Vikrant Massey

Hmmm, which means he must smell good! One of the stylish actors on TV, Vikrant Massey who has his hands full with two daily shows, Balika Vadhu and Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo, shares his fashion secrets with TellyChakkar.

Fashion is: Comfort

Who chooses your clothes? I do and I usually shop twice a month.

Do you wear accessories? I do wear a lot of watches as I am fond of them. I have my ear pierced and I wear a diamond stud in it.

Do you follow any brands? I do not believe in brands. I can buy clothes from anywhere be it Linking road or Zara. It just depends on comfort.

Favourite shopping destination: Dubai, I have been there a couple of times and in Mumbai, I can buy anything from anywhere.

Most expensive buy: I bought this three- piece suit for my cousin's wedding and it was very expensive. I have gone overboard with my watches, bought very expensive ones like this particular one cost me three and a half lakh rupees.

Clothes you are comfortable in: Jeans and kurta.

Favourite designer: I do not have a specific designer, Fabindia works for me completely.

Must-have in your wallet: ID proof, it could be my pan card or even my license.

Favourite perfumes: Now you are talking! For everyday use, I like Issey Miyake and Kouros is a favourite. I am a complete fragrance freak.

Colour that fills your wardrobe: White fills up 60 per cent of my wardrobe.

I had to stay in a Gurudwara for five days!

Shashank Vyas

A page from the personal diary of Shashank Vyas

Whatever I have read from books or even out of experience I feel at least once in our lifetime we should go for a big risk. For I feel bigger the risk, bigger the achievement.

I come from a middle-class family and so things weren't easy for me. I remember I was trying for my MBA and my sister was getting married at the same time. I wasn't getting my admission and like any other middle class family I had very little time and had to make the best out of it.

Everyone expected me to take up a job but, I knew I wouldn't be happy with it. So, I knew I had to do things fast. I was in a dicey situation but I took the risk.

I came to Mumbai and knew only one friend who had promised to help me. So when I reached here, the first thing I did was tried calling him up but his phone was not reachable. I did not know where to go as I had no one here. I had to then stay in a Gurudwara for five days after which I found some place to stay.

I had little money with me and I didn't want to trouble my family. So I had to start looking out for work. I mailed a few pictures of mine to coordinators and that is how I got my first print advertisement. The thing that helped me survive in Mumbai was that I kept getting some or the other work from time to time which helped me and kept me motivated. These little things were my building blocks. I just did not get things easily for there was this 'not fit' period that I had to go through when everyone told me I was too tall or I was too thin.

I use to get frustrated at times and the only place where I could take out my frustration was Juhu beach. As I had no one here to talk to I would go and give vent to it in front of the sea. But, the next day I would be back at the auditions!

Vikrant works 20 hours a day

Vikrant Massey

Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) has become strict with the shoot timings for actors and production units but Vikrant Massey has been putting in more hours than required. The Association recently put forward a rule saying the production houses and actors are not to work for more than 12 hours a day but Vikrant works for 20.

At present, he is doing two shows, Balika Vadhu and Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo, which leaves him with no time at all.

"Association rules have definitely changed and one is not permitted to work for more than 12 hours a day but I have got the permission. I had submitted a notice to the board and they sanctioned it. So, now I am shooting nine hours for Balika Vadhu and nine for Baba…There are days when I work for only eight to nine hours, that's when I am shooting just one show," says Vikrant.

When asked how he manages to shoot for so many hours he says, "I am an insomniac and three hours of sleep works for me. But, I am working on changing my habit." So, how true is the buzz that he may be quitting Balika Vadhu? He says, "No comments."

Looks like Vikrant follows the 'work hard today so you can sleep well tomorrow' mantra.

Shyam's tausa who is responsible for Varun's accident in Balika Vadhu will get exposed in front of everyone soon. Shyam and his family will be shattered to hear this truth.

Our source says, "Shyam and Sugna are going to visit Vaishno Devi as per baba's instructions so that Varun's health improves. Sugna is preparing for their visit and explaining it to Varun about where they are heading for. It's then that Varun suddenly remembers he was pushed by someone from the terrace on the day of the accident. He gets flashes of the accident and realizes it is Tausa who pushed him from the terrace. He narrates all this to Sugna; she is shocked. She rushes to Shyam and tells him everything. Initially, he won't believe it but later Varun will insist it's true. Sunga reveals this secret of tausa to everyone in the house. Shyam and his father are furious and Shyam's father asks his brother about his inhuman behaviour. He then asks him to to leave the house."

A source adds, "Meanwhile Jagdish will get admission in a medical college in Mumbai. Anandi is nervous and happy for Jagdish. He will start preparing to go to Mumbai. There he is likely to meet a new girl, we are yet to finalise her. She will have an interesting track with Jagdish. In a few days we will select a fresh face to play this role."

Bollywood stars eye serials after reality overdose

NEW DELHI: After making their presence felt on reality shows, Bollywood stars are now increasingly appearing in cameos on television serials to promote their upcoming films.

