Don Vs Don?

Are there plans to get Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan together for the third part of the famous film?

GAYATRI JAYARAMAN Times News Network

Is the greatest coming together of past and present Bollywood in the making? Will Don past and Don present take to the screen together in the biggest face-off of two reigning superstars since Sholay (the original)?

Bollywood is abuzz that Shah Rukh Khan will play Don and Amitabh Bachchan will play his nemesis-turned-mentor in a cameo either in Don — The Chase Begins Again or possibly in a third film called Don vs Don.

But Shah Rukh Khan denies the rumour. "No," he says to the possibility of that coming together, and refuses to comment on whether that is because talks failed or whether the idea is too tough to broach because of the much-rumoured and muchdenied stand-off between him and Amitabh Bachchan.

Director Farhan Akhtar, however, plays as much party to the rumour as the rest of us. "Yes, I've been hearing about this rumour myself, but it is not true," Farhan says, all the while hesitant to comment on whether talks were broached but fell through, or have not yet materialised. Bachchan was not available for comment being tied up with upcoming wedding preparations in the family.

Even as industry waits to see how, if at all, this seemingly impossible coming together happens, the question at the top of everyone's mind is — which Don will walk away winner?

SRK's bookish pride

We're told that Shah Rukh Khan and the KBC 3 team had a wrap-up party on the sets on the day the last episode was shot.

Interestingly, the guests of the finale episode, Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra-Kareena Kapoor, also stayed back to join the party.

A source informs that apart from cutting cake and popping the bubbly, SRK also gifted books to each and every member of the team.

"Shah Rukh has worked very closely with the Synergy team and grown very fond of them, so on the last day he gifted every member of the team a different book.

He actually took the effort to find out who likes what before selecting the books for them," says the source.

Sallu takes a break

Another interesting tidbit about the grand finale episode is the break links. Apparently, SRK asked each of his special guests to deliver a line before going into the break (during the show) in a different style.

So while PC 'took a break' Meena Kumari style, Salman surprised SRK by doing an imitation of the Big B.

A source reveals, "Salman's style of going into the break was the cutest and had the entire audience in splits.

He first mimicked Mr Bachchan's style of going into a break, and then did it the way Shah Rukh does it on the show. It was really funny!"

We're also told that Salman didn't miss a single chance to pull Katrina's leg throughout the shoot.

"He kept telling Shah Rukh to ask Katrina questions strictly in Hindi, since that is her favourite language!"

Priyanka sings Bebo's tunes

We all know that PC and Bebo share extremely thanda vibes (and Kareena had admitted as much on Koffee with Karan), but there's no doubt now that these two girls are really good actresses.

Apparently, they became the best of friends on the finale show. They also feigned stunned expressions on discovering that they'd come on the show wearing black outfits.

"It was a coincidence that they were wearing the same colour. However, between the two of them, Kareena seemed more serious and focussed on answering the questions," says the khabru.

Interestingly, Priyanka stunned SRK and the audience by singing a few lines of Yeh Mera Dil from Don. "Shah Rukh was really impressed with her rendition. He didn't know PC could sing so well!"

Sallu's idol mind

Salman Khan waited for three hours on the sets of Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, so that he could match steps with his idol, Dharmendra

Sandipan Dalal

Imagine Salman Khan jumping with joy at the sight of Dharamendra stepping out of his car. Well, this what the unpredictable actor did recently at Film City where he was filming for the title track of Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om (OMS). Salman, who shook a leg with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt, waited for over three hours so that he could share a frame with Dharmendra.

Sources say that Dharamendra was scheduled to make a solo appearance but Khan pestered Farah to have him dance with the veteran actor. Farah Khan says, "Salman was done by 6 pm. As soon as he got to know that Dharamendra was expected on the sets, he stayed back and waited for over three hours for him."

Apparently, Salman is extremely fond of the veteran actor and worshipped him during his growing years. He chatted with Dharmendra and even imitated his trademark step. Later even Saif joined the duo on the floor while the shot was being canned. An eyewitness says, "We didn't know that Salman is so fond of Dharmendra. They were having so much of fun. You had to see them dancing."

However, roping in Dharmendra wasn't an easy task. Farah could convince the actor only after two long meetings. A source says, "Dharamendra wasn't too keen, initially. But Farah was hell-bent on having him in her film as he is a legend. After much cajoling, he agreed."

Even Shah Rukh is known to have made few frantic calls to his friends in the industry when Farah wanted to have a star-studded (quite literally) title song for the film. Another source close to SRK adds, "Shah Rukh, Salman and Saif are a camp in the making. They bond well and are ready to help out each other."

King Khan rules beyond Himalayas

Lhasa (Tibet), April 16, 2007
First Published: 03:10 IST(17/4/2007)
Last Updated: 04:34 IST(17/4/2007)

Holding a Tibetan prayer wheel in one hand and an audio CD of Shah Rukh Khan's best in the other, 86-year-old Tshering Lama breaks into a smile, revealing decaying, brown teeth. "We just love him," Lama says of the Bollywood hero as she leaves a shop in downtown Lhasa, clutching the CD she had longed to buy for long.

