Is Ganga an object?

Today's episode was disturbing in one way because throughout the entire Jag-Sumi convo Ganga was standing behind Jagya and Sumitra and listening to them
My question?
Is Ganga an object? Something without feelings?Someone without any self respect?

When Sumitra was mouthing off dialogues like" Why should we care about a stranger" and "Do we have to tolerate Ganga all our lives" nobody seemed to notice or care that Ganga was listening to this. Why is that? Doesn't anybody care if the words hurt or humiliate her?

Sumitra does not want Ganga in her life or house. I may not approve but it's her opinion and I have to respect that. But that doesn't mean she can get away with taunting or hurting Ganga in public

Let me ask Sumitra a question? If Ganga had been a rich, educated woman with a host of brothers to protect her would you have dared to insult her in such a thorough manner and treat her in a way you treat a dog? Would you?

I have sometimes felt that the Badi Haveli family are a little prompt to treat Ganga as someone who has no opinions of her own and someone who can be taken for granted. Yes, I agree they have done a great deal for Ganga but that does not give them the right to consider her as a pet which can be disposed of or treated in whichever way they wish. First Dadisa emotionally blackmails her into staying, then Sumi decides she doesn't want her, then Jagya drags her into hospital quarters, then Sumi publicly humiliates her while Dadisa looks on quietly...I mean, she is not a toy, but a real live human being with human emotions and you can't play with her like this!!!

Ganga might take all the insults and stay quiet, but that's only because of the loyalty and gratitude she feels for the Singhs. Does that mean they can walk all over her, whenever and wherever they please and turn her into their personal servant?

Either tell the girl to clear off in the beginning or commit yourself to helping her and STICK to IT. Don't toy with her life

Exactly the thought that came to my mind today .

That so much is said of Sumitra's point of view , how it is so natural etc but

did anyone think of that silent , trembling abused woman standing and listening to the fears about how terrible her existence was

what must she have felt

blamed for something thats not her fault , branded as an apshaguni , such women commit suicide

Sumitra could not wait till she got home and then talk to her son , she HAD to make tamasha in the hospital in FRONT of her

she HAD to convey her hatred

it is much more than conveying fears to Jagya , its cutting the root of any fantasies of Ganga to become a haveli bahu

not that any such thoughts r in her mind , far from it though she silently worships Jagya she has no intention of telling him , its her private innermost thought .

Sumitra wants a rich , virgin as her bahu and is threatened by the sympathy that Jagya has for the abused woman as she is very young . So simple .

But dear - isn't that the very reason that Jagya chose to stand there and defend her and explain why and how far he intends to support her for ?

Jagya was in Ganga's corner. He didn't treat her like an object and drag her to the hospi as you suggest. He felt a responsibility for her and took her to the hospi when she was on the street and not in her senses. That is caring - that is not objectifying.

Basant was in Ganga's corner too. As was Gehna. DS too with her silent support. Sumi was alone in her vituperative outburst and thankfully she stormed out when she realized she was out numbered.

Ganga may feel unwanted by Sumi today - but she wud also feel looked after and cared for and loved -by all the rest.

We do not own the ones we are kind to - but also - it is a fact that the ones in need of care - sometimes don't have the choice to dictate terms about how they wud like to be treated.

I don't see where Ganga was treated as an object by the Singh family members.

They all have different opinions about Ganga.

For Sumi she is an outsider whom she gave shelter and she will only do so much for an outsider. She gives her all to her family and if anything remaining she will give it to the outsider.

For Bhairon helping Ganga and protecting her and seeing that she comes to know harm is part of his duty as a human even though he does not owe anything to her.

For Basant and Gehna Ganga is soemone who helped them.

For DS helping Ganga standing on her own two feet will help her forget the way she cut off the wings of all her daughters in law including Anandi..

For Jagya Ganga is someone who will help him wash away all the wrongs he has committed towards Anandi. He wants to redeem himself in his own eyes by doing something for Ganga.

In no way was she considered as an object.

They are all having dispute within themselves in figuring out how far they would go out to help Ganga.

Sumi's treatment of Ganga has got nothing to do with the fact that Ganga is poor and helpless.
Even Anandi was poor helpless and uneducated when Jagya left her but she supported Anandi because she was her family.

well, don't think ganga was treated as an object as jagan, basant, gehnna were always with her.

but why was sumitra shouting at the top of her voice in the hospital...her first reaction as per her character on seeing ganga & mannu should have been of relief that they are safe...which was not so...she was shocked and angry...what does that mean...that she just doesnt care whatever happened to ganga & the kid 😡...i think she is simply scared that ganga may become jagan's beendi soon 😆..that she may take place of dear anandi in singh family...and the biggest reason...sumitra has realized that ganga is very much like anandi 😊 and sanchi is not! and that her son is sub-consciously attracted to ganga and hasn't yet realized it 😉...and guess sumitra doesn't want anyone to take anandi's place 😕

also she wants an uncomplicated wife for her son 😆 but she has no idea what she will be getting into with sanchi.

This is in continuation of my previous post in this thread.

Seeing Ganga as a member of family. They all except Sumi think she is almost like a member of their family.

But none of them have seen Ganga as a prospective DIL of the family yet. That thought has not crossed their minds yet.Simply because she comes with her own set of problems which need to be solved. They are too busy to think that far.So the question of rejecting her as a prospective DIL does not arise.

There have been posts that Sumi is not thinking of Jagya's happiness. But Jagya himself does not see Ganga in that way.He may see Anandi in Ganga and traces of Ratan in himself but that does not mean he is ready to make a place for her in his life yet.
Same way DS may find a lot of similarities between Anandi and Ganga that does not mean she is ready to give Ganga the place vacated by Anandi.

Sumi knows that there are a lot of similarities between Ganga and Anandi. She knows if given a chance Ganga can very well fill in the gap thta is left by Anandi and she does not want to yield that place to anyone else.It is irrational but she thinks she will be doing injustice to Anandi if she accepts Ganga. She already feels that by giving away Anandi to Shiv she has somehow feels that she has given away what belongs to her son to an outsider and if she starts caring for Ganga she feels that what belongs to Anandi she is giving away to Ganga. This is not the right way to feel but she can't help the way she feels. Ganga will remind them of Anandi and their loss so she does not want her in her life.

As for accepting Sanchi as DIL she knows that Sanchi is not like Anandi and can never take Anandi's place in their hearts and it is much easier to accept her and make place for Sanchi in their lives.

I think what is needed is - clarity about Sumitra's feelings, fears, thoughts, ambitions.

We have seen her being loving n caring for Ganga n taking good care of her sick child too. So why this irrational hatred - knowing Ratan is safely behind bars without any hope of an early release ??

I hope the CV's will show us Sumi's demons n also show Dadisa chasing those demons away n bring back the sweet sane loving Sumi she has always been.

excellent post...and i agree with u...
this is the nature of every human being to hurt & dominate the weaker one more...as this is a very easy thing to do!...just bcoz here ganga is tolarating everything that doesn't mean that sumitra has the right to hurt her againg & again!!...

Interesting post. I feel ganga not speaking is better because the family is having a heated argument. Except sumitra, Everyone in the family is kind to her. Ganga does not hate sumitra. She is just numb at the turn of events.
