Beendh Banunga Ghodi Chadhunga is a family drama that revolves around the story of two people caught up in the web of strong traditions and rituals.
The show traces the story of Sarika (Jayashree) & Jai (Anuj Thakur) who both come from Marwari families but have a very different outlook to life. Sarika is a young and ambitious girl from an average family in Jaipur and Jai is the youngest & the most pampered son of a rich businessman. While Sarika's ambition is to complete her studies and become a Doctor, Jai's only dream is to get married and live a carefree life. Yet, when these two diverse people cross paths, destiny has its own rules set for them. Sarika, who is on the verge of fulfilling her dreams, unwittingly finds herself married to Jai. From there on begins Sarika's struggle of managing the household and pursuing her dreams. While she has a tough time at college, at home she is repudiated by her conservative in laws for not being a good bahu. On one hand she struggles with her assignments in college, on the other she puts in great effort in discharging her responsibilities at home. The show drives the thought that can a girl realize her dreams/create her identity while donning the role of a dutiful daughter-in-law in a traditional society. The show marks the return of television superstar Nausheen Ali Sardar on the small screen. It also has powerhouse actors like Khyati Khandke, Himani Shivpuri, Akshay Anand and a host of others in key roles.
Well, we all know how all Imagine shows stay true to their USPs to the end. 4 would-be jethanis and a role solely in the kitchen? A thinly disguised saas-bahu show.
Anyway, the thing that bothers me about this show right of the bat is the message above. In the first episode clip, they show her literally burning the midnight oil studying, and in return for her efforts, this? Sarika unwittingly finds herself married? What's this - like someone spiking a drink of hers or what? What's that all about?
And the theme of the show in bold above - forcing a college age girl to marry & fulfill her bahu responsibilities when she clearly has interests to study (and presumably work) - and showing her as ideal only if she can do both? W*F? How about this - if a girl is as interested in studies & a career, do not dump her in a sasural. Conversely, if she weren't interested in studies & a career in the first place and wanted to trot around in a sasural barefoot & pregnant, do not force her to study and waste money on the attempt. But expecting a girl to do both is a recipe for disaster.
I can see this going right in. Once she marries, as long as she is home, she'll be berated for studying instead of cooking, and will be shown reading her book in the kitchen while stirring the dal, and the CVs are going to portray this as some sort of ideal bahu behavior. If she decides to go out to her campus to study more peacefully, her jethanis will berate her for not spending more time @ home. Oh, not to forget - @ campus, she'll definitely stand out for being married - a majority of college students still ain't married, as far as I know - and potentially face taunts. So just sounds like an all round sadistic routine that will give the other saas-bahu dramas a run for their money.
Expectations from this show: 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
