So I have been following the show on and off and every now and then stumble upon shots where a contestant or two would use the phrase “according to me.”
Needless to say, I subconsciously overlooked its usage by various contestants in the first half of the show, but the more I think, the more prominent the phrase and its usage has become. Its prominence in the popular culture is noteworthy.
I discussed this phrase’s usage with my friends from the US and the UK, and none of them seemed to validate it or its general usage in daily conversations.
Is this an Indian thing? I mean, how difficult is it to say “in my opinion,” or “I believe...,” or “it appears to me that,” or any of those phrases in place of “according to me?”
Can someone shed some light on this? I’m unable to fathom this distortion.
I think this comes from thinking in Hindi and saying it in English. According to me must come from “mere hisaab se”.

Sounds like a fair explanation. Goes in line with locopoco’s take on things. ❤️

You are right. I revisited this topic because in yesterday’s episode Paras said the same thing (when the whole brouhaha settled down and Aly Goni read out the rules to Paras).
He said ACCORDING TO ME, followed by MERE HISAAB SE.
That was pretty insightful, Tulip.
