Who did it better?
21 years of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi
Vidya had been disappointed that Saagar hadn't requested the kheer for himself. She twiddled with the ends of her sari, tying it into a knot and untying it, repeatedly.
"Thank you Bhabhi." Tusshar leaned and kissed Vidya's cheeks. "Dinner ke liye, and kheer ke liye." He patted the container in his hand, which Vidya had packed for him to take home.
Vidya blushed crimson, not used to such displays of affection. "Your W..wel...coom", she tried softly.
Tusshar smiled before bidding good bye to everyone else, including a stoic Saagar, who hadn't said much the whole evening.
After Tusshar had left, Vidya moved to the kitchen to clean up. As she put the food away and washed the dishes, she wondered why Saagar had been so quiet. Was it something she had done?
"Hum to phir bhi tumhaare rishtedar lagte hain....humein kabhi aisi nazro se nahin dekha?"
Vidya's mouth twisted in disgust at Harsh's voice. She turned to move away but Harsh blocked her path.
"Itni bhi kya jaldi hai. Thoda pyaar humaari taraf bhi barsao." He wrapped his arms around pushing her further into the kitchen.
Vidya place her palms against his chest to push him away, only to have Saagar walk into the kitchen at that moment.
Saagar looked at the pair, for a few minutes before addressing Vidya. "Kya mein tumse akele mein baat kar sakta hoon."
Harsh smiled snidely before letting Vidya go. "Hum baadme baat karenge..Vidya Rani." He touched her cheeks, causing her to flinch, then left the kitchen humming to himself.
"Woh aap ko..."
Saagar held out his hand to stop Vidya, from providing any explanation. "Maine tumse pehle hi kahaan hai. Main tumhein apni patni nahi maanta. Tumhein band darwaazon ke piche jo bhi karna hai, tumhaari marzi."
Vidya didn't know what stung more, the fact that Saagar didn't care, or that his opinion of her was so low. She started to say something but her breath got caught in her throat, and she just turned away to compose herself.
Saagar sighed mentally, wondering why he felt highly irritated. His first day at the office had been taxing, and then it bothered him that Tusshar continuously praised Vidya telling him how lucky he was to have her as his wife. Then this, the scene he had just walked in, irked him for some odd reason. Now he'd even forgotten why he'd come to the kitchen.
Five minutes later he was still standing awkwardly in the kitchen, staring at Vidya's back, with no clue what to say.
"Aapne apne davaiyaan leli?" Vidya asked a few minutes later, without turning around, trying to break the awkward silence.
"What?"
"Woh doctor ne jo di thi."
Saagar sighed realizing, in the time he had been back, he'd rarely taken his medicine. Maybe that's why nothing in his head made sense. In fact he didn't think he knew where his medicine was kept.
"Woh meri davaiyaa kahan hai?"
Vidya turned to look at Saagar apalled that he was clueless. "Agar aapko apki davaiyaa kahaa hai nahi pata, to phir aap davaiyaa lete kaise hai?"
"Woh mein..usually I just don't take them...leta nahin." Saagar shrugged feeling a little guilty, with the looks Vidya was sending him.
"Chaliye." She took his hand in his, not realizing she had done so, and lead him to his room. "Aapki davaa, yahaan idhar rakhi hai." She pulled out his tablets from the drawer next to his bed.
"Oh haan. Thanks."
"Roz subaah ek, aur raat ko ek, theeke. Aur kal aapko Doctor se milne bhi jaana hai." She raised her hands to touch his cheeks, but caught herself in time, stopping mid-air, remembering that he wouldn't appreciate her touching him.
Saagar noticed though. He also noticed that her hands were still bruised from when he'd manhandled her.
Vidya moved her hands away and left to get him some water for his medicines.
In all honesty, Saagar really didnt want to hurt Vidya, but he also couldn't accept her as his wife. He couldn't love her.
He sat on the bed, resting his head against his palms, frustrated at his situation.
Vidya came back with the water and kneeled in front of him, concerned. She gently reached out to touch his hair, drawing his attention back to her.
"Sab theek hain?"
Saagar just nodded taking the medicine and water from her.
After making sure that he was okay, Vidya left and went back to her room. She was tired, more emotionally than physically. She knew it had to be as hard on him as it was her. She just wanted him to be happy, even if in the end it meant breaking her own heart to do so.
She shook the thoughts of her impending future from her head, wondering if it would be easier, if she left to go to Benares for a few days. She could go see her mom, and some time away would do both Saagar and her good. As she thought about it, she realized she didn't feel like leaving Saagar alone.
She sighed, and rested her hed against the pillow, but not before saying a quick prayer, asking for god's guidance and protection for all those she loved and cherished, especially Saagar.
Vidya smiled realizing how before she knew Saagar, her small world had been with her god, and her mom. They had been the bane of her existence, but after meeting Saagar, and understanding him, she knew that without him, she'd never be complete.
She rose from her bed, wanting to check on Saagar before she slept. He might not remember, but he was still the last person she saw before sleeping, and the first person when she rose in the morning.
She tiptoed towards his room, peeking in slightly to make sure all was well. She couldn't see his face, but could tell that he had fallen asleep.
She turned to leave but heard a slight noise, and stopped to look back at Saagar. She couldn't tell whether or not he'd made the noise. Then she heard an unmistakable groan.
Vidya rushed to Saagar's side, only to see him perspiring, his hand rolled into fists clutching on to the bedsheet. She gently placed a palm against his forehead, wiping his perspiration with the end of her pallo.
She then took his hands into her own, gently unclenching them. She shook him a little to wake him up from whatever nightmare he was having.
Saagar was running. He had to stop Vidya, before it was too late. He had to save Vidya. He saw Vidya, she was close to him. He grabbed her pulling her into his arms, not wanting to let go. He would never let her go.
Vidya looked stunned as Saagar had pulled her into his arms. She knew he was still dreaming, and had done it unintentionally. She was uncomfortable, especially since Saagar had chosen to sleep without a shirt on. She hesitantly wrapped her arms around him to calm him as he was still breathing heavily, his chest heaving in the effort.
Saagar rested his head against her shoulder but didn't let go. His breath gradually reached an even pace but his hold on her only tightened. Vidya tried to pull apart but he wouldn't let her move away from him.
"Sa..suniye." She tried shaking him again, but he only pulled her closer. She tried to lay him gently back in the bed. He pulled her down with him, causing her to come face to face with him, with her nearly on top of him.
Vidya blushed, then sighed, giving up. She adjusted her positioning so that she wasn't lying on top of him, and scooted next to him to lie down. He loosened his hold then, just enough for her to turn around before he draped his arms around her bare waist, pulling her close against him. Vidya just snuggled against Saagar, closing her eyes, savoring the comfort and warmth that his arms provided.
