Chapter 3

The court was adjourned everyone left to finish their tasks. JB and SB decided to leave Pratap alone as they knew he was in full planning mode while Shakti stayed back. He remained clam while observing his elder brother who was looking straight ahead at the corridor full of people going about their work but he knew he was thinking about Ajabde Baisa or he should call her Bhabisa- everyone in the family knew about Pratap's feelings for the princess of Bijolia even the people of Chittor and Bijolia were aware of it so for Rani DheerBai to fix her son's marriage with Rajkumari Ajabde was unacceptable but moreover it was highly inappropriate.

Pratap was thinking about the moments he had spent with his Ajabde. Everyone from his mother to Chetak knew he loved Ajabde more than anything and wished to marry her but Rani Dheer Bai's step to getting her son married to Ajabde was a call for war. He did not wish to hurt the younger son of Ranaji who in a sense was his brother but his actions proved otherwise- Ever since Jagmal could wield a sword he had been misusing and abusing it and his status as a prince over the servants and commoners whose voice would be unheard in his presence as he would spill tales that would free him of all crimes and he would be saved by his mother except for one time when he had hurt Ajabde which led to a massive showdown between the brothers and gave birth to the tensions between father and son.

FLASHBACK

Ajabde was visiting the Eklingji temple for a special puja that her mother wished her to perform so she went along with her entourage to the temple located on the outskirts of Bijolia. Kunwar Pratap knew of her trip from his spies and decided to surprise her as he had been busy in a battle with a neighbouring state so along with Shakti (who just wanted to get away from the palace) he went to the same temple unaware that his younger brother had already left for the same place. Kunwar Jagmal was a shrewd fellow who was far more evil than his mother but he also knew his shortcomings which meant that there was no way he could be ever be declared as the successor to the throne despite his mother's promises so he decided to take matter into his own hands. He knew about Bijolia's princess prediction as told by Raj Purohitji apparently her virtues and strong devotion gave her the strength and also made her a highly eligible bride- as the priest had stated whoever she chose to marry would be immortalised and be remembered as the brave warrior of the Rajputs

Now Jagmal had no intentions of being the brave warrior all he wanted was to marry her so that he would get the throne for him Ajabde was nothing but a mere tool to be used and once he was done with her he would get rid of her like he did with the others. So when he heard about her trip he decided to take action and contacted some dacoits who would help him get the princess

Ajabde was having a premonition of something happening during her trip so when her father suggested she take extra guards with her she agreed without a fuss. Throughout the journey she kept on reading her journals and then said a prayer to calm herself but to no avail. Her heart was bothered about something and the only one who could calm it down was busy in a battle- she always wondered what he saw in her? From their first meeting to the point where they confessed their feelings to each other Ajabde felt she was dreaming but Kunwar Pratap always managed to make her believe that it was all true- from all the gifts to the kisses which would make her blush just thinking about them.

The camp had been set up for the princess and guards were also told to be extra vigilant because the area was famous for dacoit attacks though there was a security check post not far from where they were camped out but still it would take some time for the back up to arrive. Ajabde was tired from the day's journey so she went straight to bed before she closed her eyes she felt like someone was watching her but did not see anyone thinking of it as a result of over-thinking she closed her eyes trying to sleep. But a movement and a rustling sound woke her up to a much welcome sight- Kunwar Pratap was standing by her bedside with some flowers in his hands

Kunwar Pratap she spoke his name so softly and reverently that all he could do was stare at her. She looked beautiful without any jewellery and open hair that fell over her shoulders while she was dressed simply. He sat down by her side and moved her hair to one side and pressed his lips to hers. Ajabde relaxed in his embrace while he broke the kiss but kept her close

Ajabde: How have you been?

Pratap: I'm fine Ajab. I did not even get any serious injuries in the battlefield looks like someone was praying hard for my safety

Ajabde: I'm sure your RaniMa must have been the one

Pratap: And what about you Ajab? (Making her blush) and she slowly nodded her head

Ajabde: You will be joining us for the prayers tomorrow morning right but before that tells me did you have something to eat?

