Ganga had been passing by the Dadisa's room at that time. She stopped when she heard of her grandmother-in-law was saying.

"Mhane toh keh diya ki hum bhi kai dino yehi soch rahe the.. Toh saari baat pakki hi samjho!", Dadisa's words had brought expressions of joy on everyone's faces. They knew that Anandi was now ready to consider marriage and everyone felt that Shiv was perfect for her. "Bas unhone kaha hai ki hum ek baar chori se pooch le, phir baat aage badhayenge."

Ganga was delighted to hear all this. She rushed in to offer her two cents. To everyone's joy, she told them that Jagya, Mahi, Sanchi and she had felt the same and they had tried to make Anandi and Shiv spend time together. She also told everyone how this scheme seemed to have brought very positive results.

"Arre wah! Aisi baat hai toh main abhi unn logon se keh deti hu ki humari bhi haan hai!", Dadisa was excited. Ganga rushed to tell Jagdish the good news.

"Yeh tum kya keh rahi ho, Ganga? Aur tumne bhi sabki haan-mein-haan mila li?", Jagya ran out of his room to stop Dadisa from calling Daddu.

"Kayi roke hai mhaare ko, Jagdees?", Dadisa asked. She was suspicious that her grandson was being selfish again.

"Dadisa, Bapusa, Maa, aap sab itni jaldbaazi kyu kar rahe hai? Anandi kal hi aapse ek saal maanga tha aur aaj aapne rishta pakka kar diya.", he explained. "Anandi aur Shiv ke mann mein kya hai, yeh toh kisine poocha hi nahi. Agar un dono mein se kisi ek ki ya dono ki naa hui, toh unki dosti bhi bigad jayegi!"

"Shib ki toh haan hi hogi.. Warna uske Daddu mhaare se itni badi baat kayi kehte?"

"Jaise humne maan liya ki Anandi ki haan hi hogi, waise hi unhone bhi galat samjha ho toh? Main nahi chahta ki hum dono se haan ya naa mein jawab pooche aur phir kisi ek ka bhi dil tuten.", Jagya was very concerned about his friends. "Agar Shiv ko yeh sab pata hota toh woh mujhe zarur batata."

"Toh ab hum kya karein, Jagya?", Bhairon asked. Everyone seemed to see the truth of Jagya's words.

"Bapusa, pehle mein Mahi se poochta hu ki unhone Shiv ke baat ki hai kya.", Jagya said.

"Hey Jagdish! Kaise ho?", Mahi said when he picked up the phone.

"Main theek hu, Mahi.. Par", he explained all that Daddu and Dadisa had planned and his views of the matter.

"Oh God, yeh Daddu bhi na! Zarur woh sabko surprise karne nikle hai!", Mahi explained. "Bhaiya se toh unhone koi baat nahi ki hai aur na hi hum mein se kisi ko bataya! Mujhe, maa aur Daddu ko chodkar baaki sab toh Udaipur mein hai!"

He told Jagya that he would speak to Daddu and call him back.

"Daddu, yeh mein kya sunn raha hu?", Mahi's nose was flaring. "Aapne Bhaiya se pooche bina unka rishta kyu pakka kar diya?"

When Daddu explained that this was his idea of a pleasant surprise, Mahi told him how Anandi wanted a year's time and how Shiv had never said that he loved her. He also explained what a terrible impact a rejection would have on their friendship. Daddu saw his folly but felt that they shouldn't sweep this under the rug.

"Agar Anandi ne ek saal maanga hai, toh hum pehle Shiv se poochte hai ki woh kya chahta hai? We can always wait a year for marriage if Anandi and Shiv agree.", he said. "Aisa na ho ki hum na assume karein aur actually dono ke mann mein haan ho!"

"Hmm. Theek hai. Toh main Bhaiya se baat karta hu.", Mahi agreed.

But in Shiv's room, he got a little nervous as to how to proceed. After a little chit-chat-

"Toh Bhaiya, aajkal aap Bhabhi Ji ke baare mein kuch khaas nahi bolte.. Kya baat hai?", Mahi asked, grinning.

"Mahi! Tujhse kitni baar kaha hai ki aise mat bola kar!", Shiv growled.

"But Bhaiya, you guys are seeing each other, right? Girlfriend hai na woh aapki?", Mahi probed.

"No! Of course not."

"Kyu? Ab aap unhein pasand nahi karte?"

"Aisa nahi hai.. Its just that she has made it very clear that she doesn't want to get involved. Woh Jaitsar mein ek college start karna chahti hai and then she wants to work here, as a teacher.", he explained.

"Then how can she have a future with a travelling civil servant like me?", he continued.

"So you're giving up?", Mahi was disappointed.

"No!", laughed Shiv. "I really, really like her. But I want to take it slow. Give it a year. Let her complete her studies and then revisit this. Till then, I'm happy being the friend she needs me to be."

Mahi relayed the whole thing to his Daddu and they both decided that it was best to let this go till Anandi's studies were over or either party, explicitly, changed their mind.

"Hello, Kalyani ji?", Daddu called Dadisa to clear the air. He explained how he had made an error in judgement and both of them agreed on the lets-wait-a-year decision.

"Aapko bura toh na laga na, Shekhar Sahab?", Dadisa's words reached Anandi's ears. She had come there searching for everyone and saw that they were all in her grandmother's room.

'Why is Dadisa talking to Shiv's Daddu?', she stood at the door to listen.

Dadisa listened for a little while and then said, "Ji, ji, khamba ghani."

Turning to the family, she said, "Unhone bhi Shiv-Anandi ke byaah ka prastaav wapas le liya." Hearing this, there was a terrible pain in Anandi's chest, suspiciously close to her heart.

"Unhe bura toh na laga na ki Anandi ek saal rukna chave hai?", Sumitra asked.

"Na, na, woh samajh gaye. Aur phir unke pote ne hi unhein samjha diya ki yeh rishta kayi na judna chahiye. Toh woh maan gaye."

Anandi felt like crying. She thought that Shiv had rejected her because he didn't want to wait a year for her! She didn't know that Dadisa was talking about Mahi. She ran away to her room.

"Mahi ne unhein bataya ki Shib saal bhar rukne ke liye taiyar hai. Toh abhi iss baat ko yahi rok dena theek hoga.", Dadisa continued. Everyone was happy to hear how understanding Shiv is. They all departed to their rooms.

Anandi was in her room, crying. She had not realised that she had developed feelings for Shiv. But now she could see that ever since that first day, that first flirt, she had thought they would somehow end up together. She had felt that they were meant to be, like in a fairytale. But she decided not to blame him for her assumptions. He was obviously a cut above her (or so she felt in that moment of despair). She decided to just be his assistant for another month and then leave this whole mess behind.

As the love of his life was wallowing in misguided disappointment, Shiv was smiling in the hope that he might be able to change Anandi's mind in the coming month. He had a plan and a surprise for her; if it all worked out, she would be his girlfriend by the time she went back to college.



Next Time- Will the surprise visit of Shiv's best friend, Ashima increase Anandi's misunderstandings? Or will it give their relationship the boost it needs? Stay tuned for the next part!

Oooh, I just read thru this last part again and it has so many typos and grammatical errors! I'm doing this on my phone and this was a really long part, so its quality went down.
