So there she was again, standing speechless in front of Sagar. Sagar still had the confused look on his face as he saw her there. "Vidya? What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Ah…" was all Vidya could manage in response as her eyes were still glued to Sagar. He noticed that and smiled as he walked back into the room leaving the door open for her and asked "How did you get in?" He grabbed the TV remote and turned the TV off and looked back towards the door again as Vidya still stood there. She didn't answer him so he answered himself, "Let me guess, you got in through the garage." This time she did smile and nodded.
"So, you want to come in?" he asked smiling.
And before she knew it she was walking towards him. One mistake on top of another one, there was no limit on the number of mistakes that Vidya had yet to make when she was around Sagar. She was fully aware of that but those mistakes to her felt so right. Some mistakes are worth making, she thought as she stood in front of him again, just staring. He couldn't help but laugh.
Okay, that offended Vidya a little. "What's so funny?" she asked.
"You!" he answered. "Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked.
One would think that would make Vidya look away from him but she didn't. She smiled and said, "Because I can. You got a problem with that?"
"Nope," he said as he sat down on his bed and looked up at her and asked "So what brings you here at this hour?"
She had to think for a minute to remember. "I came to thank you."
That came as a shock to him, Vidya actually thanking him. "For what?" he had to ask.
"The necklace you bought for me."
"So you finally opened that envelope, huh?" he asked as he stretched his legs straight in front of him and crossed them at the ankles.
She nodded once again. But this time Sagar could notice the blush on her cheeks and knew that she didn't come there to only say thank you. He grinned and said, "So that is it? You came to thank me, right?"
"Yep!" she said immediately.
He smiled and said "Okay then. That is done. Why are you still standing here?"
How rude. She looked at him with furious eyes and gave serious consideration to strangling him. She saw him smiling and couldn't take it and immediately turned around in anger and started walking towards the door. Just when she was about to exit the door she heard him laughing. That did it. She turned around and walked back towards him. "You know, that is typical you. You don't care about others or what they might feel because of your stupid actions. All you care about is…"
"I care about you," he said before she could even finish her sentence. He stood up in front of her and said it again. "I care about you, Vidya."
Okay, she was not going to fall for that. "No, you don't!" she shouted back.
"Yes, I do!" he answered back as he walked a little closer to her as she stood at the same spot.
"You don't!" She shouted again. "I do," he said again as he took more steps towards her. Before she could shout the same thing again Sagar grabbed her by her jaw to bring her face closer to his and said "If I didn't care for you, you would not have returned home as a virgin from that trip."
Vidya just stared at him as she saw the fury in his eyes. But that didn't stop her from being angry. She brought her right hand up and pushed his hand off of her jaw and said "how romantic!"
He saw the look on her face and knew that he had said too much and if she stayed there any longer he would more than likely say something that he would regret later. He took a few steps backwards and said "Go home, Vidya!"
She raised a brow. Who was he to tell her what to do? "No!" She said and crossed her arms standing at the same spot. He shook his head and said "Don't do this, Vidya. You might regret it!"
Interesting, she thought. So there was more to Sagar than she thought. "What exactly might I regret?"
She was testing his patience. He had never been so attracted to someone and tried so hard to stay away before. She was not making it easier for him. He didn't know how much longer he could hold himself back. He wanted her out of his room as soon as possible. "Go home, Vidya!"
She didn't move a muscle. She was playing with fire. It was as if something took over her and she lost her ability to be sensible. "No! You wanted me here. Now I am here."
He grinned and knew that he had Vidya right where he wanted her. But then his grin vanished as he thought about the consequences and knew he would have to hurt Vidya's feelings to get her out of the room for her own wellbeing. So he said "You are stupid, Vidya! Nothing can happen between us. I am just attracted to you. I am here in this town for only a week and probably will never be back here again. Yet you still show up at my place. You seriously could not get any stupider."
