Yes, Hiten can be rude and combative but only when he is fighting for something he believes in. You know what was most telling was how he dealt with Monghi when she was bossing him around. If he was truly a rude person, don't you think he would have dealt harshly with the child, instead he just bickered along with her at her level. At least he picks his fights against people is own size. It's not as if DM & Tarulata can't more than hold their own against him. And as for Santo, she should just not interfere in matters that don't concern her.

As for Khemi doesn't everyone remember that she was the one who objected to DM marrying Santo. Inspite of the villager's being so impressed that DM was marrying one of their own and even Nanaji's consent, Khemi's first concern was for her sister's well being. And she was really angry when she found out about DM's kids. As for convincing Santo to marry Ramesh, both Santo & her were brought up knowing they will have an arranged marriage and a proposal like Ramesh's was the abut the best they could hope for. She didn't want Santo to lose out on a good home just because of guilt about her.
It was only after she met HIten, she realised there is more to life than just meekly accepting your lot in life cos you're poor and your horoscope isn't right. And mind you that's the only reason anyone is giving against her marriage to Hiten. Who wouldn't rebel against the injustice of that?
Anyway, by tomorrow there is the great possibilty they will completely blacken Hiten & Khemi's characters and that will be the end of all arguments.

Agree with you Haooy,

Hiten is just too irritating for words..
And I will quote Aisha here..

WHAT did Hiten mean when he said 'I'd have answered you too had you not been my father'

There is a limit to everything!

And it's just not the love-struck Hiten, he has always been un-necessarily rude...

The arrogance and rude behaviour of Hiten is one of the things I like about this character. From the start we've seen he's not someone to bow down to anyone including his father. He has immense respect for his father but they still have a lot of issues to work through. Almost all his kids and DM himself has admitted that after their mother's death he stopped being a father and becoming a malik at home too.

As for limits, DM has done so much damage to both his son's opinions of him. He too needs to make concessions before he can expect Hiten to ask him or let him be involved in crucial decisions Hiten makes about his life.

Hiten would lose his appeal as a fresh and original character if he did beg and whimper or even attempt to sacrifice his love after knowing Khemi's feelings. I don't exactly agree with the methods of Hiten and Khemi but I do like that a love story hasn't changed the essence of Hiten's character.

There's nothing about Hiten losing his charm as a fresh and original character if he learns a thing or two about how to talk to adults .. or by definition, how he talks to people elder to him .. there is a way of putting forth contrasting view-points .. which Hiten is yet to learn .. being rebellious does not translate to rude!

Plus KHEMI is also so irritating ..instead of understanding that her sisters household will get disturbed & above that ,SHE IS MAANGLIK & thats why everone is worried for HIten..she should have put her foot down not marry him ..so that HIten will not be affcted by any bad omen..instead both Khemi & Hiten are acting LIKE FOOLS..I am terribly irritated....This thing is getting dragged too much..I dont like this at all..! All I can say is HITEN IS A VERY SELF CENTERD PERSON..whose aim is only to hurt his father..and nothing else..

very well said

That is your view which many of us here do not share. I would say most characters in the show have shown different digrees of selfishness. DM is selfish too which is why he married Santu in the first place (in to ensure that his business does not suffer. Did he bother about how his children would take it? He tried to stash away his new bride and hoped after he ties the knot, the girl would just be banished into oblivion and he does not have to face the consequences). No wonder Hiten does not miss an opportunity to rub it in to DM. Of course he understands Santu's plight. Was he not one of the first to point it out to his father that he has married a naive girl who is young enough to be his daughter, only for his selfish purposes? Why was he rude to Santo then? Because she was being interfering and preventing him from telling his father the truth about him and Khemi. She was trying to play mother to him which he does not like or care. She was telling him what he has to do which obviously he did not like.
As to falling at his father's feet, Hiten is not the character to fall at anyone's feet if he is not convinced that he is wrong. As far as he is concerned he has done no wrong in loving Khemi or wanting to marry him. He has an ego as big as his father. His father treated Santo so badly so many times. Did we see him apologise directly for all of them when he realised his mistake?
Yes, Hiten is rough in his dealings with people but he is also a guy who has a sensitive heart. He cares a lot for his father and has defended him in the presence of his father's enemies. But this is his life and he does not want anyone (including his father) to interfere with that. Why did he wait for so long? Yes, this was a mistake. He should have confessed his love earlier and not wait for Khemi to confess first but better late than never.
As to this marriage, if Khemi marries Shambu, three lives would be affected. I think 'honour' an take a back seat when so many lives are at stake. Shambu himself is not willing for this alliance, knowing about Khiten.
As to stupidity, Hiten is not the only stupid one in the show. I think all the adults in the show have acted stupidly at some point or other (except may be Champakali).

i agree with u completely my dear

Very well said usha...

Waiting for two days before your wedding to confess your 'love' to the person whom you apparantly cannot live without reeks of nothing but selfishness..When you have made a commitment, it is your duty to go through with it.. And Hiten has been the last person who has gone through with anything..In this matter both Hiten and Khemi have been very very selfish.. And Hiten has proven time and again that the only reason he does something is to go against his father..

And the thing about him being rude. Yes he is and no excuse can whitewash this part. He has been exceedingly annoyingly rude right from day one. Our culture teaches us to be respectful and polite to our parents. No matter what they say, you dont go telling them that they are not fit to be your parents. That is just not done..

I agree with you Nupur.but do you know why this topic has been opened?wait I'll tell you.
when are u bad, they say ur bad
when ur good, they say ur a good actor
when u abuse them ,they say u abused them
when u respect them, they say ur a good politician
when u hate people they ask why u hate them
when u love them they say it was a nice game
when u hurt them, they say u hurt them
when u give them happiness, they ask you whats ur self interest
when u laugh with them ur family
when u cry,ur a big bore
beat them and they will come yelling after u
give them a treat and they'll still say 'there is something ur hiding, aren't you?
so hiten ji,stop being what u are and the world will still hate u.u know why?there's nothing dm can be appreciated for except for wearing a silk butterscotch kurta, interfering in other's discussion's by raising his hand and being falsely called dharampur ka maalik.what an irony?from the very begginning I could'nt recall a single instance when his decision has done 'nyaay' to anybody.can anybody recall?
so I think there has to be some shortcomings in hiten which makes dm a better person and santu a better malkin as she can be a wellwisher of the whole dharampur excluding his own sister from the list
right guys?

Boosi... agree with you completely!
Hiten has been very rude to his father people. Let us just accept the truth. Those of us from India, raised in India, brought up by parents who are from India, understand that respecting one's parents and elders is an important point in our culture. Hiten can disagree with his father, but saying he would hit him if not for being his dad, or taunting him for marrying Santo (when he knows very well his dad and Santo are both struggling through that marriage) is not the right thing to do. Hiten is educated. He should be able to express his views firmly, but respectfully.
If Champakali and little Birwa could understand that DM is a hard nut from outside but soft from inside like a coconut, why not Hiten? Because he is prejudiced against DM. So he does not think through carefully, in an unbiased manner.

i can't stand hiten or khemi.. i feel really bad for dm for having kids that never make him look good but alway bad.. first it was kaddu now hiten.. all the kids have learned from dm is to fall in love never learned anything like doin g a job or anything like that.. i am also surprised at khemi.. that she gives lovey looks to hiten when he is nice to nanaji or mongi but what about when he so rude to santu she does not feel anything. also hiten keeps saying that he has lived with villagers and know everything and respects them but never respects santu eventhough she saved his own sis and also she is from the same village and untill about few months ago lived just like khemi..
