Amit Dua's fashion secrets unraveled
by Tellywatch News Desk
Sep 22, 2008, Mumbai

We caught up with dashing model Amit Dua for his take on fashion and we must say, he had some really interesting answers for us.

Fashion to me is… I don't believe in trends. Fashion to me is anything that looks good on me.

Brands that I dig... Spyker, Ed Hardy, Police

At home, you would find me lounging in... Shorts and Tees

My gym wear is... I don't gym.

My sin wear is…. Denim and ganjee.

Formal look to me is... Donned only when it is necessary.

Casual look for me is… Something that I feel myself in.

My party ensemble is... A jacket, preferably black with a smart pair of shoes and watch.

My classic style statement is… Denim + Tee + Chappal.

My color for the season… ice blue.

I look sensuous in… Sherwani.

Indian designers that I follow… I don't, I'm not a designers' slave.

The ultimate style icon to me is… Bon Jovi for his rock star looks and Salman Khan for his attitude.

A must have in my purse is… A picture of Vaishnav Mata and my credit card.

My party look for the season is… Jeans, shirt and school tie.

The perfume, which is my signature statement… CK and Davidoff.

The colors of this season… Black; it's 4 all seasons.

I'm a fashion junkie when it comes to… Wrist band, cap and shoes.

My favorite designer is… I don't follow any designers but since I have to mention a name, I would say God because it's he who designed me.

My most expensive dress is…. My black sherwani which I bought from Delhi.

My most embarrassing fashion faux pas is… Wearing jail ki vardi but it was for a shoot.

My fashion statement for the season is… Be yourself. No matter what you wear, be confident.

This Kunti is referred to as a gunda. Known for losing her temper if disturbed in the middle of a shot, it doesn't take long to know why Jaya Bhattacharya has been given this tag (gunda) on the sets of Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki.

Ask this actress from Lucknow if there are any more such names and she reveals, "My friends call me Bond or bhai, I am Baba re for dad and Bulbul to the neighbours in Lucknow."

The actress adds, "The day I dress up in a saree, all my friends say 'what's wrong with you, go and get back into your jeans, tu bahut alag lagh rahi hai."

And this actress loves the role of Kunti that she plays in Mahaabhaarat... on the channel 9X. "Kunti was a complete woman. She was strong enough to spend her life as a widow. Her character epitomises inner strength and strong willpower. To put it simply the role is not as easy as it appears."

Very few know that Jaya was also asked to play Ronit Roy's mother in the show Kamal. "Yes, I was offered the role. But then I didn't know who Ronit was. It was only when my co-actor Prashant got Ronit's photo that I saw him. It was the age difference that made me laugh," she confesses.

Frustrated with the kind of work that she has been doing, Jaya was looking for a break and was delighted when Ekta called her for Mahaabhaarat... The actress is also clear acting in a mythological drama is no big deal. "I don't think playing a mythological role can ever stifle an actor's creativity. On the contrary, it gives one an opportunity to do something different. Unlike the role of Payal that I essay in Kyunki... where I created my own style, it is the newness of the role of Kunti that makes the task more challenging and gives me creative liberty," Jaya opines.

Jaya also has something to tell all those who said making Mahabharat is easy. Jaya's explains, "Unlike other daily soaps, the script of an epic can't be changed. Just because a particular actor doesn't come for the shoot you can't ask another actor to speak his dialogues. Besides, there are constraints that a production house has to face. So even if it looks easy, it is certainly difficult."

Honest enough to admit that she never did any research on Kunti, Jaya is quite candid in stating that she never reads the scripts. "I don't like going to the sets with any pre-conceived notions. Nor do I rehearse at home. I have tried doing this and only made a fool of myself," says the actress.

Ask Jaya about camps being formed in the showbiz industry and she says, "I don't believe in the formation of camps. Smriti and Achint are my close friends. Smriti has reached the stature where she can't say anything openly to anybody, nor can I speak my heart out to everybody. But we can do that to each other because we know we won't blurt the secrets out. We have known each other from the time when she started. We don't talk to each other everyday, we know that we are great friends and always there to help each other out. Even though we haven't been to each other's house more than once or so, we can share our problems. It is the same with Achint too. I know these friends are always there to help me when I need them and so am I always for there for them."

And what about moving from the small screen to the silver screen? Jaya reveals that she has been working on, "Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi, Kalpavriksh and Chal Chalein, to name a few," says the actress.

Sindoora will finally die in Dulhann

Here's something which the viewers of Dulhann (Zee TV) have been waiting for long. Sindoora's (Kamya Punjabi) evil deeds will finally come to an end soon.

The latest episodes show Sindoora losing her cool; she gets impatient and finally decides to kill Amar and Vidya. But as per the prediction of an astrologer, Amar or Sindoora, either one has to die, so who will die here remains a big mystery for the viewers.

