Part 4 I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me... They were lying down in the sand, looking up at the sky, their fingers entwined at the sides. She didn't know how long they'd been lying there like that. All thoughts, all inhibitions had fled her. It was as if she was in a state of hypnosis - hypnotized by the constant lub dub of their hearts, the swish swash of the waves, the starry sky, and the calming breeze.
"I write, you know.." she said randomly.
He chuckled at the way she had broken the silence and whispered, "What do you write about?"
He felt her shrug, "I...I see things...people actually. And I write about them."
She suddenly pulled herself up to rest on her elbow and looked at him, "Did I sound like a freak? I don't mean to say that I stalk people and write about them. I see things..people in my dreams and I write about them....Oh God, I sound like a bigger freak now, don't I?"
He pulled on her elbow, making her fall back on the sand, and chuckled, "No! Actually, I paint." He turned to the side and continued, "Paint people I see."
She looked at him disappointed, "Are you making fun of me?"
He smiled and took her hand in his again, "I'm not making fun of you. I paint the things I dream about. I don't see any specific people or places..." He sighed and continued, "I guess all I'm saying is that I'm a freak too."
She chuckled, "Thanks."

Her lips parted in shock and her eyes widened as he began moving towards her. It had been years since she'd seen him. Well, to be precise, three years. And her eyes drunk in the sight of him. Oh, the beautiful sight of him. Those dark dark eyes with that amazing twinkle, his gorgeous smile, and just his presence... She couldn't believe it was really him.
He extended his hand, bringing her out of her reverie. "Hello. I'm Amar. And, you must be Divya."
She blinked. At first, she didn't understand what was happening. Then slowly, it dawned on her. 'Must be?' He didn't remember her. It was as if the world crashed around her. He had affectively broken her heart and as if on second thought, pulled it out, threw it on the floor and stomped on it. Well, that's how it felt to Divya. He didn't remember her. Her insides turned into jelly, she tried to pull herself together. Garnering confidence she didn't know she had, she slipped her hand in his and smiled, "Yep. That's me."

They had just finished lunch and Divya watched curiously as Amar replied to all of Maasi's questions with utmost patience. It was a feat alright, since Maasi was bombarding him with queries about his great grandmother to her favorite cat. Divya liked this. It gave her an opportunity to be a silent observer. He was still the same, yet there was something different about him. She couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Apparently, he had finished his undergrad and had come to do his MBA at UCLA. Of course, he had wanted to get his own apartment but Maasi wouldn't allow it, not when she lived only a few minutes away from campus.
She had wanted to ask him so many things. Did he go to Carnegie Mellon? Is he still doing business? Does he still paint? But she couldn't do any of that, because
he didn't remember. How could he
not remember? She didn't notice that she had been glaring at Amar until she felt Armaan pinch her on her arm.
Oww. She quickly composed herself and tried to pay more attention during Maasi's rapid fire session for Amar.

Divya hit backspace for what seemed like the millionth time. She couldn't concentrate. It didn't matter that her term paper wasn't due for another two weeks. Thanks to Maasi's love and financial support, she was back in school and working only part-time (to help out whenever she can, of course!) And she hated putting off things to the last minute. Everytime she started typing the four different types of hypersenstivities, one name would keep dropping in - Amar. She wanted to scream in frustration,
what does Amar have to do with Immunology? Divya chuckled.
Well, her heart was immune to other men because of Amar. She sighed and mentally shook herself out of it. She had to concentrate...concentrate...concentrate.
"DIVYAAA!" called Armaan, from his room.
Divya quickly rose to her feet. She was happy for the distraction. Anything to get away from her monotonous study schedule. In her hurry to get out of the room, she tripped over the computer cord and fell straight into the arms of the unsuspecting passerby - Amar.
"Whoa...slow down,
princess!"
Hehe...to be honest, I have no idea if there is any residential area so close to UCLA, but for the story's sake, let's pretend there is!
And sorry about the ending - wrote it an a hurry and it's quite abrupt. Oh well, he called her princess so all's fine 😛 Edited by inavars - 17 years ago