Pratap: No we just reached this place and decided to come straight to you so

Ajabde: You should have told me. Now wait here while I get some food for you. We? Who else has come with you?

Before Pratap could say a word Shakti announced his presence: That would be me Rajkumari sa- Kunwar Shakti at your service though I would love to get some food in me before I do any work because you see we have been riding for a long time and we did not have any breaks in between as well so that made me hungry

Ajabde and Pratap had moved away from each other and she got up telling both the brothers that she would arrange food for both of them. She comes back with food and requests them to have their dinner. Pratap and Shakti finish their dinner and walk out of the tent to wash them-selves up before going to bed

Shakti: Dada Bhai please tell me you are going to propose to Rajkumarisa

Pratap looks at his brother astonished and continues washing his hands

Shakti: Please do tell her that you intend on marrying her and soon as I must tell you she cooks such a tasty meal that I can go on eating and eating and eating forever. Have you tried the sweets she makes Bhai? I love it when she makes laddoos though I have to share them with Vikram but still her hand-made sweets are worth fighting for so as I was saying when will you propose marriage to her?

Pratap releases a breath: Bhai first I need to take permission from our parents and then her parents and only then will I be able to propose her

Shakti: But why? She is the one you intend on marrying so it makes sense that you ask her first and then go to the parents besides everyone knows both of you like each other

A scream tears through the sky and both brothers run back to the camp where the dacoits had attacked. The dacoits were no match for the two princes but one of them threw a burning ember straight at Ajabde's tent which caught fire

Ajabde was trapped inside as the guards told her to stay still but then she saw the fire and tried to make an escape but could not as she was surrounded by fire and the smoke was rising making it difficult for her to breathe Kun...Kunwar Pratap was the last thing she said before everything went dark

Chapter 4

Rana Uday Singh could not believe his senses when he was informed about the marriage proposal sent by his third wife to Bijolia- was she out of her mind he thought angrily. Everyone knew Ajabde and Pratap liked each other so there was no reason for her to even think about arranging a marriage with Jagmal besides Jagmal needed help some sort of treatment that would calm his over utilised useless brain and marriage to him meant a slow painful death that he (Ranaji) would not even wish for his enemies and here Ajabde was his very good friend's daughter. He needed to speak to Rao Mamrakh about increasing Ajabde's security because he knew Jagmal would do anything to get what he wants and he prayed that Pratap heard the news and took some action as he (Ranaji) was bound by promises he had made in his vulnerable state

Jaiwanta Baiji was worried about Ajabde not only because her son cared for her but also she happened to be the daughter of her very good friend. Hansa had suffered a lot before Ajabde came into their lives- she had suffered miscarriages though it was found that someone was deliberately killing her children as Hansa's marriage to Rao Mamrakh was one based on love, respect and companionship and not a political alliance like hers and Rana Uday Singh's marriage. Hansa had been the happiest woman when she first saw her daughter even Rao Mamrakh was ecstatic - he had announced for a celebration for the birth of his first born that lasted for 3 days straight followed by her naming ceremony a grand affair that saw the most prominent people gather together in Bijolia.

DheerBai was angry at the commoner's daughter- she had refused the marriage alliance and even returned the Shagun. That girl has some nerves rejecting my son she thought but no matter what happens she will get married in this family even if it meant hurting people close to her DheerBai thought. While DheerBai was lost in her thoughts her useless son was fuming on being rejected by the princess. Kunwar Jagmal was known for his mental instability and evil tendencies he had hurt a lot of people and enjoyed hurting women and children the most so none of the women or children were allowed anywhere near him after his tendencies were discovered by his elder brothers who had rescued a young girl from his clutches before he could hurt her badly. Now Jagmal was planning something far more horrendous for the Bijolia princess - his intentions were not to gain the title of the "Brave Warrior" rather he wanted to covet the most precious thing of Pratap

