Vikrant and Priya

When it comes to TV industry, nothing is confirmed till an episode is approved for telecast. Scripts are often tweaked in accordance with the ratings.

'Balika Vadhu', Colors premier, will soon take a generation leap that will see the entry of a new Anandi and Jagdish. Now before this takes place, the show was focusing on other characters and their stories. Some new characters were introduced too who were meant have liaison with an old character.

We're referring to the track surrounding Shyam, Sugna, and Suman. Earlier, it was buzzed that Shyam (Vikrant Massey) will break his marriage to Sugna (Vibha Anand) after the girl suffered a miscarriage. Shyam was shown to be meeting a new girl, played by Priya Ahuja. Suman was said to be the new girl in Shyam's life. While we did see Shyam leaving Sugna, the proposed love track between Suman and Shyam is not happening anymore after the channel allegedly preponed the leap.

A little birdie informs, "Suman and Shyam were to suppose to have some relationship between them. However, that track is no longer happening, as Shyam will now reunite with Sugna. Gudiya's re-entry has also caught all by surprise. Besides, we're hearing that the leap has been preponed. That new characters who'd stepped in the show recently might not return again.

Vibha Anand and Priya Ahuja claimed ignorance to such story. The leap is expected from July 21.

The ratings of 'Balika Vadhu' had dipped alarmingly a fortnight ago. Perhaps, this dip must have played its part in bringing the leap forward.

Khajaan Singh and Anandi

The much awaited leap in 'Balika Vadhu' is round the corner with the actors scheduled to leave for Rajasthan in a couple of days. Prior to this, the team is winding up its pre-leap schedule. There's a sense of anxiety among viewers who are wondering what all will transpire before and after the leap. Before that, the big question is who will play the new Anandi and Jagdish?

While Jamshedpur's Pratyusha Banerjee is said to be the new Anandi, no name has emerged for the new Jagdish. Most actors claim to have no idea about the identify of the new protagonist.

"Honestly, I have no idea about the new Anandi or Jagdish. From what I've heard, the guy looks fairly similar to Avinash Mukherjee", said an actor.

Meanwhile, certain drama will unfold before the leap.

A source says, "Anandi will be returning to her house. As per traditions, once a bride turns 13, she's supposed to return to her maayka, and comeback to her in-law's place after five years. That's how the new girl will be shown".

Adding further, the source says, "Anandi will suffer a setback, when her father Khajaan Singh (Chetanya Adib) will be sent to jail for five years on charges of corruption. This sequence is currently being shot, before the unit heads to Rajasthan in a couple of days. Bhairav Singh (Anup Soni) will look after the financial needs of Anandi and her mother".

It seems Avika Gor won't be leaving without shedding her customary (and monotonous) tears.

Anandi taught Avika Gor
Buzz up!

Child actor Avika Gor is set to leave popular TV serial Balika Vadhu as the show is taking a five years leap. In mid-July, the child bride in Balika Vadhu on Colors channel will be five years older.

There is buzz that Pratyusha, who has never been seen on screen before, will replace Avika. Balika Vadhu became the most popular show as soon as it was launched on Colors in 2008. It started by depicting child bride Anandi, who is married off to an equally young boy Jagdish. The girl is thus unable to have a joyful childhood and is bound by her in-laws.

What next after Balika Vadhu, films or TV shows?

"I am now ready to explore new characters and my fans will see me in a different avatar very soon."

What kind of roles are you looking forward in films?

"As far as films are concerned, I am not focused on a particular kind of a film or a director. As long as my role is meaningful and suits me as well. Rest of the decision is taken by my father as I am too young to take any big decisions."

Aren't you feeling sad that you won't be playing Anandi anymore?

"Yes,everything about being Anandi was great. I am not very different from Anandi as a person. Anandi loves her parents a lot, talks a lot, has lot of fun and likes to study…in short she is very similar to the real Avika. I will definitely miss the fun which we used to do while shooting. We are like a big family. My father always tells me that whatever you do in life, learn from it and move on."

What you would miss about the show?

"It is hard for me to say one thing, which I will miss. Since it was a routine for the last two years to come everyday on the sets and I will miss that the most. All the fun, pranks, talks and everything…"

What have you learnt from this show?

"Past experiences always come handy.Good or bad,it teaches you a lesson.Playing Anandi has taught me immensely in acting, this show was my first chapter in making me an good performer."

Don't forget to watch Anandi in
Balika Vadhu every Monday to Friday at 8 pm only on Colors.

'I am not very different from Anandi'
Child actor Avika Gor chats to After Hrs about being replaced in her television show Balika Vadhu due to a time leap and her wanting to chart new territories...
Child actor Avika Gor
Where do you move forward from here? Movies or TV shows?

