Price for being a Prince!

by Tellywatch News Desk

Oct 23, 2008, Mumbai

Acting is a great profession and it has its benefits as well as dangers, says Amit Dua. The handsome actor's recent experience in Goa has been a lesson to him in more ways than one.

Amit, who plays prince Rudra on 'Raaj Aki Aayegi Barat', was currently shooting in Goa for an ad. Once the shoot was over, Amit decide to chill out for a while with his friends and was having a great time. He was overjoyed to see that people recognised him wherever he went.

He says, "I was getting great response from the people there and when your work gets appreciated and the character gets popular, it is a great feeling. I am enjoying this phase in my career. So while shopping, I was called out as 'Kunvarji..', 'Hello Kunvarji…', 'Kunvarji hum se kharido', and everybody insisted on me picking up something from their shops and did get heavy discounts. By the end, Goans had me completely broke! So, I paid a heavy price for being a 'prince'."

Mohit and Addite (TOI Photo) More Pics
reality show, may end up spending Diwali rehearsing for their next performance.

Addite had, infact, forgotten Dhanteras as well, all thanks to hectic schedules. "It was certainly not a case of memory loss. I had injured my left leg during our last performance. The doctors have asked me to be extra cautious of the injury." And what's planned for Diwali? "Well, I might attend a card party, although I don't know how to play cards, I enjoy watching people do the same. And I am also planning something special for Mohit. He is a bit upset, since he hasn't been able to go to Delhi because of the schedules. I will give him a sweet surprise."

Mohit elaborates further and says, "Had we not been shooting for Nach Baliye - 4, I would have certainly gone home to be with my family."

Diwali : Unity in Diversity!

India is a country of varied customs, culture and beliefs. We even celebrate Diwali differently in various parts of the ...

From Southern tip of India , lets move towards North with…

Mohit Mallik :

Please share the traditional way in which you celebrate Diwali: I am not celebrating Diwali this time as my dadaji passed away this year. However, Diwali for us back in Delhi has always been one memorable get-together. We invite lot of friends and relatives every year. We prepare all kinds of dishes and savories in the Restaurant we own at the Defence Colony Market. Our whole bungalow is usually lit up as a Dulhann and the day starts with a puja at home, followed by a puja at our shop and restaurant. One particular tradition followed by our family is that we wake up our colony people every year at exact 2 in the mid-night by bursting the 20,000 ladi wala pataka. We are famous for this in our colony, so much so that now, it has become such a routine that all in our colony get up by 2 to witness the 20,000 wala ladi taking off (laughs).

And to share the customs and culture of Eastern India or Kolkata ,we have with us…

Sharad Malhotra :
Please share the traditional way in which you celebrate Diwali:
I am off to Kolkata for two days to celebrate Diwali. We will have a puja at home, followed by a puja at our office. We will have a family and friends' get-together in the evening. This is one day without non-veg and drinks, so we will all be well behaved in celebrating Diwali (grins). Otherwise Punjabis love to eat and drink. At night, I will probably hang out with friends. We have the Theeka ceremony which we call Bhai Dhooj on 30th. Since I will be leaving for Mumbai on 29th, my sister will probably come a day earlier to spend the occasion with me. So I am looking forward to all great things this Diwali. Basically I am happy that I will get to spend time with my family.

Is Divyanka out of Dulhann?

In the past few months, there have been many a speculations surrounding the Zee TV show Banoo Main Teri Dulhann – be it the future of the show or its lead actors. The current buzz from the Dulhann stable is that lead actress Divyanka Tripathi will soon be shown the exit door.

Says a source, "Divyanka's decision to anchor 9X's reality show Jalwa 4 2 ka 1 has not gone down too well with Zee. Besides, it's also buzzed that she's got other lucrative offers as well. As a result, Divyanka will be shown the exit door. Aneesha Kapoor, who's stepped into the show as Gauri, will be the new protagonist and Amar's (Sharad Malhotra) new love interest. Presently, we're just working on how to bring an end to Divyanka's character."

Producer Shyam Bhattacharya of Shakuntalam films though rubbished this news. "There's no truth in these tales. Divyanka is our heroine and there's no way that we can do without her. With regards to Gauri being Amar's new love interest, well after completing over 600 episodes, you definitely need to have a new track. Divyanka will continue to be part of the new track. As for Divyanka's other offers, I wasn't even aware that she's hosting Jalwa."

When contacted, Divyanka seemed unperturbed by such news. "As of now, I haven't received any such information from the channel or the production house. I've always maintained that if my ouster is in the interest of the show then I'll readily accept it. I believe in karma and do not worry about the results."

