Chapter 8
DheerBai had retired to her room while Uday Singh and Rawatji went to make preparations for their upcoming incognito trip to Bijolia. Pratap stayed back in his mother's room where both Maan and Chand were trying to be really serious but were giving the wrong reactions
Maan: There is no way Dada Bhai that this is going to happen
Pratap: Kunwar Jagmal is our brother and we will do everything in our power to protect him
Maan: That is what I'm saying Dada Bhai - we will do everything but what about the tasks he is required to perform will he be able to do them?
Chand: I'm more worried about Bhootni (everyone looks at her) sorry I meant Ranisa
JB: why won't she be able to do that - all she needs to do is observe fasts and do puja along with some work
Chand: BadiMa but she doesn't observe fasts well not since she fainted
JB looks at her astonished and Maan continues
Maan: There was this huge puja organised where everyone was supposed to keep a 2 day fast (no food and water not even fruits) and DB could not keep it - she complained of a headache within 2hrs and then went to sleep. When she got up she complained of fatigue and nausea and fainted so since then she does not observe fasts and if she has to then she locks herself in her room and does nothing except sleep
JB: Well if she doesn't observe these fasts then there is nothing we can do to protect Kunwar Jagmal
Chand: BadiMa is it alright if we came with you to Bijolia.
Maan: yes BadiMa we would love to help out in every way we can
JB smiles and gives them permission and they leave leaving the mother-son duo behind alone
Pratap: RaniMa
JB: Yes Kunwar Pratap she stares at her son who had grown up so much but right now in the moment he was still the same young boy who was feeling bad that he was not able to save his friend
Pratap: You know everything and yet you want me to speak
JB: By speaking you are acknowledging your faults and mistakes Kunwar Pratap. You are accepting facts that led to disastrous consequences and yes I know I should have spoken to you and not closed the doors on your face but at the time it was essential otherwise I would not have been able to complete my tasks
Pratap: I understand RaniMa but now what do I do? She wouldn't want to meet me after all I did- leaving her alone and helpless on the stairs of the same temple where you closed the doors on me - I walked out on her and when the news of Rao Mamrakh ji's death came I did not even go to attend the funeral rites worried that I might run into her
JB: We all made a lot of mistakes Kunwar Pratap and the time has come to make them alright or at least make an effort from our side to work them out for a better future. Come here
Pratap goes and sits by her on the ground he places his head on her lap and she lovingly rubs her fingers through his hair humming his lullaby while he falls asleep