I am now ready to explore new characters and you will see me in a new role very soon.

What kind of roles are you looking to take up if you opt for films?

As long as films are concerned, I am not focused on a particular kind of film or a director. As long as my role is meaningful and if it is apt for me, I shall take it up. Rest of the decisions are being taken care by my father. I am too young to take big decisions.

Aren't you feeling sad that you won't be playing Anandi anymore?

Yes, everything about being Anandi was great. I am not very different from Anandi as a person. Anandi loves her parents a lot, talks a lot, has a lot of fun and likes to study…in short, she is very similar to the real Avika. Viewers have always given their love and affection to me. They even call me Anandi and not Avika. I will definitely miss the fun we used to have on the sets.

Everyday I used to look forward to going for the shoot. We are like one big family. My father always tells me that whatever you do in life, learn from it and move on…do not get sad about anything as everything happens for the best. While things will change in my life, I will continue to have fond memories of Balika Vadhu always with me. Whenever I miss anyone, I will come and visit them on the sets. I have everyone's phone numbers and will keep calling them.

One thing you will miss about the show?

It is hard for me to mention one thing I will miss. Since it was a routine for the last two years to come everyday on sets, that is something I will miss most. All the fun, pranks, talks, everything. There was never a dull moment here, from going through the scripts to rehearsing dialogues. It was all an amazing experience that I will treasure all my life!

As an actor how are you looking to better yourself?

Past experiences always come handy. Good or bad, it teaches you a lesson. Playing Anandi for Balika Vadhu has taught me immensely as an actress. The show gave me the opportunity to work with a lot of senior actors like Surekha Sikri, Anoop Soni and Smita Bansal and also showcase a range of emotions.

Most expensive purchase!
Actors are known to be spendthrifts, considering the lifestyle they have to maintain. The watches, dresses and cars they sport becomes the target of purchase for their fans. It's an entirely different thing that half of us aren't able to purchase it. Actors talk about their most expensive purchase till date:

Smita Bansal: My most expensive purchase will be my flat in Juhu. I wouldn't want to divulge the money I had to shell out for this but this is my dream- pad and I love it. I actually never thought I would end up spending so much for a house.

Meet the new Anandi and Jagya
Buzz up!

COLORS' Balika Vadhu had the entire media trying in desperation to find out the faces who will join the show as grown up Anandi and Jagya post the leap. We hereby reveal the leading couple of the show.

The coveted role of Anandi will be played by Pratyusha Banerjee and Jagiya will be essayed by rookie actor Shashank Vyas.

Informs our source, "Both Pratyusha and Shashank have started shooting for the show in Jodhpur. While Pratyusha has been chosen by the viewers of the show themselves, the production house has zeroed down on Shashank to play Jagya. Shashank has done print advertisements for Idea, Tata Indicom and has learned acting from Anupam Kher's acting academy. Where Pratyusha will be introduced in tonight's episode, Shashank's entry will be aired sometime in next week. It is buzzed that the other two girls will too be a part of the show as Phooli and Bhanvri's daughter Guni."

When contacted, Shashank refused to divulge anything. We also sent a text message to producer Sunjoy Wadhva but he didn't revert.

Currently, the child actors Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee essay the role of Anandi and Jagdish respectively on the show.

As expected, Pratyusha Banerjee was officially unveiled as the new Anandi. Thus the suspense factor had long gone out of the window. All were simply interested in seeing what show Colors put up at the press conference. It turned out to be quite a spectacle. There was no shortage of drama as Colors turned back the clock and unveiled Pratyusha in the same manner as they did for Avika in 2008.

It was on a rainy day of July 21, 2008, that Colors was launched. All eyes were then focused on two shows – 'Fear Factor' and 'Sajid Superstars'. When the time came, one saw four men bring a palanquin (palkhi) to the stage. As the curtain lifted, we saw a little bride who went by the name of Anandi. She would go on to become the most loved bahu surpassing even the Tulsis and Parvatis.

Two years and two days later, it's poured again as Colors ushered in a new Anandi. And this time there was no distraction ('Fear Factor'). It was 'Balika Vadhu' all the way. There this palanquin being lifted to the stage. We expected Pratyusha to be in it, but it was Avika who stepped out. She remembered her journey before disappearing in mist of haze. Few seconds later, it was the 18-year-old Anandi who was standing before the mirror. As she turned, one saw the innocent face of Pratyusha. Cleary, five years passed in these five seconds.

Anandi was excitemented to have returned to her sasural and above all to her husband Jagya. She didn't even see a picture of him in these five years. Bhairav and Sumitra, escorted their daughter-in-law to the palkhi, and headed towards home.