That hurt. But she did her best to hold her tears back. She would have taken that as an insult but she didn't. The tears were for the emotions she saw in Sagar's eyes when he spoke. She knew he was lying. He was trying to get her out of his room because he was afraid of his very own emotions. She had never wanted anything more in her life than Sagar. She knew how stupid she was being. If he was really going to leave after a week and not ever come back in her life like he said then how could she walk away from him?
Sagar saw her thinking and also saw the tears that she was trying to hold back. Vidya didn't know what to do. So she brought her head up and looked at Sagar in a way that made his heart skip a beat.
She smiled and said "Alright, I'll go home. But will you be able to live with the fact that I showed up at your door and you let me walk away?" She knew what she was talking about. Sagar knew that it was going to haunt him for the rest of his life. He always got what he wanted and here he was making Vidya walk away. He genuinely cared for her. Why did he have to care for her? He asked himself and shook his head. Vidya saw him thinking and shook her head and knew she was not going to get an answer from him. So she sighed and turned around and started walking away. Is this how it was going to end? She couldn't believe it. This couldn't be it.
Sagar saw her walking away and closed his eyes and took a deep sigh. Before Vidya could walk out of the door, the door closed as a hand from behind her pushed the door closed stopping her from leaving. She turned and looked to the left and saw Sagar standing there with his hand still on the door. He turned his head and asked "Why did you come here tonight, Vidya. And let's not talk crap. Be honest."
Alright, she was going to be honest, even if it killed her. She thought it was going to be tough keeping eye contact with him and speaking the truth. But to her surprise, it was not difficult at all. "I came here tonight because for once, I decided to be selfish. I started thinking that I deserve to be happy. But who was I kidding, right?"
He raised a brow and moved his hand from the door but said nothing.
Vidya let out a nervous laugh and said, "Being with you makes me happy, Sagar. Even though you make me angry, I still can't help but think about you all the time. If you didn't show interest in me, I would have lived my life thinking that a Sagar came into my life and went away. But ever since you told me that you want me, I can't stop smiling. When it hit me that I might never see you again. I felt if someone was suffocating me and I couldn't stop the force. So I came here to stop feeling suffocated. Is it wrong for me to ask me for my happiness? I mean it all sounds silly, doesn't it?"
He smiled and subconsciously brought his right hand up and ran it through hair pushing it away from her face. She closed her eyes and smiled as she felt the palm of his hand on her cheek. She turned her head slightly and kissed his palm. She sensed Sagar moving closer and opened her eyes. As soon as she made eye contact with Sagar, he moved back as he pulled his hand back and said, "You are not in your senses, Vidya. I can't ruin your life like this."
Sagar was right. Vidya was not in her senses. But was she ever when she was around Sagar? She walked towards him and wrapped her arms around his waist resting her head on his chest and knew that she was with the man she loved and there would be no other man that she would ever be able to fall in love with. Sagar didn't move and just stood there. Vidya felt Sagar's heart beat fasten and chuckled. She couldn't help it but find the situation funny. All these years she made fun of Sanju for being a stupid girl and chasing Chinu and not caring about a thing society would say. Sanju had told her that she would never understand until she fell in love and now she completely understood. Sagar heard her chuckling and looked down at her head as she was still hugging him and asked "What is so funny?"
Vidya, with her arms still around him, brought her head up and looked up at him with the most loving eyes Sagar had ever looked into. She smiled and said, "You are funny! A girl is practically throwing herself at you and you are feeling guilty."
Sagar smiled as he pulled her away first and then lifted her up in his arms. Vidya was taken by surprise and giggled. Sagar stood at the same spot and said "I am not feeling totally guilty, yet." Vidya laughed and said, "Just FYI, Chinu is going to kill me and more than likely you, too. I just thought I should give you a heads up."
Sagar laughed as he walked towards the bed with Vidya still in his arms and said, "Hey, what he doesn't know won't hurt him." Vidya smiled and shook her head as she realized that they were both on the same page. This was just between Sagar and Vidya and they never intended on telling anyone. Well, they weren't entirely on the same page. Sagar might move on and forget about Vidya but Vidya knew that she would never be able to forget Sagar and she would never let another man in her life.
