Saanjh's character sketch

The reason I am writing this is that after last nights episode I came to this conclusion that to understand the story we need to review the characters from the very beginning and I just decided to start with the one who has been wearing a white shroud since ArYa's marriage- Saanjh.

Let us start from the first episode. Saanjh is very close to Arjun, he is her best friend. She can see people around her unlike her friend Arjun hence she realises that Maya is crying, also she is not the one to easily get into trouble thus she does not want Arjun to pick a fight with Maya's bodyguards. She then reveals she has no big dreams regarding life, only wants to be with her loved ones. When she comes home we see she belongs to a very happy family, but that family mistakes her relationship with Arjun to be more than friendship but she clears it to them that they are just friends but she herself is not convinced with that answer.

Within the first 5 episodes it becomes pretty clear to everyone that Saanjh really loves Arjun but her friend doesn't reciprocate her feelings, and she is also unable to convey her feelings. Bravo! 👏
Her father realises this and tries to protect her from the scenario in his own way- wanting her to maintain distance from Arjun. But her mother supports her beliefs in love and wants Saanjh to atleast give it a try.
We also come to know that Saanjh is pretty chipkoo when it comes to Arjun hence she wants to be everywhere near him. She continuously calls him even when they are in their respective offices, decides to go and meet Arjun in his office hours to have an ice cream etc.
Basically she is taking care of Arjun like a wife.

Later she meets arjuns boss and is hell scared of her coz her BFF has told her that Maya is a chudail!! 😆 She gets scared pretty easily! However she realises that it's all okay as long as your work is good. At this point of time, her character is shown to have high morales thus she wants arjun to apologise to Maya.
However her morales have a limit and his name is Arjun. And that is why when prem asks her if she is really ready to meet a boy for marriage, she doesn't thinks about her father's feelings at all, she only thinks of how shubh advised her that this may bring Arjun closer to her, which doesn't happen! 😆
It clearly stated that when she said she wants a peaceful life with her loved ones she meant Arjun!

So Saanjh wants Arjun and her family and Arjun's family really want this to happen at all costs.
Meanwhile Arjun gets a project and is ready to climb stairs of success, there is an event and he requires a suit so he decides that as usual he would ask his BFF Saanjh (whom he uses as a doormat) to arrange for the suit. She somehow manages to enter the venue and hear him thanking the one person responsible for his success which should obviously be her but she hears Maya's name and is shattered!
Nonetheless she decides to wait for him on their Shanti Spot for dinner so that she can propose him but he doesn't turn up coz he forgot!! She waits for him thewhole night!!
It feels that Arjun matters a lot to him and she really needs him in her life. She loves him a lot maybe the word is beyhadh! 😲

Moving on she sees Arjun's photo in newspaper and gets happy, but wait. There is Maya's photo too. They both are standing hand in hand near each other in the same photo! This obviously is unbearable to her so she decides to cut the Maya out of the photo. Well that's sensible from her POV. Afterall Dusky ka duffer sirf Dusky ka hai. She is completely taken over by Arjun and as I said she does not wants him, she needs him!

Now Arjun has started to appreciate and admire Maya whom he once called queen bee and Saanjh is simply not liking it. Then there comes the day when Maya asks Saanjh to give her the presentation on the very next day, for which Saanjh works all night. When she goes to Maya's office, Maya makes her wait for long hours, then tears her presentation and tells Saanjh that she is not at all efficient.
Saanjh gets really hurt about this. She becomes really heartbroken and scared due to that. That night when she was with Arjun, he starts to say Maya ka Dil bilkul saaf hai uske kapdon ki tarah, but Saanjh interrupts and says ki uska dil bilkul kaala hai. Arjun praises Maya and she leaves in anger.
Saanjh's anger is completely justified, but it important to note that a few hurtful words from Maya and she knows ki iska dil kaala hai! At that point of time I realized that saanjh is not at all simple, even she has layers.
She extremely sensitive, an hold grudges against people and has a strange feeling of helplessness in her self. She did felt extremely bad regarding Maya's behaviour and she was going to hold it in her heart. But then Arjun goes and picks up a fight for him and she really likes it.
Yes, she likes it intact she loves it!! But why? She was always the one to stay out of trouble then why bring trouble onto the person she loves the most? Answer is simple coz it was Maya he fought with. Maya - the person whom Arjun thanked in front of everyone, the lady who was with Arjun in the newspaper photo, the person whom Arjun had started to appreciate. If Arjun picked up fight with Maya for her it surely means she is super important and he definitely loves her right? So this can make anyone happy!