The octogenarian neither understands nor speaks Hindi. Yet she has lost count of the films she has seen featuring SRK. "My favourites are Dil Se and Baazigar," she says.

King Khan's popularity has breached the near-impregnable Himalayan wall, travelling to the barren, rolling mountains of Tibet.

Khan is almost omnipresent in the Tibet Autonomous Region's capital city. Shops selling motley household items peddle pirated CDs/DVDs of his films, his songs are the ringtones of every third cellphone, and his posters adorn almost every hair-cutting salon.

Tibetans say the Kaun Banega Crorepati host is the most popular person in Tibet after the revered Dalai Lama.

"Not many people know of Amitabh Bachchan here. Shah Rukh is our hero," says Jiang Wu, an employee of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lhasa. Born to a Han Chinese father and a Tibetan mother, Jiang has at least half-a-dozen popular numbers of SRK in her mobile phone as ringtones.

"When do you think Shah Rukh will visit Tibet?" asks Tashi Takhla, a curio shop owner. Is King Khan listening?

19th Apr 2007 09.01 IST
By Agencies

As the third season of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati comes to an end tonight, joining Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in bidding adieu to the TV viewers will be a galaxy of stars from the tinsel town.

The grand finale episode of KBC will see the leading glamorous ladies of the silver screen Kareena Kapoor with Priyanka Chopra and one of the hottest pair of tinsel town, Salman Khan with Katrina Kaif come together on the KBC hot seat.

Kareena's appearance on the KBC along with Priyanka, Salman and Katrina will be the first time ever that these Bollywood heartthrobs are coming together on a game show.

It will be SRK's first tryst with Kareena and Priyanka after Don .

Sources in Star Plus said that what contributes to the 'fun filled atmosphere on the final episode of the KBC is the wit and whacky humour displayed by Salman.

"Salman will leave the audiences rolling in splits of laughter with his wit and wacky humour. The episode also has Priyanka exercising her vocal chords and belting out melodies that will leave audiences speechless," the sources said.

Talking about her experience on the show, Priyanka said, "KBC was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed myself to the hilt. Sitting across Shahrukh can be quite nerve wrecking, but he completely put me at ease.

"In fact he was completely driven up the wall because Kareena and myself would keep debating which answer to opt for and always came up with different options. The fun was complete with Salman and Katrina on the show, where all of us did the last segment together," she said.

The ravishing Kareena will donate her prize money to St. Anthony's old age home and mount Mary's Bandra, and Priyanka will contribute her prize money to Nari and the Utkal Bipanaa Sahayata Samiti while Katrina will donate her prize-money to the Kovalam Charitable Trust and Salman will donate his money for his soon to be opened Salman Khan Foundation (SKF), the sources said.

The final episode of the KBC will have SRK revisit some of the "magical and fun filled moments during the previous episodes.

In fact, in his inimitable style, SRK will come up with the khamakhan awards with the various humorous moments on the show divided into various categories like Khan ki khoj (some inventions on the show like topi, gale milna etc)', krazy kiya re (some unforgettable moments with some unforgettable contestants), kyunki hum sab kalakaar hain (some entertaining performances on KBC) and khullam khulla pyar karenge (some romantic moments between SRK and female contestants).

The celebrity guests, who will be clad in stunningly black outfits, will announce the nominees and the winners of khamakhan awards.

It will be a glittering finale to what has been one of the most talked about shows on the Indian television scene in recent months.

Caught between birthday & wedding party

MAYUR SHEKHAR JHA
TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2007 01:20:19 AM>

NEW DELHI: It's a busy week for the glitterati and the chatterati. On the face of it, its Bollywood's biggest wedding and the birthday bash of India's most successful businessman. But if you scratch the surface, it's all about power and politics.

As the Abhi-Ash wedding functions began on Wednesday to be culminated in the marriage on April 20, Mukesh Ambani's 50th birthday celebrations at Jamnagar on April 19 is turning out to be a big draw as well.

On the guest list are the who's who of Indian industry, politics and Bollywood, with marquee names such as Bharti chairman Sunil Mittal, commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath, and film star Shahrukh Khan. Given the fact that the Bachchans and Ambani Sr are widely perceived to be in different camps, comparisons of the guest list and the attendees for both the events are inevitable.

While the Bachchans are extremely tight-lipped about the 'select' guest list comprising 100-150 odd names, the list of sure-shot attendees include Maharashtra chief minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackrey, in addition to the obvious guests such as industrialist Anil Ambani UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

On the other hand, it's obvious that Mukesh Ambani's 50th birthday, billed as a "private celebration", will not be the low-key affair the family has so far maintained. Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan and the other Khan, Aamir, are likely to attend Mr Ambani's birthday. Interestingly, these two Khans are not among the invitees at the Bachchans.

The highlight of the birthday bash at Jamnagar will be a Rakeysh Mehra (of Rang De Basanti fame) directed movie on Mr Ambani's life and achievements commissioned by his wife Nita. Talking of Mr Ambani's achievements, the movie makes a mention of ET's Corporate Leader of the Year Award conferred on him in 2006. The music director of the movie is noted classical musician Pandit Jasraj while the voice-overs are by the two Khans — Shahrukh and Aamir.