Defending her decision to take Jalwa, Divyanka says, "I'm not the first actor from Dulhann to take part in reality shows. Currently, we have Mohit Malik dancing in Nach Baliye 4 and Kamya Punjabi had earlier participated in Comedy Circus 2 and Kaante Ki Takkar. I don't think any one of them was asked to leave the show. In fact, Kamya used to give two days in a week for reality shows."

When asked whether she has other offers, the bubbly actress chose to say this, "All, I can tell you is that even if I'm out of Dulhann, there certainly won't be a dearth of offers for me."

Zee TV programming head Ajay Bhalwankar remained unavailable for comment.

Divyanka is very much a part of Dulhan

There has been a buzz that Divyanka Tripathi, one of the leads of the show Dulhan, will soon be shown the door as she has taken up hosting a reality show, Jalwa Four 2 ka 1, without Zee's permission. But producer Shyam Bhattacharya says the news is totally false.

"This is not at all true. Divyanka is the main protagonist and will continue to be till the show runs. We are not replacing her by under any circumstance. She is very much a part of Dulhan."
It has been over a week now since Jalwa Four 2 ka 1 has started and the producer of Dulhan says he was actually unaware of the fact that Divyanka is a part of some other show.

"I didn't even know that she is doing some other show. I just realized it two days back," he says. When asked about her contract issues with the channel, he says "I am not the right person to talk about it".

Dulhan will be completing its 600 episodes soon and with that, the story will have a new track which will focus on Divya, Amar and his new love interest Gauri and Divya will still be a part of the show.

"As ever Divyanka will continue to be a part of the new track too," signs off Shyam dispelling all rumours.

Divyanka remained unavailable for her comments.

    Strike Called Off

After 10 days the producers' strike has finally been called off. And all telly fans can heave a sigh of relief as the production houses will resume filming tonight itself so that fresh episodes can be aired from Monday onwards. We spoke to the vice president of the producer's association Dheeraj Kumar who heads Creative Eye a production house.

"For us the first good news is that the strike has been called off with appropriate decision. There were two worker unions involved in this issue. And now everyone have agreed over two things - job security meaning they will get insurance facilities as well as the fact that they will be under a one month contract which was not the case initially. Earlier they used to loose their jobs in 4-5 days without any notice or anything. However this will not happen after they will sign the contract," informs Dheeraj.
"Second thing is the hike issue. Now we have spoken to them about the current economical situation and they have agreed on a small rise in the percentage of hikes which will be 10 to 15 %," adds Kumar.
"The next issue was that the producers wanted a hike in their contract price from channels as well. So now an agreement has been brought about where they will first reduce their production cost ? like if one episode was taking 3 days to shoot now the production house will try to finish that episode in one and half day so that is how they themselves will not face any burden and they will not ask for more money to broadcasters also."

The shooting for all the shows will start from tomorrow (Thursday November 20, 2008) and the channels will air new episodes from Monday (November 24, 2008).

Mohit Malik (TOI Photo) More Pics
    pretty often of late.

This Delhi dude who started his small screen stint with Milee has followed it up with more shows like Jab Love Hua, Betiyaan Ya Apni Ya Paraya, Durgesh Nandini, Pari Hoon Main and Banoo Main Teri Dulhann.

Did Mohit always want to do a reality show? "Well, I always wanted to do a dance show. I got other offers, but I didn't take them up. I have never danced before and I wanted to gain experience from this dance reality show that I am doing. I am sure the experience will help," says Mohit. What about the perception that scripts in reality shows are predetermined? "Reality shows are real and the emotions shown are very true. Nothing is scripted in these shows," he quips.

For someone who kept his love life underwraps for so long, what made him announce it on national television? "I never wanted to talk about Addite, but now that the audience knows about it, I don't want to hide it either. We are in a relationship for the last three years. I met her first on the sets of the soap Millee," he affirms. On their first date, Mohit took Addite to a juice centre on Haji Ali Road. Does he remember the first gift he gave her? "I am a very unromantic guy. I took her to a mall and asked her to buy whatever she wants," he laughs. "I am learning things gradually and just bought her a phone on her birthday," adds Mohit.

With time the relationship has surely metamorphosed. "Initially, my career was my priority, but now things have changed. I think somewhere Addite has become as important as my career. We are now soulmates," gushes Mohit who feels 'trust' is one word that describes their relationship. And yes, marriage is on the cards, but that will happen in a while.