But then she gets a message and she is completely scared of Maya. She can in no way go and meet Maya in Maya's house. She would definitely roast Saanjh for Arjun's anger. But she gets far from roasted, according to Maya she is chopped, cut, grated, grinded!!! 😆 😆
Maya uses her to gather information about Arjun and what he likes, scares her to pieces and finally gives her a watch that she is supposed to pass on to Arjun.
Saanjh is a scaredy cat for sure. But she is also very intelligent. She can see through Maya's facade and realise her intentions. She now knows that Maya loves Arjun and she is panicking! She runs to Arjun and tries to explain the whole situation to him but duffer being duffer and in sleep completely ignores her.
But there was something strange in her Panick. The always fragile, happy and simple Dusky was different. There we can see her insecurities stemming from her love for Arjun. He belongs to her and only her, no one else!! She simply cannot stand anyone loving him, no one has the right to do so!
Hence the sensible and gentle speaker was shouting and blabbering.
Saanjh's love for Arjun becomes pretty evident but duffer still does not gets it.

Since its been a long enough post, I guess I will post the remaining stuff later.

@manya a very good analysis especially I loved you taking that photo cutting by Saanjh. And also she many times ignoring her parents sensible advice. Yes if Arjun is Maya's obsession, he is Saanjh's obsession too. It was very evident in the epi where she almost kisses just stop seeing the tatoo Maya on Arjun's chest. At this point Suman and Prem provide the leash for her to stop. But I dont know how long before Dusky will cross limits for her Arjun.

PART 2

Obviously Saanjh is really frustrated to know about Maya's feelings for Arjun and it is even more frustrating that Arjun is not believing in her. She shares her problem with VM coz she knows that she would support her no matter what and she was absolutely right! VM agrees with Saanjh that Maya is really strange, more like a psycho as she broke glass in her hand while staring Arjun.
So now what to do? VM decides to talk to Arjun about his and Saanjh's marriage on that very day. And is Saanjh elated to here that!! Of course Duffer gonna say yes to Dusky, why wouldn't he!
So Mathur family prepares for dinner and are all excited to talk to Arjun regarding Saajun.
But in between, Arjun sees Maya's home keys with him and calls Maya. Suddenly rushes out of saanjh's house.
"How could he?? How dare he? 😡 We were going to tell him something so important. To top it all my dad is really getting worked up too. What the hell is wrong with duffer, he did this to our relationship for Maya?"
Saanjh at once asked Aayan to call Arjun, he didn't picked up so she decides to go to Maya's place to confront him but then Arjun calls by himself and after a verbal spat Saanjh comes to know about Jhanvi's health condition. She is relieved that it was not for Maya but for the situation and instead of confronting Arjun confronts her dad.

But she knows that Arjun is scared of hospitals due to past experience and quickly wants to be with him and stand by him. She reaches the hospital only to see Maya her n Arjun's arms, but she makes herself understand that it's situation and not Maya. She tries to hug Maya and pacify her but clearly sees Maya's cold behaviour towards her and again her mind gets diverted towards Maya's love for Arjun.
But Arjun needs to get out of this place and she gets out with ayaan and Arjun only to get a call from Arjun that he would be staying here the whole night. Saanjh was amazed and hurt- amazed that Arjun is ready to spend the whole night in a hospital, hurt coz it was bcoz of Maya. Ayaan comforts her and she again explains herself that it is the situation and not Maya.

