The reality of balika vadhu

We were given to believe that the story of balika vadhu was about girls who had aspirations -- and whose aspirations were cut because of early/child-marriage and they were forced to become beendhnis.
It has come to me after a long time that the reality of balika vadhu is that this is the story of several girls whose sole aspiration in life was to be only a beendhni at a young age -- be it anandi, gauri or suguna or asha.
One (gauri) views her medical education as a cheap default mechanism that she "had" to take up because her child marriage got destroyed and she never had the chance to become a beendhni of the badi haveli. There is considerable regret for that child marriage coming undone -- and her aspiration of being dadisa's beendhni was squelched.
The other (anandi) despite being bright, only views education as something to become Mrs. Jagadish Singh -- she wants education only to become his equal. The moment she has the option of becoming educated for herself, she backs off and decides to be satisfied with her 12th pass education and giving speeches.
The third (suguna) had a father who waited until she was 16 to get her married -- a rarity that he did not get her married at 8. He wanted to educate her, but she was not interested. Eventually, she got pregnant out of wedlock -- ultimately sealing the idea in viewer's minds that girls not married early will give way to physical lust if they are left till their teens to be married off -- so please get them married at 8.
The fourth (asha) has a brother/cousin like shyam who is broadminded and a sasra like madan singh who has eventually come round -- both are of a broadminded mentality and asha has every resource available to her -- yet she prefers to hang around in a dark basement and go to meet the nutcase sadhu for entertainment.
This is what it is. The rest is just sort of farce that it is about girls education or women's emancipation. The reality is that this is the story of girls whose sole aspirations in life are to be beendhnis. Which is fine. Not my place to judge. But why make fools of viewers by pretending to be the opposite?

u have summed it up in an awesome way tinoo.yes.they have always glorified the marriage of girls at an early age.in the disguise of social issues,we have seen some stunts to hike the trp.its hightime now they stop fooling around n show us wat they had initially promised!i have never seen that spark to study further in anandi's eyes after the 1st leap.its she who needs an intellectual mentor to open her eyes n make her realize that she can carry on wid samaj seva any time in her life.but now is the time she does her own seva and become something.she should not make a parasite out of herself.that would be very disappointing.

That seems a very different yet not completely incorrect way of looking at the serial and its story line.

Nice post-The only social message I am getting out of BV is that the good will be trampled and the selfish will get what they want.

A small correction. Suguna was married at 8 or 9. But her father did not send her to her husband's house coz he was afraid that she would get pregnant early and lose her baby like basanth's first wife. But then she went and did just that.

@vsumeetha -- hi -- no she was not married. there were several clashes between bhairon and dadisa on this account. several. It was not an anandi type of situation at all where they were married at 8 and gilr goes home until she attains puberty. In addition, bhairon wanted her to have an education -- but she was adamant that she was in love with pratap and wanted to get married to him.
So that was that.

Another one Phooli ... anandi's best frd , a child widow , once saved from a unwanted 2nd child marriage by kid anandi and bhairon, a well educated person , completed graduation ...easily accepted "natha pratha" in the name of "majboori".

Because according to her argument her father was ill, couldn't earn money, and she couldn't do a job coz if she would do that then village ppl would make her parents life hell by taunting them about her job. The argument of her father was who wanted to marry a highly educated widow and accused bhairon for stopping her 2nd child marriage.

So here education is ...ve point in her life!

An adult, intelligent, well educated girl couldn't fight in the name of "majboori".

So what the point to show phooli educated and to save her from that 2nd child marriage?

The worst thing ever in BV!

but sugna was already married to pratap in childhood but her "gauna" didnt happen as bhairon had delayed to prevent the teen pregnency as basant's 1st wife died coz of that!
pratap was sugna's 1st husband according to society!
the arguments between ds and bhairon was for sugna's "gauna" not for her marriage!

yes, thank you, phooli too slipped my mind.
I have a different recollection of suguna's wedding ... because at one time when I heard madansingh discuss it with his wife and his elder brother ... he said that no wedding had taken place at all... ... not that she was a married woman who was a virgin because her gauna had not taken place
I dont think it was a wedding -- i think it was an engagement or an understanding.
Bhairon and dadisa also had fights about suguna's education ... but suguna didnt want to get educated.

welcome tinoo😊
the convo between shyam's father and his elder brother was like that
her elder brother was so angry how could he allowed shyam to get married to a widow.
then MS replied gauna didnt happen coz her hubby died at day of gauna so she was pure . she had no relationship with her hubby.
u can read updates...that was clearly shown in intial episode of Bv that sugna - pratap were married ritually like JA!
and in the vid and WU gallery...one of a post of additi is there where it was clearly written that pratap was sugna's hubby...!
it was written in the last post ...posted by additi!
and I think the convo between shyam's tausa and shyam's father about sugna's gauna was on 30th june 2009!

Thanks for correcting me Khusi! I appreciate it.
But suguna's marital status still doesnt detract from my main point that it is the story of a woman who wanted to be a beendhni 😆😆
