Epilogue: Baby Season

One Year Later-

"Jaldi karna Gehna, samaroh ke liye der ho jayegi!" Basant was pacing while Gehna was getting their 4 month old daughter Radhika ready for her first outdoor event other than one major event she had attended 2 months ago. She was a premature baby, so they took utmost care of her, but there was no way that Gehna could have missed Shiv and Anandi's wedding! And she sure as hell, wasn't going to miss today's event.

Such a sense of nervous excitement filled Badi Haveli. It rivalled the happiness they had felt when Anandi had come for her pag-pheras a week after her wedding. But this celebration was bittersweet- Anandi and Shiv would leave Jaitsar for Udaipur less than a fortnight after today. He was finally getting transferred. They both had refused to let the villagers spend a dine on any sort of farewell party. Only a simple pooja had been planned at Circuit House.

Sumitra and Bhairon were running behind Nandkishore, Varun and Shagun, worried that they would be late while Dadisa would suddenly scream out, "Thaari badi hove, kitni der lagave ho!" in the midst of her conversation with the guests. She was sitting in the living area with Shyam, Sugna, Lal Singh, Kesar (who had her son, Karan, in her arms), Abhishek and a heavily pregnant Asha.

Finally, everyone came downstairs except Ganga and Jagya.

"Lo aa gaye!" said Shyam.

Mannu was holding on to his father's little finger as he dragged Jagdish down the stairs. Ganga had little Maya in her arms. She was Jagdish and Gauri's daughter who they had found out about only 6 months ago when Gauri died in a car accident. But Ganga loved her as if she were her own.

As the Singh started heading towards the venue, there was a lot of chaos at Circuit House. It reminded Anandi of her wedding reception all over again, the most dramatic part of which had been Mahi and Ashima's surprise engagement!

"Chalo, chalo, we're getting late!" Sanchi was yelling.

"Haan haan Dr Doll!" said Shiv, pulling her cheek. Sanchi had been very inspired by Jagdish's work as a doctor that she had joined medical school. She had just completed her first year.

"We're all ready but Desi Girl kaha hai?" Ashi had permanently relocated to India after Shiv and Anandi's wedding.

"Aa gayi Bhabhi!" Mahi exclaimed.

Anandi looked absolutely dazzling in a beautiful red and green sari that reminded Shiv of their wedding night.. Hmmm..

When everyone reached the event and all the family and friends of the chief guest, Anandi Shekhar, had been seated in the front rows, respected teachers of Jaitsar, Phooli and Gulli took the stage. It was the inauguration of the Jaitsar Junior College of Science, Commerce and Arts!

After the ribbon cutting and a cultural programme, Anandi was called on stage to say a few words. She smiled and took her husband on the stage as well.

"Yeh mere jeevan ka sabse bada sapna tha jo aaj mere pati, Shri Shivraj Shekhar ki mehnat aur lagan ki wajah se saakaar hua hai," she turned to smile at him. "Yeh mere liye shaadi ka sabse bada tohfa hai.. Um, mere pati ke baad!" Everyone laughed. She asked Shiv to say something.

"Agar Anandi ne iss sapne ke beej khud na boye hote toh main kuch bhi na kar paata." This was true. A year ago, when their wedding had been fixed, it had become common practice for Shiv to head over to Jaipur to meet Anandi. Though many of these visits were meant to be consultancy meetings with the last Sarpanch of Jaitsar, there was a lot of romance in the air. Through their efforts, the foundation stone had been laid 2 months later on the eve of their engagement.

"Ab hum yahaan se jaa zarur rahe hai par hum chahte hai ki badlaav ki yeh aag jalti rahe.." Shiv continued. "Aapki Teacher ji zarur ab Udaipur ke charitable school for girls mein padha rahi ho, par kaan kheechne yahaan aati rahengi."

They ended their speech amidst gales of laughter.

As they were all heading home, the Singhs invited the Shekhars for lunch the next day.

"Kayi bulayo hai, yeh kal aapko pata chal javega!" giggled Dadisa.

But Shiv and Anandi had already gotten the good news from their best friends, Jagya and Ganga. Ganga was pregnant!

"Kyu Nurse Sahiba, koi khush-khabri hai kya?" Anandi whispered to Ganga while Shiv nudged Jagdish.

"Anandi ji, thaara samay aavego na, tha main bhi aisi badmashiyan karungi..!" Ganga said, blushing.

Thinking of the future made Shiv and Anandi go into one of their famous eyelocks and lose sight of everyone else. They only broke out of their stupor when Mahi and Ashi teased them to general laughter.

As they all laughed and headed home in good spirits, little did Anandi and Shiv know that, exactly a year from now, they would be in the hospital celebrating the birth of their daughter, Anshika.