Hansa Bai was a woman who hated confrontations and her lovable nature was something that attracted Rao Mamrakh to her as he was a warrior and had seen way too much bloodshed in his life but when he met Hansa she soothed his raging nerves and gave him shelter from all the worst effects of war. They had their own share of hardships facing all those miscarriages and there came a moment when he thought he would lose his wife but then Ajabde came into their lives and brought with her good fortune for everyone all around her. Soon after their son Balwant was born but it was Patta who completed their family - his father had died protecting Rao Mamrakh and his mother had already passed away in childbirth so when young Patta was supposed to be sent to live with his relatives Ajabde came forward and announced him as her brother everyone accepted and Patta became a part of the Punwar family.

Update time folks!!!

Chapter 5

Kunwar Balwant and his elder brother Patta were in a Gurukul receiving training in the art of warfare and other subjects but when a messenger came with an important from their father both brothers packed their belongings and took off for their home. The message just read "Come Back. You are needed here" they understood that a serious situation must have arisen in Bijolia and that is why the message was sent but it was not the content but the ink used that signalled them the emergency- whenever their mother or sister wrote to them they used a light shade of red ink but their father used the darkest shade which also symbolised blood thus both brothers did not waste any time in taking off for Bijolia. Back in Bijolia the Raj Purohitji had informed HansaBai ji about the special puja being organised in the Eklingji temple situated on the outskirts of Bundi and he requested her to take part in the puja as all the other royal ladies will be in attendance with their daughters as well. Hansa Baiji took the request to her husband who knew about the puja but was wary for its location as Bundi had been observing uprisings due to Surtan Singh's lack of moral behaviour and total dictatorship attitude towards the people and also Rana Uday Singh ji had requested him to raise his daughter's protection after her refusal of Dheer Bai's proposal but he also knew that this puja was a big deal for all the ladies so he wrote to his sons calling them back from their Gurukul and arranged a specially hand-picked team of guards as the safety of his family was of utmost importance

Jaiwanta Bai was preparing for their trip to the Eklingji temple when Shakti came in and after greeting her sat on her bed and looked at her with hopeful eyes as she was giving out directions for the stuff that needed to be packed

JB: Kunwar Shakti so did Sajja Baiji refuse your request to not to come with us for the puja

Shakti: Badi Ma you know everything and yet you ask me (he pouts a little and nods his head) but if you agreed then everything will be fine you know

JB: Hmmm even then does that mean you and your brother won't be joining us

Shakti: No Badi Ma it would just mean that Kunwar Pratap and Kunwar Shakti won't be joining you

JB: but Sakha Veer and his allies will join us for the trip

Shakti: You know Badi Ma Bundi is in unrest over Surtan Singh's decisions which makes it a highly dangerous place and over that a puja being organised under these circumstances only points towards

JB: You think something is being planned under the guise of this puja

Shakti: I have a strong feeling and that is Sakha Veer needs to go and not Kunwar Pratap

JB: Alright fine you and your brother do not need to join us but on the day of the puja you will be present I don't care if you join us under disguise but you will join us

Kunwar Pratap comes inside and says: We will be there on the day of the puja Rani Maa. Also this time the number of guards has been increased for safety reasons.

Jaiwanta Bai looks at her son and nods her head realising the seriousness of the situation but when SB joins them with a smile on her face and twinkling eyes she prays to her Kanhaji to protect their family from all harm

Chapter 6

Surtan Singh was a man with ambitions but a lazy attitude - for him three things were of utmost importance - wealth, money and power. He used his parents relationship with Mewar to gain access to the main court of the council and influenced some of the members who were exactly like him though he failed to bring Rana Uday Singh and his followers to his side this job was beautifully accomplished by Uday Singh's third wife the very beautiful Rani DheerBai whom he lusted after and had also made his intentions very clear. Now seated in his room Surtan Singh was planning another attack on those rebels who were creating unnecessary uprisings in his state. He had to make wealth and the best way was to make his subjects work for him after all he was the ruler and now that he knew the council was busy with Sakha Veer he could freely terrorise the people and make them do their bidding. Unfortunately he had no idea that Sakha Veer was coming to make a personal visit and set an example out of him for everyone to see

