If I am not wrong India has the largest Muslim population for a non-Muslim country.
I don't know this information but I know that there are more than 250 million Indian Muslims. That is really amazing for me

Indian constitution described itself as "Secular". This mean we aren't governed by religious laws here. Tolerance level is much higher than other countries. Most countries with this body of Muslim population clearly describe themselves as Islamic.
In India we have all sorts of Muslims- Orthodox as well as liberal.
I don't think we are supposed to identify with a fictional character as you put it. However Zoya's attitude is very refreshing to watch. Point to be noted is that when Zoya married Aditya, she didn't change her religion or name. Had it been a Muslim guy, the scene is usually different. That says a lot I think.
I don't get what you mean by @bold

I think you should get that any kind of religious or spiritual belief should unite people, not divide them. If that's not the case, it's huge pity.
There is no intentions to divide this fandom or make any wars here I just needed explanation nothing more

Thank you for your reply

If you really are interested in asking these questions and getting answers, please do so on a relevant forum! You can ask this on quora forum where you will definitely get most of your answers you are looking for in a much better manner . Zoya is a fictional character, however she is shown or behaves does not stand for all the women of this country or as a matter of fact any other country ! It's completely a writers perception, whether he/she is right or wrong is upto the channel n PH. If you can't relate to her, then please do stop watching the show.. If you want to understand her please ask these questions elsewhere where you will definitely get better responses.. These things are super sensitive to be discussed on such a platform. .

I just have one question for all the Muslims here
I'm Muslims from Egypt and I don't know about Muslims in India how they live or what they accept or not

My question is

Do you think that Zoya represent you?
Does Zoye represent the Muslim woman in India?

Can you accept and do what Zoya does?

Praying in church, marrying a non Muslim man, Praying to other Gods
Is that ok with you as Indian Muslim women?

I just need to understand
because I can't relate to Zoya anymore

Please just one request
Don't bash or offend anyone or any beliefs in this post

It is a simple question to help me understand the character in this show nothing more

Hello there. I wanted to give my 2 cents here as well because I can understand where you are coming from. Being a fellow Muslim, born and brought up in India, I find it difficult to identify with Muslims in other parts of the world. I now live in the US but lived for a majority of my life in Mumbai where we celebrate everything from Eid to Diwali and observe everything from Muharram to Lent. I still look forward to all the Indian festivals and to participating in the festivities, even though I don't understand a lot of the rituals. I really miss being back home especially during this time of the year which is the festival season.

And this is the case with most Indians - we respect every culture and religion - India is so diverse and you realize this once you are away from the country - we are diverse in our food, languages and even the way we dress, that it allows so many different festivities all year round as compared to other places where people live.
Hopefully this helps to paint a better picture about us now.

I am not sure from which region you belong to (I mean no disrespect here), but things are a little different when it comes to India. The mingling of different religions is very very common here. I would like to give you my own example - Every Eid I am with my family at a Muslim family friend's house for lunch and the same happens on Diwali as they are at our house for the Pooja. In fact, just yesterday one of my closest Muslim friends reminded me of attending our mandatory Dandiya event. All of go every year, dance like mad, and come and no one stops him (the Muslim friend) or has he ever stopped himself. It is just so so normal that it feels weird for me to even type this.
I am not sure whether Zoya represents the Muslim woman to you or not but to me she certainly does represent the modern Indian secular Muslim.

Sorry but what is Quora forum?

I wanted to ask Muslim Indian and also fans of the show to understand my questions
that is why I asked here in the forum

I know Zoya is fictional character but I just needed to understand her POV to enjoy the show more

What I understood from most of the replies here in the thread that is ok in India to do what is Zoya did

so now I can relax while watching the show

because it was just bothering me not understanding how she did what she did

I'm a 40 years old computer engineer woman. I'm not a kid to not differentiate between fictional and real character
I know whatever Zoya or Adi or any character in any show I watch just do what the writers want them to do

I am a writer myself and I have published novels on Amazon

So it is important for me to understand every character pov and state of mind

It is not just entertaining for me

I try to analyse any character I got interested in the show

Thank you so much for replying my post and trying to help me

Thank you so much for your informative reply
It helped me a lot to understand the situation in India

Here in Egypt is really different
Muslims here are majority and Christian are minority

We live together and respect each others
sometimes Muslims enter Churches just attend weddings or funerals but nothing more
the same for the Christians

But no Muslims pray in church or Christian pray in Masjed
that is why it was strange for me to see Zoya doing so

I'm Arabic from Egypt it is a country in middle east.

Thank you so much for your reply and your time to explain it to me. Like you said it is so normal for you but for me it new.

Like discussing and asking about religion it is so normal for me but I felt it is so sensitive here in the forum like a forbidden topics

For me I discuss these topics all the time with my non Muslim friends and we take it easily

I even studied and had courses about Christianity I had the bible here in my disk and I discuss about it with Christians many times and it all goes easily
as long as the discussion is respective and informative just like this discussion here

Thank you so much my dear for your time and your information

its just a show. if you take the story can any one bump in to each other life after there partners death those who r having affair.
coming to ur point if any person in real life if they choose to leave life with there own terms & conditions how they will represent whole community.

it is not at all wrong to practice any religion. so many people are going for inter religion marriages.we shuld not question neither parents upbringing nor religion.
they want to be spiritual rather than religious.
zoya is fictional. may be inspired by some real we dont know.

Dear, you have to understand that a fictional character esp in indian television will never represent their religion in true way. In other show, silsila, they have shown bengali sindoor festivel in which they made husband accidently making sindoor fall on wifes maang and wife applying that sindoor to mistress infront of durga ma. In qubool hai, they made bride swap in nikhah by arranging another girl with same name forgetting the fact that in nikhah they read the brides name with fathers name also. I can give 100s of examples like this
So point is indian shows always makes fun of religion and rituals. The thing is hindu viewers got habit of it as of 20 years and now they dont give a damn to what they show in tv.. muslims are new to this.. we barely got 3-4 sgows in muslim bg in indian television and out of them only ishq subhan allah shows religion seriously..but they ruined it by going overbroad and regressive.

Coming to zoya, u have to understand that all people born in a religion follows religion seriously. And in india, every citizen hav freedom to practice their religion in the way they want as long as they are not disturbing others.
I myself seen four kinds of muslims in india..1. Extremly orthodox,.. wear parda and is too religious 2.moderate..whowear churidars and sarees but full sleeves..go to job and do religious stuffs too.. 3. Modern.. who wear moderndress and follow few religious thing.. 4. Ultra modern..they believe in all religion and do things as per their taste.. Zoya belong to that last group. She is just born in islam. But believe in all religion. She prays to allah, durga ma, jesus in same way. Its evident from her past too. She married yash who is hindu which is not allowed in her religion.
Not only zoya, entire siddique family is liberal.. have we ever seen any of them praying? Noor also love arjun. So there is no point in questioning zoya alone. Consider zoya as a human who is born in islam but believes in all religion.. that will help to understand her beyond her religion

I'm from a Muslim family and I've prayed in church. Respecting one religion doesnt mean you are disrespecting another. And i honestly feel that my connection to god is my own...and where/how i pray shouldnt change that. So I can relate to Zoya. Hope this answers your question.
