The earlier marriage was sabotaged by his sadu bhai , ie his dead wife's brother in law .. means her sister's hubby as he and DM were fighting for the same contract ..

Santo got caught in this as her elder sis could not marry as she was termed a unlucky manglik by the astrologer .. Dharampur is a village full of employees of DM's diamond works .. he HAD to please them as Virat aka his sadu bhai had lured the workers from all the nearby villagers and big ones like Surat from going to DM ..

Ah. I get it now. What I still don't get is why a marriage would please the workers and prevent them from leaving to work in another company.

Because ..

According to them, their malik aka DM can do no wrong .. and it was well known throughout that the earlier wedding was arranged by DM .. so now that the groom did not turn up .. he would have been blamed for the mistake!

They were being instigated to stop work on the tender !

Because they were the grand-daughters of DM's most skilled craftsman Madhav Solanki .. and if he would have arranged a successful marriage for them, the whole village and more so, his best craftsman would have worked for him with more dedication and get the work done ASAP !