Stars like Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham , Salman Khan, Mallika Sherawat and Neetu Kapoor are increasingly making a beeline for serials.

This arrangement benefits both big and small screen stars, experts say.

"Television is the best way to connect with the audience," Aatish Kapadia, writer-director of "Khichdi-The Movie", told IANS on phone from Mumbai. Episodes featuring stars tend to have higher viewership, and the practice adds novelty to the show, he added.

The cast of Kapadia's movie, including Supriya Pathak , Anang Desai, Rajeev Mehta, J.D. Mathejia and Nimisha Vakharia, appeared on a Ganesh Chaturthi special episode of Sab TV's popular show "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma".

On many occasions, the scripts of TV serials are tweaked to accommodate film stars.

"A lot depends upon the content of the show and the film. The actors can be weaved into the script in such a way that viewers can connect with them," added Kapadia.

Abhishek Bachchan made an appearance on Colors' show "Balika Vadhu" prior to the release of his box office dud "Drona", while actors Sharman Joshi and Vatsal Seth had appeared on a Valentine's Day special of "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma", keeping in mind their romantic comedy "Toh Baat Pakki".

Actor Ajay Devgn too made a guest appearance on the show to promote his film "All The Best", and will feature in an upcoming episode of "Crime Patrol" to promote "Aakrosh", a film about honour killings.

Bollywood veterans Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor too starred in "Taarak Mehta..." to promote their recent release "Do Dooni Chaar".

"The small screen has a huge and dedicated audience. Somehow, the characters of our film could be integrated into the show as both are aimed at family audiences," the film's director Habib Faisal told IANS.

"The characters of the show ("Taarak Mehta...") are popular as well, and both Rishiji and Neetuji really enjoyed shooting for the show," he added.

Other stars bitten by the 'serial' bug include John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai.

While Akshay had a cameo appearance on Star Plus' "Sasural Genda Phool" for his movie "Khatta Meetha", Salman Khan was seen promoting "Dabangg" on "Laagi Tujhse Lagan", aired on Colors.

Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai made a guest appearance on Sony's long-running detective show "CID" for "Once Upon A Time in Mumbai", and Emraan recently featured on Sab TV's "Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo" to promote his film "Crook".

John is set to feature on two Sab TV shows "FIR" and "Taarak Mehta...", where he will be seen promoting Abbas Tyrewala's "Jhootha Hi Sahi".

Mallika Sherawat too will make an appearance on Colors' show "Naa Aana Iss Des Ladoo" to promote her much-awaited film "Hisss", in which she plays a snake woman.

But do these ways of film promotion work?

Though actors have been appearing on music and dance reality shows, television serials are still untested waters.

Industry watchers feel the trend has lost its novelty factor, and does not have a major impact on the audience.

Anjum Farookhi enters Jagya and Anandi's life..

COLORS' Balika Vadhu will see a new twist with the entry of a 'Woh' in Jagya's life..

Anjum Farookhi who was last seen in Zee TV's Aapki Antara is back on screen with a different look in COLORS' Balika Vadhu. As per the new promo, there is a new girl entering Jagya's (Shashank Vyas) life, and Anjum will be playing the character. She will eventually be a reason for concern in Jagya and Anandi's (Pratyusha Banerjee) marital life.

When contacted, Anjum confirmed the news saying, "Yes I am playing the character of Gauri. She is very lively and strong minded; she meets Jagya in a bus as shown in the promo. She is doing her medicine just like Jagya, and they both meet in the college. There will be a love angle that will develop. I was getting various offers, but Balika Vadhu is a strong show. Above all, this is not a regular character and offers lots of challenges".

According to our source, "As we know, Jagya is upset as Anandi is not welcome for a change. This eventually paves a way for Jagya getting attracted towards Gauri. However, there is a twist in Gauri's character which will be eventually disclosed".

Anjum was earlier to do Vrat Khatayein on Sony which is apparently shelved now. "Yes I was going to do that show, but it was getting delayed for some reason. Now I am free to take up new roles".

Anjum has started shooting and her entry sequence will air soon.

Anjum Farooki is Jagiya's woh
Buzz up!

Love stories on television can't have a smooth run for long and have to hit an obstacle.

Anandi and Jagdish of Balika Vadhu too will hit the rocky patch in their relationship after Jagiya will apparently fall in love with a girl outside the wed-lock. The girl who will enter in Jagiya's life named Gauri will be essayed by Aapki Antara girl, Anjum Farooki. Gauri is a simple and sweet girl who hails from a small town. She is well educated and is now taking admission in the same medical college as Jagdish. The two will eventually fall in love thereby creating havoc in Anandi's life.

Informs our source from the show, "Gauri who is a sweet and simple girl will bump into Jagdish on her way to medical college. Both are set to pursue medicine. Gauri is different from Anandi as she is educated and updated. Gauri and Jagdish will fall in love. Gauri's character is expected ti turn grey eventually."

When contacted, Farooki refused to comment. Her track will unfold from tonight's episode on Balika Vadhu, Monday to Thursday, 8:00 pm on COLORS.
