Before even starting why can't Maya and Saanjh be a pair? Like why? Like girl power and all that! Their chemistry is everything.
I think this is, by far, my most favorite episode. We got the Maya we love so freaking much. The independent Saanjh we love. The great brother duo. And no *evil is upon us* foreshadowing (okay that can be debated but you know what I mean.)
I don't think I can stomach the idea of Arjun and Maya like the rest. Arjun is too weak a lead for me to be with a woman like Maya. The moment she appears on the scene Arjun becomes a lingering shadow in the background. She overshadows him by a mile. Her charisma. Her style. Her power.
(and apparently, Jennifer if one those women who gets even sexier when she's got the cold. LIKE WHY WOMAN WHY?)
And in comparison, Arjun's just clueless throughout. Like clueless and staring in the void while shades are being exchanged over his head from all parties.
Tu kya hai meri jaan?
He's such a clueless bachha. All I can do is sympathize with him.
So, let's come to the point and talk about the two characters I look forward to most.
Saanjh. The antithesis of Maya.
The speed breaker. The roadblock. The biggest obstacle. The conflict.
And Maya. The antithesis of Saanjh.
The bullet train. The fire. The accomplisher. The one with the power.
Maya believes in supremacy. In authority. And today you feel why. You relish in her words. In her stance. In her actions. You understand why it's not just about power to her. Saving Ayan isn't only about impressing Arjun. Teaching the cop a lesson isn't only about exacting vengeance. No, this is about protecting her home turf. This is about the woman she is. If wreckage has to come, the giver shall be her. If boon of blessings shall part, the provider shall be her. You will not, you shall not, ever, try and control the sphere within which Maya rules. Because she reigns supreme.
This is why she relishes power. Because she isn't a little girl stuck in a corner, wallowing in her whimpers. No, today she knows that revenge, that fairness and equality, everything has a black tint to it. You could have done this the right way. Filed a complaint, waited for the prosecution. But that isn't Maya, you see.
Maya doesn't let herself and the decisions of her life in the control of others. She is the judge and the executioner.
And in doing so, she relishes again and again.
Because she has the power to beat and to declare war and to hand out punishment. The police officer is now helpless. The tables are turned. She doesn't have to fear the backlash. The revenge. She isn't helpless anymore.
She's powerful. And that's why power reigns supreme.
And Saanjh.
The contrast between them is so vital.
Saanjh needed to know if Ayan had done it because for her the truth and law and rules and codes matter the most.
Maya didn't care whether he'd done it or not, only if it were in her power to control.
Saanjh. The calm, sensible lawyer and the emotional, hurting friend. She wanted to do her best to resolve the situation, to free Ayan but she didn't give into hysterics. She was calm and she knew the police officer was the figure of authority in that moment. She sensibly chose to pull Arjun back. Saanjh knows the rules. She understands them. She respects them.
Maya doesn't have to understand rules. Respect them. or obey them. She makes her own.
Saanjh realized today that beyond her little world there's a vast vast galaxy. She realized that she cannot control everything. Save everyone. She realized how helpless she can be within the constricts of her boundaries. She realized how little she can have and do at times. And she realized the lure and strength of Maya's power. She realized that Maya can do and accomplish the things Saanjh cannot. She realized her helplessness and Maya's endless influence.
Whenever they're on screen together, they create the most delicious tension. They're two people competing for the same goal. Arjun's soul. And yet one wants to control it while the other share it.
One wants to rule it.
The other free it.
And now they're both aware of their weapons.
There's no rule Maya won't break. No string she won't pull. No limits she won't cross.
But Saanjh will have to make the decision of either working within her boundaries or crossing them, and if she does that, if she crosses her own, ultimately, she'll began mirroring Maya.
And the question if everything's fair in love and war.
And what when it's both?
P.S. How amazing was Jen today? PSSHT. She's always amazing. this needs to stop being a P.S. And more like a daily memo.😆
P.P.S. I lovee the professional Maya so much. and gah.
Rida.