We asked Kamya herself, who said her character would die soon. But she warned that Sindoora wasn't the type who would go easily, and much would have to happen before she would die.

"The death sequence of Sindoora will be shot in Banaras, but before that she will have to go through a number of things," Kamya said. "she'll get trapped in fire and many other things would happen."

It was in the last birth that Sindoora succeeded in killing Sagar and Divya, but this will however not be the case this time.

So is there a possibility that this time Sindoora would take rebirth and comeback in Amar-Vidya's life?

"I don't think anything of that sort would happen," Kamya said, "but this is television, so you never know! It depends upon the viewers too whether they want Sindoora to come back or not."

To settle the matter, we asked producer Shyam Bhattacharya, who refused to even concede that Sindoora would die at all: "All I can say is that after this death sequence, there are amazing tracks which will come up".

Divyanka Tripathi of Vidya fame also kept us guessing. She says, "According to a babaji, one of them will surely die, he also predicted that if Sindoora dies, then Amar-Vidya would not be happy together and if Amar dies, then obviously it'll be worse. So who will die, still remains a mystery".

Asked what she wanted, she said: "There has been enough of negativity, I think Sindoora should die."

So that settles it then. Unless of course, Sindoora has her third avatar.

Serials back on track

Its good news for serial lovers. Striking film and TV workers are back at work as most of their demands have been met. The strike was called off last evening after the FWICE signed a MoU with the producer's union. Except for the demand that foreigners not being permitted to work in the industry all other demands have been met. But it has been reported that if a foreign crew is hired to shoot in India then a few of the industry's members will have to be included in the team. It has also been decided that neither a TV actor nor a worker will work beyond 12 hours.

According to Film and TV Producers Guild vice-president Dheeraj Kumar, work and shootings resumed at around 8 pm last night. Says Kumar, "There were issues regarding member-to-member working (no non-members of the FWICE should be used by members), shift timings and payments for longer hours. The revised wages had been agreed to 10 months ago but they accepted the terms and signed them today. It is a clear sign of the solidarity in the industry that the three producers' associations and the workers' association sat down to find a solution for the benefit of the industry."

With shooting having commenced for most serials and reality shows its good news for couch potatoes as there is no stopping their favourite soap.

Divyanka and Ali to host 4 2 Ka 1

Producer Bonnie Jain of 4 2 Ka 1 has kept his promise of bringing the most popular actors from TV to the show. It can't get bigger than Rakhi Sawant, Shakti Kapoor, Kashmeera Shah, Krishna Abhishek, Mika, Khayali.

And now it has been confirmed that two hot and happening actors will host the show. The beautiful and charming Divyanka Tripathi and Ali Asgar have been signed on as hosts.

Says a source, "Since Ravi Kissen couldn't give his dates to the show the production house decided to rope in a new pair. So they zeroed down on Divyanka Tripathi of Dulhann fame and Ali Ashgar. It is to be remembered that Saakshi Tanwar and Ravi had hosted Yeh Hai Jalwa along with Smriti Irani and this time the production house wanted Ravi and Saakshi but Ravi couldn't take up the offer due to his prior commitments."

When contacted Ali refused to divulge any details and said, "I can't comment on anything." And Divyanka remained unavailable for comment.

Hope the Divyanka-Ali jodi creates the required magic.

No comeback for Sindoora

After Sindoora's numerous wicked plots, it's finally time to rejoice for Amar (Sharad Malhotra) and Divya (Divyanka Tripathi) on Banoo Main Teri Dulhan as the vamp of the show, Sindoora, has finally died.

A show without a vamp – now that's a first on Indian telly. Won't it affect the TRPs?

"Definitely we will soon have a negative character in the show but we haven't thought about that now. Its only recently that Sindoora has died so presently the story line is focusing on the relationship between Amar and Divya on one side and Bharat and Aditi on the other," says Pradeep, the show's supervising head.

Mohit Malik, who plays Bharat, believes that Sindoora's absence will definitely affect the show as after her exit all the masala has gone.

"Sindoora is what Dulhan is all about… She should come back as her character is very important. I personally feel viewers would love to see her back," says Mohit, "Conflicts hi nahi honge toh logon ko mazaa kya aayega."

So who should then replace Sindoora considering she has been killed in the show?

"I think the most expected baddie in the show presently can be Sindoora's sister Chandra because other characters who are playing positive are way too nice and therefore the viewers won't like it if they turn negative," says Mohit.

I have a reserved dressing sense
Divyanka Tripathi

Define fashion?
Fashion is what you are comfortable in. It is all about you and your own style.

Who chooses your clothes?
I choose my clothes but I like taking an opinion from my mother and sister as they always give me honest opinions.

