urmila and the delectable Divya Bharati, also the charming Preity Zinta – not to say they couldn't freeze the 'trespassers' when needed.

But no one did it like Kajol! The 'trespassers will be prosecuted' expression was lit in neon on the incredibly mobile face of this wonderful star. No one dared come within a mile of Kadz if she didn't want it. Much like her mom Tanuja - beautiful and distant to all except friends and family.

Yet another class act has always been the beautiful Hema Malini. Dignity personified and charm exemplified.

Jaya Bachchan, too, commands a respect on sheer persona.

Among the current lot, sensational Rani Mukherjee has what it takes to keep junta at bay. A true rani of her ilk, no one dares cross the line or joke with her. That's 'queendom'.

And the 'princessdom' belongs to Kareena Kapoor. Haughty, classy and with blue Bollywood blood in her veins – it comes naturally to her to behave in that 'off with their heads' fashion, for any 'offender'. But at heart, as simple as the princess (and the pea) story.

That's the ingredient of feline stardom methinks … like the Bipasha song, 'don't touch me soniye' … the plea of royalty?

Kareena changes designers

Shimmering: Kareena in Aki Narula's creation in Don
Manish Malhotra has always designed for Kareena Kapoor's many on-screen avatars, but things are about to change.

We love MM and everything, but a change is always good, no?

Bebo seems to agree, for the smartcat has gone ahead and roped in Aki Narula to design her look in Yash Raj Films' Tashan instead of her good friend.

For those of you who don't know, Narula is the man behind Bunty Aur Babli and Don's superlative styling, among other films.

Hopefully, he will bring about a dramatic change of look in Bebo.

Mumbai, April 27 : Bollywood's hot duo Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur began shooting for their latest film "Geet" in Manali this week. The two stars landed here late Tuesday with noted choreographer Saroj Khan.

Their off-screen romance keeps the gossip columns abuzz but they haven't had the same impact on screen. So far they have appeared together in "Chup Chup Ke", "36 China Town" and "Fida" but none could bring the desired results.

Right now they are pinning their hope on "Milenge Milenge".

HONEST PAYER: Hrithik paid a whopping Rs 15.1 crore rupees as taxes.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has emerged the highest individual tax-payer in the country for 2006-07. Hrithik, one of the most successful actors last year, paid a whopping Rs 15.1 crore rupees as taxes. Close on his heels is Shah Rukh Khan who paid Rs14 crore.

Bollywood actors have consistently been India's top income tax payers for many years. Others to have shelled out over a crore as taxes include Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and John Abraham.

It's the film industry that takes the cake in filling up government coffers. Shah Rukh Khan has consistently been among the highest tax payers for years and in 2006- '07, sources said, he paid Rs 14 crore in taxes—almost double what he paid in the previous financial year.

Akshay Kumar paid Rs 6.6 crore for 2006-' 07 while Kareena gave the department Rs 2.9 crore. John Abraham paid a little over Rs 1 crore and yesteryear star Jeetendra ended up paying Rs 1 crore.

As for cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar paid Rs 5.75 crore. Interestingly, none of the top businessmen who snap up billion-dollar companies contribute much in their individual capacity to government coffers.

From dressing Beyonce to wanting to outfit Priyanka Chopra, chatting up fashion whiz Tommy Hilfiger.

On his recent Mumbai visit…
I came back to New York feeling greatly inspired from my recent travels to India, especially Mumbai, where the buzz and energy are similar to that of New York. I was reminded of the Indian sense of individualism in the bold style of dress, the rich colours, the rich aromas, flavours of the cuisines and the local art.

On Indian celebs he'd love to dress…
I had a great time dressing Malaika Arora-Khan – she is a beautiful and elegant woman who wore everything so well. I would love to dress her again. As well as Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and John Abraham who are three other very talented personalities.

On his most defining moment…
One of my most defining moments was in 1985 when I first saw my name on the billboard in Times Square along side Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis. I was the "next great unknown" designer, and it created an incredible buzz around my brand.

On one person he was thrilled to design for…
I really enjoyed working with Beyonce – everything I designed for her was worn with such stylish grace and timeless elegance. Not only is she extremely talented and beautiful, but she is sophisticated, intelligent and charming.

On another talent he'd love to have…
I would love to be a rockstar – I would love to experience the rush of performing on stage for thousands of people!

On his muse…
Music has always been an inspiration to me, both in my personal life and in my career as a fashion designer. My rockstar muses have been the ones with very distinct and influential looks, Mick Jagger had his unique sense of style; Brian Jones was wearing smocks and frocks; Charlie Watts was always crisply tailored. Those guys changed the way that people thought about fashion.

Ajay Devgan in Shahid-Kareena's 'Train' ?

By Abid

We had told you last week that according to our Manali based sources, the unit of Imtiaz Ali's Shahid-Kareena starrer is now in the picturesque hill station. We also told you that the movie has been titled 'Train'. Here is more .

Imtiaz has picturised some important scenes on the lead pair in the famous tourist location of Naggar. However, the cloud cover is playing havoc with the shooting schedule.

While important members of the cast are staying at the famous Span Resorts, the technical side of the film's unit has been put up at the Ambassador Resort. And when we talked to them, we heard a very interesting bit. According to them Ajay Devgan is also expected to join the shooting soon, as he plays an important role in the Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision venture.

The director of the film Imtiaz Ali was not available for comments, despite our attempts.