The Eklingji temple situated on the outskirts of Bundi was surrounded by dense forests and hills which was the hiding place of the rebels that consisted of the common people as well as soldiers from the army who were disgusted at their ruler and his ideologies. The soldiers turned rebels played a big hand in creating the uprisings distractions so that their true plan of getting their hands on Surtan Singh could proceed but they had received a major setback when the remaining soldiers their own brothers had massacred some innocents who were trying to escape making the rebels cause go more firm and now a puja was being organised. This puja was the upfront show of devotion from all the rebels who planned a mass uprising on the night before the puja - all the ladies were well aware that if their plan failed then the only option left would be Jauhar which in itself would be a huge stain on the council who had done nothing to help them. All the men were prepared to fight till their dying breaths for the sake of freedom and the day of the puja they would achieve it at all costs.

Rawat Chundawat had his spies spread all over Bundi to keep an eye out for the royal ladies of Mewar and Bijolia. His position was to make sure that Ranaji made the correct decisions for Mewar but he also knew that he had made some wrong decisions in his personal life that gave rise to the birth of Sakha Veer and his gang (he was so proud of Pratap, Shakti and their friends that when they established the new kingdom for themselves he had personally gifted Pratap with his sword - which not only symbolised his love but also his blessings for his future with Ajabde whom he considered his niece). It was time to inform Ranaji about the affairs of the kingdom as his over-bearing wife would be there to make sure he did not perform his duties as was required.

Chapter 7

Ajabde sat in her room performing her daily prayers when the daasi entered. As soon as she finished her prayer daasi informed her about the trip she would be taking with her mother bringing a smile on her face but then as soon as she heard the destination a frown came up - Bundi she thought was facing an internal threat with Surtan Singh exploiting the innocent people but she had to go with her mother for a puja which would happen on the outskirts and there will be a lot of security as many prominent royal ladies would be making this trip.

She told the daasi to start making the preparations while she went to speak to her mother. On her way she heard the news of the arrival of her brothers making her ecstatic- she ran to greet them as they had been sent to the Gurukul to take training in the art of warfare and learn politics. Seeing all her children together smiling brought a smile on Hansa Bai's face that welcomed her sons and told them to freshen up before having their food.

HB: Ajabde beta please be ready for the trip as we need to leave early tomorrow morning

Ajabde: Ji Maa. I have already told one of the daasi to make the necessary arrangements and I will check on them now

HB nods her head and leaves for the kitchen while Ajabde goes back to her room when a servant enters bringing a message for her. The message was from Kunwar Jagmal who was proposing marriage to her again. She took the letter and placed it with the others - she had been receiving letters from the youngest prince for some time now and she was fed up especially when she had already refused his proposal. He is been highly delusional if he thinks I'll marry him she thought

Subhagyawati: who was the letter from Baisa?

Ajabde: Subhagyawati when did you arrive?

Subhagyawati: when you were busy getting rid of the letter. Another one from you admirer she teased

Ajabde: It is from Kunwar Jagmal. He is getting really irritating now to be honest I have already refused his proposal - did not even accept the Shagun sent by his mother and here he is sending me letter after letter

Subhagyawati: why don't you let Kunwar Pratap know about this? I'm sure he would figure out a way to stop Kunwar Jagmal

Ajabde: No. He must be busy with all the political tensions going around and I don't want to add anymore troubles for him. Anyways you have done your packing for the trip

Subhagyawati: Yes Yes your highness I'm done with the packing and came here to help you with yours. Let's see which dress do you want to take with you for the main puja now?

Both the girls smiled at each other and busied themselves preparing for the trip while on the other hand in a dark room sat a brooding young prince with a glass of alcohol in his hand waiting for the messenger to bring him news about the letter he had sent to his would-be-wife.

Ajabde Punwar you will be mine he thought and drank the entire contents of his glass in one go
