Part 3
They had been sitting there for the past half hour, watching the crowd slowly dwindling down. She was sifting the sand on the beach through one hand. He took hold of the other hand and began drawing idly on her palm.
They remained that way, silent, just watching the waves hit the shore and recede back in, the consistent swoosh singing a lullaby.
Divya felt less anxious now. Somewhere deep within her, she knew this was meant to be. He was part of her destiny. Maybe he WAS her destiny. She turned to look at him and found him staring at her.
"What were you thinking?" he whispered.
She lifted her shoulders and let them drop with a deep sigh, "My future, I guess."
"Do you do that a lot?"
She looked at him confused and he continued, "Thinking? Planning?"
She smiled, "I guess. Do you?"
He shook his head and winked, "I like living in the moment."
She chuckled, "I'm serious. Do you ever think about what you want to be in the future?"
It was his turn to sigh now. "I'm going off to Carnegie Mellon in the fall." He turned to look at her and shrugged, "Business."
"You don't sound too excited?"
"Nope! How about you?" He smiled as her face suddenly brightened with a smile and she began talking animatedly.
"I have so many things planned. After finishing high school, I am going to go to Duke University for Pre-medicine, major - psychology. And then, I am going to Washington University for Med school. After that, I'm going to do my residency in Psychiatry. And then..."
He chuckled, "And...?"
She bit her lip, "That's all I have planned so far."
He tilted his hand, "Do you ever do anything spontaneously?"
"Err...no," and then blushing, "at least not until now." She turned away hoping the darkness concealed the red in her cheeks. But his deep chuckle said otherwise...

Divya gave finishing touches to her make-up and left her room. An important guest was arriving today and she knew he and Armaan had to look and be their best for him. Maasi had been bragging and boasting about the guest for the past few days that Divya was getting just slightly annoyed by this "amazing" person. She wanted to know who he was.
She quickly rapped on Armaan's door, "Hurry up, you slowpoke!"
She arrived at the top of the stairs and realized that the guest had already arrived. He was looking out the bay window with a wine glass in his right hand. Maasi was gushing over him and asking him about his trip and recent vacation. Divya smiled. The love between them was so evident. She finished going down the rest of the stairs, intrigued. She cleared her throat to indicate her presence. Maasi quickly whirled around and the man also slowly turned in her direction.
Her lips parted in shock and her eyes widened as he began moving towards her. It had been years since she'd seen him. Well, to be precise, three years. And her eyes drunk in the sight of him. Oh, the beautiful sight of him. Those dark dark eyes with that amazing twinkle, his gorgeous smile, and just his presence... She couldn't believe it was really him.
He extended his hand, bringing her out of her reverie. "Hello. I'm Amar. And, you must be Divya."
'Must be?' What a way to lift someone up to the sky one instant, and drop her without a thought the next. Well, that's how it felt to Divya. Hedidn't remember her.
Thenkoo everyone for reading and replying! 🤗 Don't be mad at Amar 😛