Do you like to accessorise yourself?
Yes, I love accessorising myself. My favourite accessory is a watch. I also have a huge collection of jewellery. I like wearing a jhumki with salwar suits.

Is there any particular brand that you prefer for clothes?
Not really. I generally wear Indian clothes and there are not many brands in it.

What is your favourite destination for shopping?
My hometown Bhopal. Since I mostly wear Indian dresses, I love shopping from Bhopal. The city is famous for its various embroidery works. Also I know a lot about that place so it becomes easy to shop. I only shop abroad for western clothes.

Which are the clothes that make you feel comfortable?
Indian dresses as I am brought up in a small town and I don't like dressing in a way where people would turn around to look at me. I have a reserved dressing sense.

Who is your favourite designer?
Though I have tried dresses from a few designers, I still have to explore some more to answer this question.

Any particular colour that you like to see in your wardrobe?
White.

A must have in your purse?
Tissues, hair brush and a perfume.

What are the make-up products that you prefer?
I prefer a nude shade lipstick just to make my lips look slightly pink and a blush- on.

A fashion tip.
Be comfortable and confident in what you wear and if you don't feel so, you better wear something else.

A make- up tip.
Highlight your best features. Don't be experimental and try different products as it may harm your skin. Find out what suits you best and wear only that make-up.

Bad back gets Divyanka down

Divyanka Tripathi - Vidya in Banoo Main Teri Dulhan - has been laid low with a slipped disc. And she says she has tried many remedies without relief.

"It started in April when I got a spasm in my shoulder due to over- stress" says Divyanka. After this she was advised by her doctor to rest for a couple of days. Unfortunately, the actress couldn't take a break then and was shooting for Dulhan. It took a whole month, says Divyanka, for her to find the space to finally take some time off and give her battered body a break.

Television has one of the most manic work cultures and six-day 14-hour schedules are the norm for busy actors.

Divyanka says she was unsure that a small thing such as a back spasm could affect her health to the extent it then did. So she went for another test.

"In June when I went for MRI, I was told that my pain was from a slipped disc" says the star. But even this didn't or rather couldn't stop her from work as being a critical part of a daily needs a lot of shots.

As her condition tormented her, Divyanka tried a range of remedies.Initially she chose physiotherapy with allopathic medication. However that didn't cure her completely and she switched to another doctor who, she says, wasn't particularly good. Then she decided to give Neuropathy a go.

"In Neuropathy, they apply acupressure to the affected nerves" explains Divyanka, "Neuropathy gave me relief for a period but the pain aggravated when I had to do some specific sequences".

For the last week, Divyanka has been trying good old Ayurveda. Asked if this had improved her condition, she said: "Ayurveda takes time, but hopefully it will cure me".

The actress wears a belt around her waist while shooting, which she uses even when she's giving her close-ups.

So how does she manage to shoot despite her pain?

"It's all work, life doesn't stop!" says the Dulhan.

Here's wishing Divyanka a speedy recovery!

'My family means the world to me' - Sharad Malhotra

The heart throb of millions, Sharad Malhotra, shares his passions and stress busters, the way he relaxes after a day of hard work and much more...

    What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my work.

    What fires up your passion?
When I probably read my fan mails, or when I see a smile on my mom's face after she's seen me do a good job.

What do you normally do as a way of relaxation after a long day of shoot?
I go out for a long drive with my friends or I catch up with a nice movie or dinner. If I am really tired, then I relax by sitting by the seaside.

    What's your stress buster?
There is no particular stress buster as such, but sometimes when I am tired after a long shoot and my mom calls me up or I hear my niece laugh on the phone, it relieves my stress a lot. Something that soothes me is a big stress buster for me.

You think shopping eases your stress?
Yes I enjoy shopping. I usually go alone and randomly pick up clothes for myself. I do believe that retail therapy is stress busting, but when you get the bill after shopping, it adds to your stress (laughs).

    How do you chill out?
For me chilling out time is always when I am not shooting. I get up at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, have lunch and then plan out something with friends, maybe hang out at some nice place with something nice to eat. I usually avoid calls when chilling out.

    What are your Hobbies?
Marshal arts and traveling. I have recently started to learn horse riding too.

If given a choice to make a career out of your hobby or passion, what would you choose?
Well, I am passionate about whatever I do. And like I said, I am very passionate about my work. Meeting my fans, seeing a smile on my mom's face drives me to work harder on my passion.

What are your priorities in life?
My family is my biggest priority. Initially when I came to Mumbai it was work, but slowly I realize that there is nothing without family. You might be the most successful man on earth but if you don't have your family to share your success with, you are no one. Such success is worthless.

Do you consider exercising as a good stress buster?
I love exercising. I have been regularly working out in the last couple of months and have even appointed my own personal instructor.

Who is your biggest energy booster?
    My mom.
