Tell us about your character on the show you do together – Doli Saja Ke on SaharaOne. Anupama is a girl who's considered unlucky, since her mother died soon after she was born. Her stepmother makes her believe she's apshaguni. Her basic aim is to get her father's love, because he hates her. In the one year that I've been doing the show, she's gone from being meek to being a strong woman because of her husband's support. Is the high pressure in a profession like yours a factor in people who work together becoming a couple? It definitely is a factor – two people working together, 14-15 hours a day, every day... just brings people together. But you don't get along with everybody you work with, no? It depends on your chemistry, whether or not you like the person... How did you meet Indreneil? What was the courtship period like? We met as complete strangers when we started doing Pyaar Ke Do Naam, Ek Radha Ek Shyam as the lead pair. At first, I thought he was a snob – he'd come to work, sit in a corner, not talk much to anyone and leave at the end of the day – one of those model types. But with time, I learnt that he was an introvert. We got to know each other and had fun together on outdoor shoots, soon after the serial started. We found we shared our taste in music, movies... Then the show ended in nine months, and I realised we'd become more than good friends. We realised something was missing, and started meeting up. We've all heard about the advantages of being married to someone from the same profession. Are there any disadvantages? Of course, there are more advantages than there are minuses, but no matter how understanding the other person is, it still gets to you that you don't get to spend as much time with each other as you'd want to. Neil and I work on the same show, so thankfully we don't have that problem, but if we were to, maybe, work on different shows someday, we'd certainly not be able to meet each other so much! How is Indraneil as a co-actor? Oh, he's the sweetest. He has endless patience with me. I'm very irritable. I need things to happen my way, and if they don't, I get irritated. Do you have your favourite movie or song, as a couple? It was pure coincidence, but we both discovered we loved Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. And then, there's this song we both like a lot – Kasam ki kasam, from Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. Neil: She's a bit reserved Tell us about your character in Doli Saja Ke.. I've been doing the show for about six months now, and I accepted it for three reasons. The most important one was that I got to work with Barkha again! Is the high pressure in your profession a factor in people who work together becoming a couple? I don't think so. It depends completely on the individual. The connection is at the personal level. How did you meet, and court Barkha? We met when we started doing Pyaar Ke Do Naam... together. Till then, I didn't know of her existence. I'm not the type who forms impressions very quickly, so initially, we weren't pally. Then, we became good acquaintances. But soon after the show started, we had a month-long outdoor shoot at Wai. I think that made a difference. We bonded really well. Maybe, you understand a person more when you're away from people. There are advantages in being married to someone from the same profession. Any disadvantages? There are more pluses than minuses. We understand how work might dictate our moods. If we were from different professions, we would not be able to relate so well to each other. But yes, there can be a tendency to take work home. So, Barkha and I ensure we don't talk work at home. How's Barkha as a co-actor? Very sweet, but shy, a bit reserved, but quite friendly when you get to know her. I liked her more because she wasn't too gregarious. |