Next she goes to Arjun's house with vada paav and chilli, only to find Maya there. Maya gifted him a new phone and is now eating the vada paav with extreme chilli. Now Saanjh is feeling really very insecure. All her life she was Duffer's Dusky and Arjun was Dusky's Duffer! No one can take that away from her! Maya has no right to even come in the house.
So as soon as Maya leaves, the timid fragile Dusky turns into the fighting spirited Dusky and starts to howl on Arjun about Maya's love for him, he simply does not understand! How can he not understand??
Saanjh tries her level best but duffer is duffer.

Then comes there plan to go on a holiday and there cannot be anything better than Arjun Saanjh together in Lonavla. This is great, in fact best thing ever - no Maya, no Prem, no work.
But then atom bomb phoota jab Saanjh saw Maya in Arjun's arms in a hot air ballon!!!
That does it! Arjun betrayed her, that is what she believes. They came here to holiday but he is with Maya! He cannot be lying to her, he cannot leave her!

So then comes a fight with Arjun about why he didn't say no, agar marti hain toh marne de!!
Saanjh clearly has only one thing in her life - Arjun. It may be said in the heat of the Moment but it came straight from the heart! She really wished it upon Maya, how dare she be rude to her in office, how dare she scare her after inviting to dinner, how dare she be cold to her when she was trying to pacify her and above all, how dare she propose Arjun?!! Remember that Saanjh plays all innocent Mahatma but she can hold grudges( just the way she knew Maya's kaala dil) and she is doing just that.

They came home Saanjh had high hopes that Arjun would tell Maya that he doesn't love her but she is shattered as Arjun didn't say anything like that rather he is lying to Saanjh about lunch and icecream .
She has never felt this insecure in her whole life, what if Arjun really goes to Maya??

Next thing she knows that Maya has send Arjun really expensive gifts and all of them are on Arjun's wish list! She is damn annoyed right now, how can Maya buy her Love???! There is no way that would happen. First promotion and now this. She blurts out all of her anger on Arjun and this time it really works!! He gets all angry, and leaves to teach Maya a lesson. This makes Saanjh really happy coz now Maya would surely throw Arjun out and then Arjun would obviously say a big NO to Maya and Maya's love; then Maya would be gone forever and SaaJun would live happily ever after. She waits intently very much aware of the consequences and all ready to support Arjun through his tough time. Arjun comes and she knows that he is fired!
But wait, he isn't! Maya managed to do damage control and now it's all on Saanjh. Saanjh has only one defence mechanism in front of Arjun- scream and shout your point!! Nothing works.

Then Ayaan goes to jail and its all upon Saanjh to rescue her Duffers jaan. She tries her level best but, disappointed she comes to Arjun and knows that she has to be strong to support Arjun in such circumstances but she is shocked to know that Maya ne Ayaan ki bail karadi.
She should have been happy and she is really trying to be happy but she cannot do this! How can Maya be the rescuer when Saanjh herself failed??
The day has been bad so she decides to go and have some alone time with Arjun on their personal Shanti Spot but guess what? Maya's here too! "W*F? Is she going to be everywhere with my Arjun!!"

This definitely hurt Saanjh the most bcoz SS was supposed to be their place and now Maya has barged in!
Next day she saw Arjun hugging Maya in a NEWSPAPER!
Enough is enough! She goes straight to Arjun and fights to him in the name of SS.
What she really meant was how could he give Maya the same place as her, how can he ever hug her!!
Saanjh was burning from inside! She has this helpless feeling inside her regarding life which intensifies when Maya is around!

Then of course comes the red dressdrama where Saanjh and Vandana fight Arjun, now can he gift saanjh's gift to Maya. Where situation worsens as Arjun turns the whole topic on Vandana blaming her for his not so happy childhood.
Saanjh was upset and angry about the Maya dress but just like the last few times, she did not said what she was upset about, just took her anger out on Arjun using another topic as shield. This time she used VM scolding Arjun and howling at him saying 'maafi maang' . Then Again didn't work, so Ayaan VM and Saanjh left.

