I think the problem was that there were far too many villains in BP. The good guys were self-righteous and preachy, and the bad guys were pretty much every even remotely strong character.
'Puneet' was the only male character besides DV that was etched with strength and wit. Grey-shaded, in a romantic pairing, he would have made a tremendous secondary pairing. In fact, the 'Puneet-Kajri' chemistry would be fantastic, if the male charcater was grey-shaded to start with rather than so unrelievedly vicious.
Also, the guy who played 'Dipesh' seriously needs a good-guy role. The introduction as a good-guy and the soon-after exposure of him as a bad guy has been done in 'Bandini' and then in BP. As a villain, he doesn't quite exude menace. He needs a good-guy role that stays good. I think he would do fine justice to it.
The 'Harshvardhan-Sunanda' pairing was a fine one. I can't understand the sense of getting such charismatic actors for a brief role. And their anti-DV roles ensured that there was no point to keeping them around once they and their family served their purpose in getting Amoli to marry DV in his 'Ranveer' persona.