Next she comes to know that Arjun and VM have reconciled and become one happy family, but she is shocked to know that it was bcoz of Maya!! This was a blow she was simply unable to take. Then we see Ashwin at VMs house telling how Maya has some anger issues. No doubt Saanjh wanted to hear them out. It was her best chance. But Arjun came and thrashed the hell out of Ashwin!
It really got onto Saanjh's nerves.
It is interesting to note that Saanjh was completely okay with Arjun thrashing a model for her or threatening Maya for her, but the fact that he was thrashing Ashwin for Maya was unacceptable!!

Arjun left for Mauritius with Maya and did not even told her anything about it!
This has raised her level of insecurities to a new level altogether.
She cried in front of her parents missed her duffer alot and got a lot of negative vibes.
So finally Prem had to give in and he bought her tickets to Mauritius but on one condition- if the answer is no you don't look back.
She went to Mauritius called Arjun and learns that he has realised something so important, he really wanted her to be here but she isn't. She reaches the hotel finds a few clues, believes that it is her duffer proposing to her and ends up seeing Maya with her .
HE PROPOSED MAYA!!!
This was the end of every thing and she became all numb.
She cannot feel understand or react in any which way cause she has become emotionally paralysed for the moment and amidst that she throws her ring which was given to her by her parents. She tried hard to retrieve it but it was too late.
I might be wrong but what i inferred from this was that she would lose all her sensibility running behind Arjun and throw away all the precious things bestowed upon her from her family, upon realising it would be too late!

Moving on we see her meeting Arjun but she decides to hide her intent for his feelings sake. But I truly believe that she did it bcoz she was in no shape to take a NO for an answer. She already had enough for the day!
Next we see her going to the temple which is closed and telling god that he cannot hide forever. See again, she can hold a grudge against god too, let alone Maya. She there finds an earring which belongs to Maya.
Saanjh returns the earring to Maya but she makes sure to show Maya her real intentions only one last time. If I ever got anything that belongs to you, I wont return it!
She means it! She really wants to make Maya realise her pain and she would give it back to her.
Arjun was Dusky's duffer, now he became Maya's Arjun; but if only she could get one chance she wouldn't mind taking Maya's Arjun for herself.

They come back and Saanjh tries her best to explain it all to her parents but the situation gets really awkward.
Then there is the scene where Maya is fighting for her life and Arjun says he would die if anything happened to Maya. He really insisted Saanjh to pray for Maya but she was hesitant- she didn't wanted to, but seeing Arjun in that state she said that plz save Maya even if you have to take something from my destiny.
A lot of people thought that it was Arjun she was talking about or maybe her life, but I fear it was her sukoon peace or maybe family. She had that in destiny not Arjun. Maya had Arjun power fame but peace and family happiness so to say was always missing!

Then we see Saanjh leaving the country coz she cant bear Arjun loving someone not her. I would say, fair enough. Her love for Arjun is extreme. Not only Maya loves Arjun that way. It is what can be said Beyhadh!!
Arjun stops her and she agrees!! She did not went away. Not bcoz Arjun needed her but bcoz she needed Arjun. In his desperation to stop her she saw a hope, that maybe Arjun is still a possibility!
And you realise that now Dusky again became the normal Dusky! She is no more emotionally numb.
At Maya's party she witnesses a nightmare, Arjun is going to marry Maya and this made her go straight to the same point, emotional pain and then numbness.

P.S. : I in no manner want to say that Saanjh is a vamp, all I want to say is every character is grey in beyhadh and so is she. So there is no point hating or loving it. But what I really intended to show was her character was always like that. She is good at heart, no doubt but remember how Maya was Abla Naari at trash incident, same way Saanjh is a good girl in all incidents but there is something strange and you can see it if u see her character graph from the beginning.
